A Do or Die Match for the Reds Tonight?

Ok, so if you’d have told me at the beginning of the season that we’d have sold Torres and be chasing 5th place, I’d have said that if that was true I’d probably be in the foetal position crying while listening to the ever cheerful Nothing Compares 2 U and hugging my photos of Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler.

Little extreme perhaps, but Torres was a god to me a short while ago and I was hoping that this would be the season we’d push on and make a good challenge for the title. Particularly given how little transfer activity had gone on in the summer for both Manure and Chelsea. Although Bebe looks a steal now at 7 million. Ha ha!

But Que Sera Sera as Cilla Black reminded us and I actually end the season with hope, not sadness. Yes, we lost to WBA last weekend but look at the squad we have now, as well as the promise that our key areas will be improved before next season (I can’t see us starting the season without at least one new winger, can you?). Meireles has matured into the team loads, Carroll and Suarez are going to wreak havoc next year and we continually get linked with top class wingers. Good times ahead!

So we come to Monday night’s game, needing to beat them, given that we lost a whopping 3-0 at Eastland’s and needing the vital 3 points to keep 5th place hopes alive. Realistically, 6th is our best hope at the moment but don’t forget we have to play Tottenham and who knows what damage Real Madrid will inflict psychologically at the Lane. I still have slim hopes of finishing above them, but we need results to go our way.
