Liverpool FC’s UEFA Cup Final victory in 2001 has won the race to be crowned the 188SPORT ‘Moment in Time’ from the club’s history.

The ‘Moments in Time’ campaign encouraged Reds fans to post and vote on their favourite moments and since club partner 188SPORT launched the initiative in February, over 1,700 fans have had their say.

The winning moment, posted by Michael Torno, details Liverpool FC’s historic win over Deportivo Alavés in the UEFA Cup Final, 2001. On that legendary night in Dortmund, Germany, an action-packed game saw the teams exchanging goals until the score lay at 4-4 after 90 minutes.

Extra-time saw more tension and excitement for the fans, with an Alavés goal ruled out for offside, before an own-goal from Alavés defender Delfí Geli meant the Reds won the game on the golden goal rule, completing a historic season treble of FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup.

Michael’s post accumulated the most votes from Reds fans and through 188SPORT’s relationship with Liverpool FC, he received the special prize of playing football on the hallowed turf at Anfield. In addition, over the course of the campaign, all those who contributed by uploading their favourite moments were entered into weekly competition draws for a range of match tickets to see Liverpool FC in action.

Jeff Baker, Head of Marketing Services at 188SPORT, said:

“We are delighted that the ‘Moments in Time’ campaign has sparked some serious debate amongst Liverpool FC fans. It has been great to see some passionate Reds supporters showing their enthusiasm and knowledge of their club’s history. We would like to thank everyone who took part and particularly congratulate Michael on the popularity of his posting.”
