Liverpool legend Alan Kennedy believes that Kenny Dalglish is the only man for the Reds’ manager’s job in the long term. He told the Sunday Mirror:
“The club doesn’t just need a top manager, they need a top manager who is capable of healing the wounds and divisions caused by the ownership of Tom Hicks and George Gillett. For me, Kenny is the only manager capable of doing that because the fans trust him. Liverpool need to rebuild – that is going to take time and money. Anyone who thinks differently is kidding themselves. It’s clear he needs a left-back, centre-half and maybe a couple of wide players who can give Carroll and Suarez the right kind of service.”
Kennedy also believes it is imperative that Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina stays at the club:
“It has been suggested to me that Pepe Reina is a unsettled because of the direction the club has been heading in over the last couple of years. But I’d be amazed if Kenny thought it would be a good idea to cash in on him like he did with Torres because, for me, Pepe is irreplaceable. After spending the last five or six years at Liverpool, his talent and experience make him the best goalkeeper in the world. He may be feeling a bit disillusioned about things at the moment, but I think he is crucial to Liverpool being a successful club in the next few years.”
