Many reports are suggesting that Liverpool are lining up a bid for Ipswich striker Connor Wickham. Wichkam is only 18 years old but has been touted as the next Alan shearer. I have never liked young players being compared to greats and they should be given the opportunity to make a name for themselves.
Liverpool will certainly need to go into the market this summer and get another striker to incase Suarez and Carroll are injured or out of form. In the past we have relied on David Ngog to come in and play upfront but he has not covered himself in much glory and as a result he may be leaving Liverpool this summer.
A player like Wickham would be ideal for Liverpool as he would not be demanding to start every single game unlike if we go out and sign another £25million striker. Wickham is one for the future but can come in and do a job now if need be. My main concern is the reported £12million asking fee for him from Ipswich.
Yes, young English players are being sold for a premium right now as we have just seen with our own Jordan Henderson and Phill Jones going to Manchester United.

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, Lfc MUST take calculated ‘risks’ on potential! £12m in today’s game is nothing. the likes of wickham, chamberlain and henderson need to be snapped up NOW because in 5 years time, with the way the market changes, they could be worth £40m! go for it kenny!

With him you do get a potential to be worth more.
Also Liverpool could use Oxlade Chamberlain more than Arsenal would as Liverpool doesn’t have Walcott or any wingers.
I know that Downing is not worth the money Liverpool will pay, he will have no resale value if he flops and there is nothing we can do to stop the transfer.
We can only hope Downing is not the only winger coming to Ainfield.
12 Mil will probably be inclusive of bonuses and add-ons, so i don’t think its too much..
think it’ll be intersting to see him in red, and he could really make the grade in the prem if he gets off to the right start
the only thing that really matters when signing players is resale value. can you see whickman being signed for £12 mill and then at 21 being worth less?
likelyhood is he is so young that whatever talent he has now will still look reasonable in 3 years time. and £12 mill for a 21 year old english striker is reasonable but not excessive. i think he’s a safe buy.
if it all goes wrong we’ll get minimum £7-8 mill.
I just want us to focus on getting Stewart Downing in, cant wait to see him sprinting down the wings and smashing goals into the back of the net after weaving his way around opponents at will. Soo excited about these average signings

12million for a player playing in championship? Carrol 35m has potential, Henderson 20m has potential, conor 12m has potential. That’s 67m on potential that may or amy not cut it. Time will tell. YNWA

yeah, also with Nzogbia dribbling down d flanks and scorin a lot of freekicks.
I also hope we get Djourou(of Arsenal). he’s the real deal.
Of all the players we are being linked with, Nzogbia makes me most uncomfortable, he is not bad, no he is not. But his attitude is not one to really hold up as an example, the ‘team’ that we are trying to build…not sure he fits in well into that.
We probably will not get him, this is just chit-chat to keep the real deals away from press attention.

I havent seen him play but judging from his stats, 9 championship goals in a whole season even though he is 18 isn’t all that good to be honest, not to mention the fact we already have some top strikers coming through the ranks (Morgan and Ngoo).
I dont see a need to take this risk, £12million in my opinion is way too much. However I am not an expert so for now, I will trust KK’s judgement.
Why would we need him. Besides Carrol and Saurez, Kuyt was outstanding upfront with the freedom allowed by Dalglish. If Liverpool get Adam it frees us Mereiles and Gerrard to play upfront IF needed. We saw last season Mereiles in behind kuyt before Saurez arrival as well as Gerrard supporting Torres a few seasons ago
13 million pound for 4 years.. good and get him… he must play EPL quicly to matured..
