Rumour Mill: Comolli advocating French defender bid?

|

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Liverpool Director of Football Damien Comolli wants the Reds to go for Roma’s French international defender Philippe Mexes. The 28 year old is out of contract at the end of the season and AC Milan are among a list of admirers chasing his signature. Mexes is 29 next Wednesday, but Comolli believes he could strengthen Liverpool’s backline and feels he could beat off competition for his signing with an attractive financial package. According to the Mirror, however, although manager Kenny Dalglish is keen on Mexes, he feels Bolton’s Gary Cahill would be the better signing.

It’s too late for Mexes let’s move on now and get the younger but quality defenders. He didn’t want to come to Liverpool when we tried to get him 2/3 years ago. Let him stay in Italy…

commoli u are mad.u simply want mexes becoz he is frnch.u forget that he is 29 yrs old.lets get cahill,if we cant lets get subotic who is much younger than even cahill.aah, mexes, thats madness.

If Mexes is available on a free transfer then I wouldn’t mind him coming at all. In fact, getting him on a free would be a fantastic signing. It would be a much better option than to spend like 15 mil on someone like Cahill or Subotic.

Mexes is a poor player and not physically tough enough for the Premiership. The club need to stop deluding themselves that Bosman signings work at Liverpool for example Cole and Jovanovic (around 170 grand a week down the drain). Liverpool should swap Skrtel for Simon Kjaer to play alongside Agger. Gary Cahill is extremely overrated, he has very little pace, he is poor defending setpieces and he is not an aggressive commanding centreback. Where was he when Berbatov scored in the last minute or so against Bolton?

This proves beyond all doubt you have absolutely no idea what you are tlaking about. Cahill is probably the second best defender in the air in the league, and has a LOT of pace. I am astounded by your evaluation of him. Unbelievable what some people will say without having a clue what they are talking about.
