Keegan: It could be FIVE Years before Reds win the title

|

Liverpool legend Kevin Keegan believes it could be five years before the Reds win the title again unless there is heavy investment in the playing squad this summer:

“I think the Liverpool squad is still way, way short. Unless huge investment comes in, I’d be amazed if Liverpool were to win the league championship in the next five years. You have to say the squad they have now is the poorest they have had in at least five years.”

Keegan also feels the Reds need to move away from Anfield:

“They are losing ground on their rivals by the minute, with only 40,000 coming into Anfield and not being in the Champions League. They need to find £300 million for a new stadium on top of all the rebuilding of the squad. They really have to seriously think of this new stadium and how they finance it. They need to get another 15,000 to 20,000 people in there so they can at least begin to compete with Manchester United on a commercial level. It saddens me to say it but they have to move from Anfield.”

This week it is former LFC WAG Jennifer Ellison!

Ridiculous statement – none of Man U, Arsenal or Chelsea have legitimate title caliber squads at the moment, and all need major investment in their playing squads just as we do.

As long as we spend our money better than they do, and Mancini continues to hold City back, then we could easily be title contenders again next season!

Silly statement, I don’t think many realize how important the manager is to the team, United are in no way as good Chelsea or Man City on paper or squad wise yet they will most likely be league winners again. I dont think any manager would get away with pairing Giggs and Carrick in central midfield and coming away with victories like Fergie has. If Liverpool continue with the way they progressing and maintain consistency, they could go very close within the next season

Why 5 years? Who not 6 or 8? These five year plans by Houllier and Wenger never bore fruit.

Liverpool can win the Premiership within TWO YEARS if we get out signings correct. A poor Man Utd side has nearly won it.Don’t tell me it takes 5years to build an average squad like Man Utd.

If we’ve learned anything over the years, it’s that listening to anything Kevin Keegan has to say is a very clear sign of being a bit of a mentalist; the man doesn’t have a clue anymore, and apart from one – nearly – successful stint as Newcastle boss he’s never achieved anything as a coach.

Liverpool have the grounds in place, I’d say next season may be a bit too soon but in two years time, there’s not reason why not.

Great player, nice guy, average manager at best. the comments are negative at best and i do believe just a tad bitter. Yes anyone with eyes can see we need more depth in the squad and i believe fsg will produce the cash for KD in the summer but lets not go mad with a 5 year prediction 2-3 yrs i would say more likely. And unless Kevin has been living in cave surely he can see that Man u are in diffs with their financial situation whereas LFC are now debt free.
tut tut kev think first speak second.
