Would this £10M Argentine be an exciting prospect for us?

|

Argentine international Fernando Gago could be the latest player to join Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool revolution this summer. Speaking to Calciomercato.it, the player’s agent Zoran Vekic said:

“As for Gago, I can say that at the moment it is just speculation. I guess there is some interest. To be more precise, we must still wait for the next few weeks, when we will know his situation better.”

The 24-year-old Real Madrid midfielder, who has appeared 121 times for Los Blancos, started his career with Argentine titans Boca Juniors. He made his debut for the club in December 2004, featuring in the side’s 1-0 victory over Quilmes. He established himself as a key player for the club during the course of the next season, and featured prominently in their hugely successful 2005/06 season, which saw Los Xeneizes land five major titles.

Gago moved to the Bernabeu in December 2006 for a fee of €20.4 million, and was followed by his compatriot Gonzalo Higuain. He instantly adapted to La Liga, and appeared 17 times for Real Madrid during their 2006-07 title-winning season. His importance to the side grew in 2007/08, and Gago racked up 42 appearances as Real Madrid stormed to a second successive title.

El Pintita featured in Argentina’s 2005 FIFA World Cup Championship-winning under-20 side, and he has received full international recognition. He made his international debut in 2007 and has been capped 30 times.

A combination of injuries and tough competition for places has meant that Gago’s influence at the Bernabeu has diminished over the course of the last two seasons.

The combative anchorman, who has drawn comparisons with club legend Fernando Redondo, came close to joining Manchester City in January 2010. The summer arrival of German international Sami Khedira has pushed Gago further down the Bernabeu pecking order, with Mourinho preferring to partner the former Stuttgart man with Xabi Alonso.

Rumours suggest that Gago will be available for around £10m this summer. With Liverpool sorely lacking midfield steel since the departure of fellow Argentine Javier Mascherano, a move for Fernando Gago could prove to be an excellent one for both club and player this summer.

why would we pay this for GAGO when we could get ever BANEGA for a bit more, gago has done what? his injury record is a joke? and for me banega runs a better game and can do all and more that cgago can not do. NO THANKS, NO MORE RUBBISH AT THE CLUB PLEASE, I DO NOT WANT REAL MADRID SECOND CHOICE EITHER????

i agree. If we are to get this right this time, we cant afford any more punts on players like gago. We need first team players and quality ones who arent injury prone. Plus squad depth

This is Liverpool,a club with rich history, why on earth should we look for Real Madrid second choice player like Gago,Don’t we know that Charlie Adams is a player who is whole heartedly willing, talented, workaholic and ready to play for us,Let us not waste money on players like Gago but instead Kenny acquire Combative footballers like Charlie Adams and Ashley Young who are already in Premiership and are well aware of most clubs game styles.

i’m not sure you know what a combative midfielder means…
adam is a deep lying playmaker and young is a winger..

Real madrid is like a football players graveyard!!

If the Gago price is good (cheap) for Liverpool then why not! Wesley Snyder comes to mind!!!

Nothing wrong with getting Gago if as expected we still get charlie Adam. Its encouraging to have a first teamer like charli but still have the likes of gago and aquilani (who is already lfc) coming in to change the game. It helps only to an extent having a solid first 11 but have a poor bench when we need to change. At present, the first is good though not the best but when they run out of ideas, we only have a depressing bench of subs who cant change a game. Quality first 11 and an exciting 7 subs will only make us better

    defence- coentrao and cissohko
    defence- sakho and hummel
    wingers – mata and sanchez
center mid – moussa sissoko and banega
thats what we need with about 13 players that are not fit for a lunch date, never mind playing for liverpool

If he valuation is reduced by half then we have one to take a substitute seat. Not a first team player though. Charlie is bit more realistic!
Firt-thing-first: we have to get rid of players who are paid for nothing, more rudely dead woods.
Heard abt the news that kenny was talking seriously about Beram Kayal. Wathced him play in youtube, good style- good in tackle and has great vision!

  • steve says:

No please..way better players to come like Moussa Sissoko,Yann M’Vila,Ever Banega,Lassana Diarra,Charlie Adam.also either Subotic or Hummels(THEY ARE BOTH AWESOME!!) and sorry to say this but i’d say he sell Agger..i know some will get mad on me saying that but i will justify that..i love Daniel Agger and whenever he plays i find him a complete center back..but he is TOO injury prone..if we bring a top class young center back like Hummels,Subotic,Gary Cahill,Shawcross..etc i’d say sell Agger..if he can stay injury free for the next seasons then i’d keep him but whenever he gets a hard tackle from a player,i get too worried cauz i know that he is injury prone..but King Kenny knows 1532532528398 things at least more than me and i trust him so he will decide..KING KENNY WE LOVE YOU!!! YNWA

  • stanley says:

why is everyone going on about him being real madrid second choice.. sneijder, robben and van der vaart were all benchwarmers for real and luk at them now.. so thats irrelevant…
having said that i wud prefer sissokho or m’vila..

  • daboy says:

If Gago comes Lucas goes they have a similar style.
