Aldo: He should get an hour on Thursday night

|

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes that Andy Carroll could be crucial to Liverpool’s Europa League campaign this season. Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, he said:

“Andy Carroll should get about an hour on Thursday night because we need his power. We’ve lacked that in Europe because we’ve played David Ngog and with Suarez cup-tied, Carroll should hopefully be starting in Braga. Braga are going to be positive and if we don’t get a decent result then we leave ourselves open. We have to go for it – this means an awful lot to Kenny. Braga will want to score goals and are a progressive side, much different to Sparta Prague. I’ve got friends out in Portugal so have been able to see Braga on a few occasions and they are certain to attack.”

Aldridge also compared Luis Suarez to Kevin Keegan:

“I am about to pay Luis Suarez a major compliment – but after Sunday’s performance he deserves it. The way the South American plays the game reminds me of the first time I saw Kevin Keegan in a Red shirt during the 1970s. Suarez is a breath of fresh air and he is just so infectious as he proved magnificently against Manchester United. He reminds me of Keegan with his balance and pace but also has elements of Kenny Dalglish in the way he backs into defenders using his backside. To think a player can show elements of those two legends of our club is incredibly exciting.”

This week it is Liverpool midfielder Albert Aquilani’s former girlfriend Pamela Camassa!

yup indeed i agree with 100% with our great John Aldridge..i think Carroll is ready to start and getting fitter and fitter with more and more play time..a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-2 that would be the question i think Kenny will try to answer.i would vote for the 4-2-3-1 cauz in 4-4-2 you cant play both Gerrard and Meireles and if you do,one of them will be either left or right which is bad.so i would stick with the 4-2-3-1 and i would say this:
    Reina
    Carragher Skrtel Agger Johnson
    Gerrard Lucas
    Kuyt Meireles Maxi
    Carroll
should Carroll not be ready to start(which i doubt),put Kuyt as a striker with Maxi and Joe Cole as wingers..everyone is waiting for summer to come and the rebuilding to start!!wingers, left back, defensive midfielder, cover for attack,..everything..i would love Bojan,Coentrao,M’Vila,Dzsudzsak at Liverpool!!YNWA

It would be a mistake to play Carroll on Thursday night, yes he needs match practice but this is a mickeymouse competition and Kelly and Agger were injured against Sparta in the last round. The premiership is srill the priority and the aim should be to win the last 9 games and create momentum for next season.

I’ve disagreed A LOT with Aldridge this season (funny how these experts just change their opinions with the wind – we’d still be battling relegation with Hodgson if they’d had their way!) and tbh I disagree with his comparison of Suarez also.

If I had to compare him to any LFC legend, it would be Robbie Fowler; in that he is a player with some neat flicks and link up play around the pitch at times, but just really comes alive with the ball in the box and always aims his shots to the corners. He is probably a little more mobile & versatile than Fowler was though…
