Are Liverpool Princes Or Paupers? We will find out very soon

|

Raising money this year is, as we all know, going to be difficult for most not only in the UK but the world. Unless you’re a City banker or Gideon Osborne you may find potential income slipping through your fingers. This summer will be a good test of Liverpool’s financial clout, will we be Princes or Paupers?

The money raised from sales this year has allowed us to manoeuvre freely, splashing out like a desperado sugar daddy on two young strikers. But now, as new Director of Football Damien Comolli plots future transfers with Kenny Dalglish, the question will be asked by fans, ‘where will the money come from’? Financially, Liverpool have traditionally had wiggle room. The club, for the last few years has always wielded assets to sell on for profit.

Despite misinformation to the contrary, under Hicks and Gillett, Rafael Benitez did a good job in turning over enough profits in sales to keep the squad fresh enough to compete. This, despite the club being strangled from behind in a giant business-like metaphor of Hitchcock’s Rope. Players like Torres, Alonso and Crouch have been used as lucrative money spinners. Often resulting in two or three new squad members being recruited for cheaper prices, in the hope we unearth a gem.

For a team that doesn’t have any money, yet still is demanded by some to win everything, this is part of a standard squad evolution that must take place if the team is to carry on going forward. Eventually things reached a standstill and something had to give, after the manager left, followed by the owners and finally the interfering managing director, Liverpool were looking at new horizons.

to the writer of the articale, i dont quiet get it ? it sorta sounds like your saying were still skint, wee have a good turnover and very little debt after costs of wages etc there should be plenty for a budget then add to that player sales, that alone should be a good summer transfer budget and if the owners want to chuck some cash at that aswell then great. i think wee will have a good summer window – the key to our future is keeping the debt down because we have a good turnover and should always have plenty to spare to compete

Mr Henry has got to spend on quality this summer.I have an extremely good feeling that our owners will take us in the direction we crave & take us to where we belong “at the top”.Yes if any of you Mancs & Chavs are spying LIVERPOOL FC have the best supporters and belong at the top. The tables are turning, the future looks good just hope it all comes true. YNWA.

The owners were try to keep winter signings about 30 mill if you do the math before the nando sale. Add that to whatever profits made and sales of dead wood we could have 45 mill or more to buy with without selling pepe. And the owners could open wallets even further so I cant really agree with this article.

My guess is that there will be some marquee signings like Young, Mertesacker, Coentrao but in addition to that FSG will try to get cheap deals for quality players: Adam and Marveaux for example.

We only need 4 or 5 players to get us back to the top. The fundament is there:

    Reina
    Johnson [NEW] Agger [NEW]
    Gerrard [NEW]
    [NEW] Suarez [NEW]
    Carroll

It will give us a strong bench with good back up defender, midfielders and strikers:

    Carragher
    Skrtl
    Aurelio
    Lucas
    Kuyt
    Meireles
    Cole
    Maxi
    Ngog

To buy: Cahill, Adam, Enrique, Young and Hazard. Of course it is all wishful thinking but god I am looking forwarth to the summer!!

Ok hate to be a critic but this article is awful. No taking facts into account at all. The reason there was a messy ownership battle was because Liverpool (as referred to recently) are the 3rd most successfull team when it comes to merchandising and as a club make a significant amount of money. With the £30-£40 million debt payments now gone we have a fair old wack to spend on players to strenghen. That is a conservative view point without taking into account the money the new owners were suppose to have put to one side as part of their plan when they bought the club. Stop being so negative unless you have evidence to back it up!

  • Andy says:

Where will the money come from? Well how about us not having to pay £30 million a year in debt interest, it between £2 mill and £3 mill now so ther’s £25million before you blink, throw in the dross Jova, Cole, Poulsen, Konchesky and you’re looking at around another £10 million add in the record shirt sponsorship deal worth £20 million a year and there’s £55 million which could be spent without FSG. Is it enough? Probably not but it’ll put us back in the game if the owners throw in £10 million in investment then if we’re clever we could get 5 or 6 top players in.

  • TG says:

J W Henry has recently approved a $300m player investment in the Red Sox and stated it has no bearing on LFC at all. We are not paying any interst on debts as has been said, we generate good profits and always have. FSG are a group of 17 major investors, one is Thomas R Di Benedetto who has just bought AS Roma. We have money but will not spend it un-wisley!!!!

  • anakjin says:

why must get from spaniard??? many player from that country and spaniard are imported player from another country…

  • daboy says:

Liverpool are not paupers but have no oil baron as a sugar daddy neither.
The players they buy will be young and quality with great resale value if the need arises.
I would wait until the next window closed before making statements though but i would guarantee the squad will be younger and better.

  • Jay Wright says:

NESV got LFC at a bargain price (relatively) and that saving should easily enable them to throw some of the leftover funds at the club which would make a significant difference to the playing staff –

Getting rid of the wage drainers such as Maxi, Kuyt, Jovanovich, Poulsen, Cole, Skrtel, Aurelio, Konchesky, Degen etc – who all command pretty hefty wage packets but deliver little more than you’d expect from a cheap reserve – would also make a significant difference to the finances at the club, and help to offset the spend that is necessary for us to have an elite team again
