Spearing: The TWO people who showed faith in me

|

Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has credited the help of manager Kenny Dalglish and encouragement from Steven Gerrard for his improvement on the pitch:

“The new manager has given me a lot of confidence. He started me in the derby at Anfield in one of his first games and he has shown he has a lot of belief in me. He knows the type of player I am, and what I can do. Any player that has the confidence of the manager gets a massive confidence boost. It has just made me want more and with the manager’s belief, I can go on and do better things. I have been in and around the first team for a few years now, but been in and out. I’m regularly involved now.”

He also said of Gerrard:

“Stevie texted me after the game, to say I’d done well,” he said. “He always speaks to me and gives me encouragement and advice, so to receive something like that from someone who has done so much for this club is a massive boost. That proved I can play at that level and as I said the manager has given me a lot of confidence. I’ve got to pay that back now and keep it going.”

  • Andy says:

I’m a little young to have seen Sammy Lee play regularly for us but there is something about Spearing that reminds me of him. Whether that is good enough in today’s multinational EPL remains open to debate, although I hope he can make a mark with us.

  • Kenny says:

Spearing is too small and lacks sufficient pace to hack it in Liverpool’s midfield. If liverpool can get 3 to 5 million in the summer then they should sell him. Sammy Lee as a player was extremely average, Bob Paisley admitted he made a mistake in letting Jimmy Case leave as Lee was nowhere near the calibre of Case.
