“I have asked them to listen to any offers”

|

Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero has announced he wants to leave the Spanish club. He said in a statement:

“I said long ago that when I wanted to go, I would say so publicly. And the time has come. So I keep to my word and here I am. I find it hard to leave Atletico. It hurts and saddens me. I’ve thought long and hard and I am convinced that I must be true to myself. I do not think I put a ceiling on the ability to keep learning, to keep growing. After five intense years, this stage for me personally is over and I have to give way to a new one. I’m about to turn 23 and I have everything before me. Suffice it to say that this is not an economic issue but strictly a sporting one. So I want to clearly express my appreciation to the club for the efforts they have made for giving me a salary that equates with the largest clubs in the world. I want to say also that this decision has been maturing for some time. The issue was discussed and agreed with Atletico last year when I was renewing my contract. I wanted to sign as a way to give back to the club for all the support they have given me. Had I not done so, they might not have received any more for my transfer. I received then a promise that the club would not stand in my way if I wanted to leave this summer. Therefore, in line with that commitment and my decision, I have asked them to listen to any offers they receive for me from different clubs.”

Aguero has been linked with a move to either Manchester City or Liverpool, and he has a buyout clause of €45m.

This week it is former LFC WAG Gisela Molinero!

Carroll up front with Suarez & Aguero just behind!!!!! What a line up!

  • nigel says:

if carroll can sort his thigh strain out- suarez and aguero alongside him! Awesome. Sod wingers, thats what the full backs are for! Then in midfield we should go for an absolute beast, a creative passer and a box to box player. Davide santon or kyle walker right back. Aly cissoko, enrique, left back. Phil jones, sakho centre back. Sell all injury prone players- aurelio, agger(great when fit). Also sell kyrgiakos, degen, insua, aquilani, el zhar, ngog on loan, jovanovic, cole at least. Prob get £42m ish for them. That pays aguero fee. Then up to the owners for the rest!

Nigel, interesting list of players there but I think you are forgetting the new rules on home grown players… Its all very well having a huge list of top names but we would not be able to field them all. Need to get a few English/homegrown players in there too. Young would be a good start and then maybe Jarvis from Wolves.

    • Jay Wright says:

@Dave, it’s pretty easy to get around the homegrown rules really – just cut out the deadwood in our squad and let the reserves fulfil their roles, and we’d esaily be shifting more players than we need to bring in. There’s no need to be looking at players like Jarvis just because they’re English imo

personally i think this is a non-starter, for all their good intentions (and i believe them)I don’t think FSG are going to fork out the kind of cash it will take on just one player!
more realistic targets, in my view, are downing/albrighton, cahill, adam and enrique/baines

    • Jay Wright says:

I really hope that we don’t end up with those kind of players Steve!
I agree with you on Nzogbia and Enrique/Baines though – that would be a MASSIVE upgrade over Maxi/Cole/Jovanovich and Injured Aurelio/Konchesky.

We’d still need at least one more winger though…
