Buying Such Players Is No Way To Build A Dynasty

Fernando Gago’s agent was quoted in the Daily Star this morning saying that Liverpool were pursuing the Real Madrid midfielder:

“There has been interest in the past from some Italian clubs and Aston Villa, but Liverpool have shown the most interest.”

Gago is certainly a very decent player, and would certainly strengthen our depth in defensive midfield where the soon to be departing Christian Poulsen is the only real alternative if Lucas gets injured.

Kenny Dalglish generally played with two holding midfield players during the last half of the season, and utilised Jay Spearing alongside Lucas on a number of occasions. The tactic helped the Reds with their defensive solidity and gave the defence a shield in front of the back four which was very effective in the matches it was utilised.

With Liverpool already purchasing Jordan Henderson and the likely capture of Charlie Adam, the offensive central midfield options already looks overcrowded, but I firmly believe that if Poulsen departs, Kenny and Comolli will be looking across Europe for another holding midfield player to compliment Lucas.

With the agent stating Liverpool’s interest in the player, Gago seems to be the primary candidate at the moment. I do have a worry about the Argentine though. He stated today that he feels homesick in Madrid and would like to move back to Boca Juniors quite soon in the future.

“I know everybody at the club and really feel at home there. It is not easy for me that I am all alone here in Europe and I am eager to return to Argentina. We will have to look at my sporting options, but it looks as if I will stay in Europe for now. I have a great desire to return to Boca, though. I simply love the jersey and it is very hard to explain my feelings toward the club. It is not just my decision, as a lot depends on what Real Madrid want.”

surely gago is a backup plan if blackpool don’t lower their price for adam.

If that’s what the guy is really saying then Kenny will just walk away from the supposed negotiations.

I suspect this is more paper talk written by lazy hacks.

Just leave it to Kenny and have faith in him. Remember first time round went and bought Barnes when no London team would touch him. Then went to Oxford and bought both Aldridge and Houghton with no proven top class records. Got the best out of Molby etc etc….

PS Swansea away first game !!!

If he comes for 2 or 3 years and helps us win the league whilst with us I would happily wish him well and think only good things about him. And by then there would be a certain talented academy developed youngster old enough to be given the chance to replace him in the form of coady! In 2-4 years the current academy will be ready to give us our legacy. We will need players between now and then and as long as they’re talented I don’t care where they come from or where they want to go after us! As long as its not to or from old trafford of course ha ha.

I’m sure Gago has spoken to Alonso and Arbeloa about Anfield, he’d get a great welcome from the fans and made to feel at home.
