Is he heading for Anfield? Or is it just Twitter nonsense?

|

The Mirror now claims (20/06/11) that Newcastle have dropped out of the race for the winger, due to concerns over his 60k per week wage demands – although they were apparently willing to match Wigan’s £12m valuation of the player. A move back to Tyneside had always seemed a strange choice for N‘Zogbia, given that the player had expressed his wish to move to a bigger club in his previous stint with Newcastle.

It is rumoured on various other sites that Sunderland (ClubCall) and Everton (footballpress) (goal) have also shown an interest in N‘Zogbia. But they would both be unlikely to beat Liverpool to his signature. Everton’s financial woes are well documented, as are their difficulties in finding buyers for Ayegbeni Yakubu and Joseph Yobo in order to raise funds for N’Zogbia.

Sunderland would find it hard to compete with Liverpool in the pursuit of a player who wants to join a big club, and who has aspirations of winning more caps for France. The chance to link up with the likes of Gerrard, Suarez et al, and to compete at the top end of the table whilst being a part of Kenny Dalglish’s new look Liverpool next season will surely be a more attractive proposition than Sunderland.

It seems that the Mirror have been following this particular saga for some time, and with a good amount of detail. The move for N’Zogbia seems to tick all the boxes for the FSG criteria – he is young, exciting and has Premier league experience. More importantly however, he is a fantastic winger, which Liverpool have needed for some time.

For those that doubt him. I say N’Zogbia has great ability and has the potential to be sensational if surrounded by quality players. Praise doesn’t often come from much higher quarters than Sir Bobby Robson who stated back in 2008 that:

“N’Zogbia could go to the very top with the right coaching and motivation, and I hope it is with Newcastle. I signed him as a teenager and he was one of the most naturally gifted players of that age I’d ever seen.” (Mail Online)

Based on the information available online, I would be willing to stick my neck out and say that I believe that Liverpool are both interested and in, and are actively pursuing the signing of Charles N’Zogbia. I assume that those behind the Twitter ’exclusive’ have drawn similar conclusions. I do not believe however, that they are privy to ‘inside information’, but rather that they are merely producing informed guesswork – as am I. Expect movement on this transfer soon, and watch this space! I’ll put my head on the block for this one!

Triple S are a firm set up bt Paul Stretford (former agent of Shrek). From what I’ve discovered there doesn’t seem to be any link between NZogbia’s french agent and this group, but I guess that’s only ever one phone call away, murky world that it is.

My great fear in all this is the peronality and motivation of the player. KK is from the old bootroom school, where there was a high emphasis on a players character. From this side of things, hopefully this should help identify any issues in trhis area, but the last thing we need is another Anelka situation.

Agree with keeping away from an Anelka situation! Stretford and the ‘ROONEY SAGA’is scarey – scullduggery at it’s worst!!!

  • DaveWestAus says:

    Skullduggery also???
