Apologies for probably being overly excited but Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling once again showed yesterday why everyone is tipping him for great things. England beat Rwanda 2-0 in their opening match at the U17 World Cup, and no doubt the highlight of the encounter was Sterling’s curling effort two minutes from time which sealed victory for the Young Lions:

It wasn’t his only contribution to the match though. Only nine minutes had passed when the left winger had his first attempt on goal. He smashed in a fantastic drive past the Rwandan ‘keeper only for his shot to rebound off the post. He was proving to be a massive threat on the left hand side of midfield and he turned provider for Everton striker Hallam Hope when he delivered an excellent cross to the youngster’s head, only for the attempt on goal to once again rebound off the post.

For sure, there is a long way to go for Sterling. He is only 16 years of age, and still has a great deal to learn, but it is apparent already he is a class above most of those playing at U17 level. you were saying gerardious ? this lad is unstoppable and will be unstoppable at any age, why ? because he is unique, its his low centre of gravity, it’s his small but very fast stride, its the closeness of his feet in running, the opposition can only guess which way he is going to go and by then its too late so they foul him, add to this a keen football brain, and finishing ability and you have a football phenonenon – the best bit is that the idiots cant coach it out of him its all natural ability.
