Is £55M on these Four Players Really Value for Money?

|
Image for Is £55M on these Four Players Really Value for Money?

So today Liverpool – according to every press source under the sun – have upped their bid for Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson.  Apparently, the reported initial bid of £13 million wasn’t enough so the club went back in with a £15-16 million bid.  Again, they were rebuffed.  Today, we’ve moved again with a bid in the region of £18.5 million.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m as pleased as punch that we are able to table bids of this sum for players, it shows that we’re not short of a bit of money anymore.  But what we’re talking about here is a player who has spent his entire professional career (one spell at Coventry apart) with a bottom 10 club.  In two full seasons at Sunderland, he has played 77 games and scored just 5 goals.  He is a midfielder and an attacking one – that can also play out wide  – and he has scored just 5 goals over two seasons.  We have tabled – reportedly – an £18.5 million bid for this player, who also has one England cap.  He has never played in Europe and has not yet even made an impression when playing against one of the big sides.

Contrast this with a player reportedly on offer for £500,000 less, Valencia’s Juan Mata, and you can see why I’m a little concerned about the amount we’re prepared to pay.  Mata, by contrast, is barely 3 years older than Henderson, has played over 170 times for Valencia with 46 goals to his name.  He has also played 11 times for the best national side in the world, scoring 4 goals.  He has played a further 38 games for Spain at various youth levels, scoring 21 times.  Now if anybody believes (and can also prove) that the Englishman is greater value for money then I will happily retract my statement and eat my hat.

Similarly, I have read today via the official LFC site that Ipswich have refused an £8 million bid for their young striker Connor Wickham.  They believe that they are entitled to about £2 million more and I can see why, after all he has scored an intimidating 15 goals in 72 appearances for Ipswich.  In the Championship.  Now, I appreciate that I may sound overly harsh, he is after all only 18 years old and it’s impressive in the sense that he’s playing regularly in the Championship and has been since he was 16.  But £10 million?  For an 18 year old that has scored 15 goals in his whole career so far?  I’m sorry but British or not; ‘home-grown’ or from the Isle of Sandwich, that fee is positively extortionate.  In January, we spent just over double that on a proven Uruguayan international that had scored over 140 goals in his career by the age of 24 – Luis Suarez.

pls concentrate looking for left back defender

    • Jay says:

Im sure Jose Enrique will be announced and he is great…thing is this home grown quota has wrecked it, now everyone is over spending.

Considering a team like spurs got Bale for 5mill, Huddlestone for 2.5mill, Lennon for 1mill, Dawson for 4mill and Kyle Walker for 4 million within the last 5 years you can see how mad its got, all those 4 are in the english squad and Bale has just won the PFA award….all for 16.5 million!!!! 2 million less than Henderson

  • nawi says:

get Diarra(defensive mf), Downing, Dann, Enrique

  • zahid says:

If where getting Henderson (good player but over priced) are we still going to get Charlie Adams? if so where are we going to play everyone in the centre, we have Gerrard, Meireles, Lucas, Spearing, Shelvey, i know some will be squad players, but im thinking Henderson is going to be first team since we are paying all this money on him? Oh well in Kenny I Trust……YNWA

  • Arsalan says:

This is just plain depressing.18m for a crap like henderson.Dalglish has started losing the plot.At liverpool we always had lesser money and therefore less skillful players but right now we have buckets and what are we spending on.Henderson?cattermole?…For 18m you can get 3 hendersons in a french or spanish league….This is our time to shine.Go and buy the matas, hazards, agueros and sanchez(at least 3) of this world. And what do we buy?this cheap english crap. Its extremly to see that 75m go down the drain which will set us another 5-8 years back.Wake up and smell coffee.we already have a henderson in the academy by the name of conor coady…For God sake buy established stars and make the team around that with youngsters…I seriously think with Rafa we would have bought first class talent with that money. This just plain depressing all this money wasted on very average players just because they are born in england :s.First Caroll and now this joker. Why dont we understand.Suarez almost cost 60% of Caroll but hes 4 times the player the geordie ever will be.Please buy talent not englis prima donnas

    • DanielLFC says:

Also, remember the man called Diego Perotti we had basically already bought? Think again… http://www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/spurs-suffer-setback-in-wing-wizard-pursuit? He’s not going anywhere…

    • jacko says:

get a grip in the KING we trust if he says it it goes end of !!!!! its starting to piss me off everyone knows best trust in kenny he will deliver! YNWA

    • Judge says:

Arsalan -> What are you on about? If you dont want to believe in the team and and get behind the manager then simply go and support some other team like the glory hunting fan you appear to be. How many times have you watched Henderson play?? So I guess SAF up the East Lancs Rd has got it completely wrong in rating him also and he FIFA Top 10 players of the future report is just absolute rubiish then?? As for buying Hazard, Aguero and Sanchez I take it that you don’t notice the articles on the same websites or in same papers that you read that are talking about £30m+ for each of these?!?!?

As for your comment re: Rafa, as much as I worshipped the bloke he was hardly faultless in the transfer market (e.g. Robbie Keane £20m+?? ; wanting to sell Alonso to buy Barry ??)

Actually I should just sum up my reply to your comments in 1 word …..”clueless”

      • Arsalan says:

Maybe if you read my comment carefully you would realize. Is carroll worth 35m ever.I doubt he will be ever worth that.We paid double the price for him.Mata is 20m odd is much better than a 15m downing.Henderson has the potential but 18m is a joke.More like 8m for him is o.k.Buying established players for first team is what we want.I have followed henderson and hes average.Granted hazard may cost 25m or sanchez 30 m but they will not be only good players.they will be world class and having these players make a differnce.Btw rafa did not buy keane.he was against it.The players we were linked with were David villa, dani alves, malouda etc.but back then we didnt had money. Now we have. Why not buy such players then.Get your facts right first

        • Judge says:

exactly what FACTS didn’t I get right??????

You KNOW that Rafa didnt buy Keane for a FACT right? Wow! You must have a fantastic source unless you are Christian Purslow???

I never said that Carroll was worth £35m . Unfortunately we got held to ransom following Torres going for £50m and paid well over the odds but I still believe in and support him like a TRUE red until there is evidence to the contrary – not after half a dozen games after a long term injury. And anyway, what FACTS prove that he’s a waste of money but Sanchez would be worth the same sort of fee???

Likewise I never mentioned that Downing for £15m was a good idea.

Any being linked with players doesnt mean its true and a FACT.

          As I said….”clueless”…

        • phil0705 says:

Arsalan comments are poor. Surely by now you understand that the price of a player is not only a reflection of his quality, but also of his age, the time left on his contract, and his potential sell-on value. Foreign names may sound more glamourous but many big-name foreign players fail in the premier league. We signed Suarez, and are trying to sign Jeffren and Bojan. All the same Henderson, Wickham, Jones are great young talent. Its a pity we missed out on Young. I too am a big Rafa fan, but mostly a Liverpool fan, backing the club, backing the manager, and backing the team, well that’s our part in getting us back where we belong. For the record Hazard says he will not move this summer anyway, Aguerro does not play in a position we need to sign, and Mata, well, for me is not that great …. just a Mata of opinion ?

        • Lfc4Life says:

Arsalan- Regarding Rafa you are spot on he did not want keane!
Hence him being sold 6months later……..!

        • albey says:

arsalan I do apreciate your point of view but may I just say we have had the expensive players from other countrys and a lot of them have strugled to settel in the uk buying henderson and yes maybe over priced but Kenny didnt set the price is english will settel in straight away is used to the EPL is an England international is 20 yrs old has plenty of time to develop which is the same with Andy Carroll this is a problem in the English game clubs are over inflating transfer fees to the so called big clubs and we as a big club are being held to ransom by an ex manc but if Kenny thinks this boy is part of his plan to take us back to the top then I am with King Kenny all the way

      • Shaz says:

Still 18.5 mill??? 35mill for Carrol?? OVERPRICED!

        • Judge says:

Shaz -> I agree with you re: overpriced – the prices are well OTT. My comments aren’t meant about whether certain players are worth the fees but for a ‘fan’ to say that a player is “crap” and a “joke” and that the manager “has lost the plot” is just ….”clueless”.

        • Lucas says:

We are all Liverpool fans so try to respect each other I also agree that we shouldn’t be signing Henderson for £18.5m he’s simplay not proven to be worth anywhere near that amount and we are not made of oil money like man city…

      • jacko says:

couldn’t agree more mate well said !! (judge)

    • Jacklad99 says:

I totally agree with you , there’s ten times more talent out there for a fraction of the money , hope kenny doesn’t become a manager looking for champions league only , with this money we should be competing for the title

      • Arsalan says:

well judge….18.5m is v.v.v.steep price to pay for a talent who has a decent season and a half at premiership. We paid 35m for carroll for half a season in premiership?

the point is buying talent regardless british or not
sanchez aguro mata etc are talents..the evidence is reflected in the the clubs after them.comparing henderson to such proditious talent is mere silliness.Henderson is a half decent player but paying 10m for him just becauz hes british just doesnt justify.we can look at players like canales, wisel, sissoko of toulose etc for 10m odd and believe me if you see them play they are twice or thrice the talent of henderson

Sakho..(youngest captain of psv) is 10m and is 20 years old.As i support psv and wtch them he is 3 times the player jones will be
but jones at 16m.with no euro experience.this must be a joke.
I love lvrpool and thus would love if money is spent carefully unless we used to previously

        • Judge says:

Arsalan – Im not disagreeing with you that the fees are crazy but its been like that for years with English talent (£18m for Carrick anyone? £16-18m for D Bent twice!!). My point is that we must TRUST that KK and the club know what they are doing when they are scouting these players.

As much as we would all like to see established recognised names such as Aguero in the red shirt it very unlikely to happen without us being in the Champions League. Same thing with Ashley Young who I happen to think would be an excellant buy at around 15-18m but he wants CL football (hopefully I will be proved wrong in the coming days but I wont be holding my breath.

I cant comment too much about Phil Jones as I havent seen him that much but I do know from 2 PSF supporting colleagues how much they rate M Sakho. However when I mentioned £10m they laughed and said ‘try at least double that!’ which would then also make it crazy money.

My original point still remains – whilst it may well be that Henderson et al are overpriced it doesnt make them “crap” players or “jokers”.

        • albey says:

Arsalan have you not heard about the new rule this comming season were you have to have a percentage of english players in the first team we have some fantastic young players at our club but they are not ready yet to come through so by buying these english players we are adearing to the rules which will give time for the youth to progress and save LFC millions of pounds in transfers And one other thing all these alledged fantstic european players your ranting on about would they come to liverpool with out euro competition next season I think not so as one other red said he hopes kenny not just trying to get in champs league well I believe that is his thinking then if we need to buy europeans or world players we have something to entice them with .

        • Andy says:

“Sakho..(youngest captain of psv) is 10m and is 20 years old.As i support psv and wtch them he is 3 times the player jones will be”

Total bullshine you proved yourself a numpty here, Sakho is a PSG player not a PSV player and if you support them go support them and leave us alone. What we pay for a player is the judgement of Kenny, Camoli and FSG and in them I trust. I’d take Wenger’s judgement over yours and he went for Jones not Sakho first, so stop making out you’re an expert you’re not.

    • Joe-El says:

      Agreed 1000000000%

      • Arsalan says:

8m is a gud price for henderson.18m in retrospect for player like henderson is crap thats my point.Sakho maybe 12m-15m

Yes absence of champions league is a point but it also doesnt mean we lose our senses and spend on players who are massively overvalued

Yes we may have to convince players like aguero, sanchez but outlining our policies that we are on a way to up and will be playing champions league in a year or so may tempt them and we should realize that these players are 22-23.they are not old and they can experience next year.We are still Liverpool and we will always tempt better players than likes to tottenham and mancity even with CL because we are more than a club.We are LIVERPOOL

        • zahid says:

Arsalan refrain from commenting until you know the facts you tit. Yes Henderson is overpriced but we now know Ngog maybe going the other way. I do agree with you going for Hazard, Sanchez or Mata would be more beneficial, but how do you know the club hasn’t contacted them players and they don’t want to come to us or the club refuse to let LFC speak to the players. Most of the rumours are rubbish and its too early to judge Carroll……YNWA

        • albey says:

so why are we behind spurs and man city in the EPL if we could entice top players think your living on the past glorys . I have supported liverpool from the 60s but i realise we are way behind some clubs in the EPL which means rebuilding from the foundations not for a few seasons but for decades to come you have to be realistic mate not wear red tinted specs .

    • michael says:

we havnt spent anything yet and to say kenny has lost the plot you should be ashamed. kenny has built 2 championship winning sides at liverpool and blackburn. whoever he signs is good enough for me.

  • Alan says:

We paid way over the odds too for Robbie Keane and what a disaster that was.

I’d prefer Lassana Diarra to Jordan Henderson. I like Jones at Blackburn so would pay the 16m for him. Conor Wickham for 9m is a long term prospect too.

But we should pay £22m for Juan Mata as he will give us real class with Suarez and Gerrard.

  • Bazza says:

    Could not agree more……

  • Kaleem says:

I get the feeling too that the English / British card is being over played. If we do end up with Jones, Henderson and Wickham worth around 40m, then that should should be enough. I would hate to have a Downing over someone like Hazard, or a Baines over half his price better foreign left back. We already have plenty of local players including Carra, Johnson, Kelly, SG, Shelvey, Spearing, Carroll, Flanagan, Robinson, etc. Why make a Sunday market of heaviliy overpriced domestic averagers? After all we have wasted money in the past on Crouch, Pennant, Keene, Konchesky, Jones, etc. We need only 2 or 3 title winning players irrespective of nationality not tough heavy compost bag carriers only!

    • phil0705 says:

wasted money on Crouch ? not at all. under Rafa he became a prolific striker at club and international level. the concentration on british talent is to comply with new regulations. anyway, are we saying that morientes, pellegrino, nunez, insua, etc etc, were great signings, or we only mention the british ones ?

  • Jamm says:

    Yeah, I totally agree.

The only conclusion I can come to is that either:

The board will not pay the extortionate wages that these better more experienced players will be after as they are trying to get the wage bill down.

    Or

That the higher status players simply won’t come to us due to lack of European football and that we’re the 6th best team in England.

Either way I’m getting a little concerned but hopefully KK will put 1 or 2 rabbits out of the hat.

  • DILLON says:

well danny graham who is also young [last seasons championship top goal scorer] goes to swansea for 2.5 mill so i cant see why wickham should be 10 mill.im not saying hes not a good player but when you compare with the other deal i just mentioned then u have to think is 10 mill good value ?

    • Andy says:

£3.5 million mate, not £2.5 million he’s 25 (26 in August) and never been near an international squad. Then he has a total of 15 EPL games with 1 goal, which when compared to Henderson (78 games, 5 goals) is poor despite Henderson’s game not being judged on goals. Add on the facts that Henderson is all but 5 years younger, has an international cap and has been touted as a future star and linked with a £25 million pound move to man u. Furthermore let’s compare Henderson’s stats to Stevie G after 2 and a half years of senior football. Henderson 78 games, 5 goals, Gerrard 94 Games 11 goals. While I accept it’s asking a lot to see Henderson score 6 goals in his next 16 games, Stevie was playing in a better team. Now ask yourself this if Stevie G was 20 and we were bust (like last year) what would you do with a £10 million offer for him? Exactly it would be an insult, Kenny knows what he is doing so I trust him

  • SuaRed!!! says:

Top players with great attitudes! I’m happy with Liverpool spending these summs on these players!

Torres at £20m + was a joke to you same people who are on here now moaning about Henderson, Whickham, Mata an Phil Jones?

Hendeson is one of the best young central/right midfielders in england get your head out of your arse lads!!!

    • Jamm says:

“Torres at £20m + was a joke to you same people who are on here now moaning about Henderson, Whickham, Mata an Phil Jones?”

      WRONG!

    • jacko says:

i agree. i loved rafa too but bought some duds and sold alonso!the KING will sort it who are we to doubt him ?ppl need to shut up and watch what happens next season YNWA

    • Jacklad99 says:

Oh yea awesome just what we need another slow midfielder , you better get to spec savers , we need pace out with , we are the slowest team in the top half of the table , pace quality and flair ,

    • Ben says:

Top players with great attitudes! WTF are you on about? They are NOT top players, maybe one day, but certainly not yet! Plus what do you know about their attitudes? Just because they’re English?????? If all the stories are true and come to fruition, then I think we will come to regret it massively! Even if we can’t attract big players as Jamm said, I’d rather we didn’t go out and spend all this money on the players we are being linked with! Buying okay-ish players from sunderland, blackburn, ipswich etc, doesn’t make us manu, barca etc, it just makes us newcastle or something! Except in extreme circumstances when you really do unearth a gem!
I’m getting a bit worried now, but won’t get too carried away until the transfer window shuts and I see who we ended up with! Hopefully there’s loads going on about we haven’t heard of and players like we are being linked with is rubbish or back up (and one for the future).

    • Joe-El says:

Thats daft. Torres’ assumed market value at the time was circa £25-30m. We bought him for arounf his assumed market value. Nobody was shocked at the price. To say so is a huge lie… is just beyond daft.

People need to get their heads around this FACT. Just because MANY are not happy (to say the least) with the stupid amount of money wasted on Carroll, it doesn’t mean he is not supported in a LFC top by those same people.

If my missus raided her personal account and bought me a £150k Ferrari for £300k I’d happily take the car (and love it) but I’d still be pissed off that she wasted £150k needlessly.

Carroll’s market value was no more than circa £12-15m… at the very most £17.5m so we spent at least double on the lad. Now everyone wants to cash in on LFC’s new found wealth and stupidity!

  • Ashok says:

Some of our fans cant understand that we cannot buy the hazards. ,matas, sanchezs and agueros as they want champions league. They all have quashed the rumous that they are coming to lfc. Hazard have openly said he likes arsenal, alexie sanchez have said he will only move to a champions league team . How can we buy plys who doesnt want to play for us. Remember trotter torres. Moreover i agree that we are paying well over the odds for them and we shoud buy or try to buy playes such as turan, nzobia, marin, dzudshak as they are nøt overrated

    • Red or Dead says:

Its not that we can’t understand, its that we are Liverpool fans and want the best for our team and aim as high as possible! We don’t like to settle for crap, but will support who does come! Plus if you don’t bid, you don’t know! Not all top players are Champions League regulars, and man city weren’t in it until now! Yeah they pay massive wages, but other than that we are a more attractive club (well until they got 3rd spot)!

    • phil0705 says:

over-rated ? under-rated ? just a matter of opinion. judge the players when theyve been at the club 2 years not before they arrive. the same numpties reckoned that Lucas was poor ! wake up and smell the coffee

  • Lee says:

I have no issue with us signing Jones, Henderson and Wickham. They are all good young players and will get better and be worth much more money over time….but that is where it should end as we should complement these with more established classy players, i.e. Mata etc.

We should not go out and waste money on crap like Enrique, Diarra, Dann and Downing. They’ll all cost a fortune and they will never be any good especially Downing.

As for that muppet Arse-alan above, Rafa would simply blow the money on foreign crap like Aquilani or good players that show absolutely no loyalty and leave after a couple of years. As for your Carroll comment, I bet he’ll bang in more goals than Suarez next season – the guy has been injured for god sake and will improve given half a chance. Idiots like you who probably sit around playing Champ Manager all day could do with learning a thing or two about football before you shoot your mouthes off.

    • Judge says:

Well said that man – couldnt agree with you more!

    • DanielLFC says:

All very true! However, I think you are wrong saying Enrique and Downing are crap. Downing has had a very good season and now plays for England and Enrique is actually one of the best LB in the league, behind Evra, Cole Kolarov and Baines although I do rate Stokes Higginbotham as he is quite handy at free kicks as shown against Newcastle, and is also good defensively.

    • Shaz says:

      GOOD REPLY

    • Shiggsy says:

Well said Lee, I’m shocked at all the Carroll hatred on here, every time he’s played for us at full fitness so far he’s lit up the park.

  • DILLON says:

and as for the henderson deal it looks like were at it again, willing to pay over the top for british talent.carrol must be nearly twice the player of saurez cause he cost nearly twice the price.i dont know why were so desperate to pay silly money for british,we already have a fair amount of british youngsters at our club not to mention the odd 15,16 year old we bring in like that irish kid weve just got.we saw about 5 young british players brake into our team last season with more still to come through not to mention the likes of carrol and johnson so why not spend the big money on a couple of class foreigners .a couple of very skillful players down the flanks is where we need to spend big and 1 or 2 very good defenders of course we do need as well.i would also love to see a class holding mid like matuidi join us for next season.saurez has done more for us than carrol has so far and cost alot less.if we went in search of the european equiv of henderson i wonder if he would cost us 20 mill,i some how dont think he would

    • Morten says:

Mayby not, but the Spanish equivilant of Carra was crap. Morientes had 500 matches experience, was CL top scorer and crap. Aldo was not good enough to tie Rushie’s shoes before we bought him and Barnesy was an incosistent mid league wanna be, who was never gonna make it Pool. How much more beatifull is hindsight than foresight, because one is accurate while the other is just lucky speculation?

  • ziyaad says:

Couldn’t agree more with this piece. Rafa’s biggest gripe was that English players are overpriced & his words still hold true. Sure, Henderson & Wickham seem decent prospects, but we have super talent in our very own academy similar to them viz Coady, Jonjo, Sterling etc. I’d rather we use that kinda funds to acquire the services of proven class players like Mata, Hazard, Navas, Aguero & Coentrao.

  • wilko says:

christ are you ever positive about anything, everything u r reading or hearing is speculation, and if it is true surely a man who has Repeatedly won, as a player and a manager the highest honours in the game, can be trusted to know how to build a team.
Bet you used to believe the stories in the daily sport.

    • arif says:

it’s not about that, what he is just pointing out whether buying those players would be worth it, given how much the media is making a big fuss about everything, sigh.. english media

  • wilko says:

please will you post a link for the Connor Wickham story on the officail site?. (not the media watch)

  • trev says:

wait and see kk knows what hes doin i feel were payin well over the odds for these players but i havent a clue compared to kk so let him get on with it and we cant go far wrong

  • wayfowardLFC says:

If we are going to mount a serious title challenge and fa cup victory, then you all know as well as i do that hardly any player gets through the season without injury. We need more proper players like Adam Johnson and Charlie Adam who give 100% and would strengthen any side, get the kids for £55m whatever it costs for the squad to be changed Iv’e been watching LFC since 1977 and can smell success, NESV’s thinking is big, then when we are back on top we can deal on better terms…

  • Joe-El says:

I agree 100% with all that was written. Its just ludicrous that LFC are even entertaining such stupidity. It all boils down to the stupendous amount of money spent on Andy Carroll. His assumed market value was much lower than half that squandered on him, now everyone is looking at that transfer and taking LFC to the cleaners. Right now I think LFC are fast becoming the laughing stock of European football. Unlike Chelsea and Man City who threw large amounts of money on proven talent (with varying levels of success) LFC are now more than happy to throw HUGE amounts at players that aren’t just unproven and limited but also lack true potential to explode into world class stars of the future. The best that Jordan Henderson can aspire to be is not-so-good Carrick (who is far from brilliant by any stretch of the imagination). The best that Connor Wickham can aspire to be is Carroll (we’ve already got one of those… unfortunately) and the best that Jones can aspire to be is an average defender.

Voicing my concerns sounds SO negative, but I can’t help but feel that in order to compete with the best, we have to buy the best. Young, Hazard, Mata, Sanchez, Cissohko, Cahill and Adam will all move (one or two may not) this summer. If we have money to spend we should concentrate on them not the lacklustre overpriced English crap we’re being linked to.

    • DanielLFC says:

*Cough*… Tell me, where were Ashley Young, Cahill or Adam say 5-6 years ago? Young was at Watford, Cahill was on loan to Burnley, and Adam was on loan to St. Mirren.. Hardly big clubs and so you would think to snub them. Henderson, at 18, is a regular starter in the premier league, Connor Wickham is a rising talent and Carroll has an amazing goal scoring record for club and country. Did you not watch him v Man City or when he beat Reina from 25 yards? You should do some research before slagging players off that are younger and in better positions than the English talent you so crave..

I’m an LFC supporter JUST LIKE YOU and want us to start competing for the title NOW. We need players that can come in and give us that extra quality now. Players that have had those FIVE years (as you put it) and are NOW quality. Ashley Young, Cahill and Adam may have not have been the players they are now 5 years ago but we’re spending MORE today on players that are at least FIVE years behind them.

Young will go for less than Henderson but is in a different league isn’t he!
Is Adam better today than Henderson yet we only bid a measily £4m for him in January… is Henserson £14m better… NO CHANCE!

Young doesn’t want to play for a team not in champs league, much like all the top proven talent around…unfortunately.

Ridiculous comments by DanielLFC. Henderson is a regular starter at an average Sunderland team and Spearing is a now a regular starter at Liverpool but would you pay 20m for him? The likes of Wilson, Carroll, Wickham and Henderson are all overrated and overpriced British players who are over hyped by the English media. Carroll had a good half a season in the Premier League with Newcastle and that was it. Apart from the Man City game he was rubbish in all the games he played. To say that he is worth 35m is an absolute joke. Kenny and Comolli are simply clueless people who are paying way over the odds for average British youngsters.

I mean is it that amazingly great to be impatient and lambast a young fellow without slightest consideration? All of you “Andy-Haters”, he is just a kid coming into a big team, he was injured for half a season for the sake of lord !!! Give the kid a season under Kenny, and how on earth do you dare to assume that you could or ever will know better than Kenny ? I bet you absolutely HATED Lucas till a season back, did not you? Don’t tell me I am wrong, I won’t believe you!

Mates… Remember when King Kenny was at the helm of that club for the last time. There were also these kind of signings of players that nobody knew then… But what happened? Liverpool were a football club that everybody was scared of… I believe in what Dalglish do! You MUST believe too! He and Comoli know what is the best for this club and if now we have the money I don’t see what the problem is… Just wait and you will see that these players would be a big hit next season 😉 YNWA

    • jacko says:

i don’t think ppl realise the the KING is our manager now we need to trust him ! he will spend money on who HE thinks is best for LFC the club is in his heart and soul money and transfer prices shouldn’t concern us the fans just how the team plays and results stop winging about this signing or any other signing and just support the club !!!!!!FACT 🙂

    • Joe-El says:

Believing in Kenny as the man to bring the glory days back doesn’t mean I’m all of a sudden gonna have blind faith in everything like some religious muppet. Kenny bought absolute crap at Newcastle. Comolli has bought absolute crap for many clubs and he has a history of paying over the odds. His scatter gun approach smacks of irresponsible to me.

We are meant to be the most knowledgeable of all supporters but the couple of years has made me question this!

      • jacko says:

true but everyone is moaning about this and that 6 months ago we had woy and the 2 yanks in charge i for 1 am a lot happier now !!

        • Joe-El says:

Mate I’m more than happy that Roy Hodgson-of-a… is out of the club, I was calling for that spanner to be sacked back in September (no lie!)

Kenny is the right man for the job. The signing of Suarez by Comolli shows he knows what a great player looks like. The signing of Carroll for £35m was laughable and its consequences are now clearly apparent… if we were after Poulsen today we’d get quoted £15m LOL

      • phil0705 says:

in your case i would definitely question it …..
