Aldo: Some players at the club have little ambition

|

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes that some of the Reds squad are happy to sit on their wage packets and have no desire to play first team football. He wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo:

“Kenny Dalglish has a huge job on his hands trimming the squad back and getting rid of the rubbish. We need quality rather than quantity and the target has to be to bring in four top players. The problem the manager has got is that some players already at the club have little ambition. They are quite happy to stay put and pick up their wages rather than go elsewhere for a bit less and play. I just can’t understand that mentality. I played until I was 39. Your playing days are the best of your life, the buzz from managing and coaching doesn’t even come close. You are a long time retired and you shouldn’t waste time just training and not playing. It’s going to be difficult because some will play hardball and sit on their contracts but Kenny has to try to move players on.”

Aldo believes many of the players who will leave won’t rake in that much money:

“With the exception of Alberto Aquilani, we’re not going to get much for those who leave. We paid good money for the likes of Christian Poulsen and Paul Konchesky but there comes a time when you have to cut your losses and take a hit.”

This week it is former LFC WAG Gisela Molinero!

Aldridge is right this time. Kenny needs to sell the players who are just a waste of space and focus on quality not quantity and sign 5 top class players: Baines, Moussa Sissoko, McCarthy, A Young and N’Zogbia.

@Eric, seeing those players come in and a bunch of our wasters exit would be a great transfer window!

Aside from McCarthy – I’ve never even noticed this guy before his name suddenly started popping up over the past couple of weeks of him being a £20m player!? What’s so great about him, really??

Irt Aldridge’s comments though, every player isn’t the same. If a club is dumb enough to sign a waster like Joe Cole to a £90k p/w contract for however many years, then he’s well within his rights to expect that money – whether he is worth it or not. It would be nice of players like him to ‘do the right thing’ and just go, but you can’t just assign your own morales onto somebody else and attempt to dictate to him that he should forego the earnings that he’s signed up for

I agree with Aldridge this time too, but don’t agree with your so called top player selection. Did not Aldridge say QUALITY players?, your selection, sorry to say, are just overated by the british media, and you know that is a fact if you go and watch football.

Good one mate. Liverpool won’t even be playing in the Europa League next season so you should forget about getting the likes of Hazard, Mata, Sanchez and Aguero. The players I have suggested are quality and you will know this if you watch football. But sadly, you probably spend most of your time playing Fifa 11 thinking you can sign anyone you want.

Kenny if you think in trophies and glorious days where the reds were the giants of europe, then those who deserve to stay are: Reina, Johnson,Carragher, Gerard,Suarez and Carroll. The rest should leave

  • I do agree with ” Aldo” of some players have little ambition .To be a professioalism a player must have great ambition this step coming from his Philosophy and common sense that’s the point a coach only give instruction or advice

  • rick says:

In my view Liverpool don’t need “big name players” or so – called “stars” but instead We should recruit quality players with strong ambitions.
Players with not a big – name and expensive wages, but with real quality and motivations. Players like Stewart Downing, Matt Jarvis, Charlie Adam, Scott Dann (Birmingham), Jose’ Enrique, Manuel Jurado (S04) perfectly fill the void.

  • Aldo stating the obvious. He likes to be in the news.KK will know what to do.Aldo you are an outsider really rather stop mouthing off your so called love for the club is getting bit tiresome.Things are generally moving along just fine. The summer has just started. The club will most certainly within the agreed parameters consider its needs accordingly. Our relative lack of success has created an industry of so called ex players club of experts.Sick really.YNWA
