Would this exciting Spanish Starlet be a good addition for us?

Last week, Real Madrid starlet Sergio Canales revealed that he had the option of moving to England in January. He told Marca:

“During January I had options to move to England, but I want to repay Mourinho and the club’s trust in me. I don’t regret moving to Real Madrid and I knew that this first year would be tough. It’s not great when I’m not in the squad but I want to show what I can do on the pitch.”

It was widely reported that Liverpool were the primary English club interested in Canales’s signature, so who exactly is he?

He was snapped up by his hometown club Racing Santander at the age of just 11 after impressing for local side C.D Augistinos as a creative midfielder. Nicknamed “Peter Pan” because of his youthful looks, they had to change the rules of a local football tournament so he could be awarded the MVP at aged 12 because of his outstanding displays.

His performances weren’t going unnoticed and he was watched by Spanish national youth team scouts from a young age. He made his way through the Spanish youth ranks from the U16s to the U19s, impressing at all levels. He made a massive impact at the 2007 Under-17 European Championship, helping Spain to win the tournament, and he was also named player of the tournament at the Copa Atlantico U18s.
