To those who think we should not sign him, think again

There has been a lot of talk over the last 48 hours about Charlie Adam finally making a move across to Liverpool for £10million with possibly Jonjo Shelvey going on loan to Blackpool. Nothing official has been said yet and for now it continues to just be speculation. Liverpool were after Adam in the January transfer window but Blackpool refused to sell him as they wanted him to help them stay in the Premier League. Their fight for survival did not end well as they got relegated and there is no way I can see Charlie Adam playing in the Championship next season, so it is not a matter of if Adam will leave Blackpool but when and for which team.

Liverpool are the front runners to sign Adam. Spurs were also after him in January but that cooled down. Looking at it from a Liverpool point of view, Charlie Adam is a central midfielder and Liverpool currently have a lot of those now especially with Jordan Henderson being signed recently from Sunderland. Where would Adam fit in for Liverpool with the current squad we have?

There is no doubt that Adam is a talented footballer and he virtually almost kept Blackpool in the Premier League by himself with his goals and assists. Adam has a sweet left foot and some say he whips in the best corners in the league. His threat from set-pieces would be a much welcome addition to Liverpool. We have relied on Gerrard to deliver corners for us but all too often they are not of a high quality as Adam’s. But surely we can not just sign Adam for free-kicks and corners. Unless this was the NFL where you have players in the squad who just kick the ball from set-pieces.

Some fans have dubbed Adam as the perfect replacement for Xabi Alonso. This statement has been met with a lot of debate amongst the fans. Replacing Alonso is a tall order which I doubt any player will be able to do. Adam does offer a wide range of passes and can certainly pull the strings in midfield with Kenny’s pass and move style of play. But Adam is not a strong defender and he would need to have a Lucas playing alongside him and protecting him when he ventures forward.

Lol @ rotational player you senile old fart your losing the plot, get yourself checked in to a psychiatric unit. Alonso was our best player that season by faar, you sound more like a Manc then a scouser so stop your dribbling and move along muppet

you ask 100% of LFC fans whod they have Alonso or Modric 99% of them would choose Alonso

  • @zahid: at the risk of talkin 2 much, just tell me one thing Alonso is particularly gud at (apart from long passes n maybe shooting).
I believe statistics do not lie, so tell me, if He was our best player (by far), how come he wasn’t voted LFC player of the season (like Lucas)?
.. oh…. maybe d fans and mgnt also need to get their heads checked…..

Come on guys, this is not a personal battle now, is it? Chill it !

I actually don’t know why you guys are arguing on what seems to be clear. I know it’s fun to argue at times but dishing out curses& insult isn’t a nice idea. Meanwhile, yes! Alonso & Modric play in the midfield for their various clubs but their style of play to me is different as I feel Alonso is more defensiv than Modric while Modric is more Attacking than Alonso. So if i’m a club manager and i think i need some1 to make my midfield to be more defensive,i will go 4 Alonso & if what i need on the other hand is someone to make it more attacking, i would prefer Modric. So to me the answer to the question is ‘WHAT DO U NEED IN YOUR MIDFIELD’ as these two players are 1derful players with different strong points & weak points. YNWA

I agree with what your saying and appreciate your opinion mate, but i personally feel Alonso can do the attacking side as well as Modric. Don’t get me wrong Modric has been emmense since Harry took over Spurs and probably the most consistent midfielders past few seasons, but i feel Alonso is the full package, thats my opinion anyway

Have been away but had to laugh at folk who can only abuse folk for having a different opinion despite being fans of the same club. Xabi Alonso is all i hear two seasons on get over it, cast your mind back to the second Champs league final when he could not do anything decent and the season we finished second, we had eleven draws and games were thrown away by the lack variation in his passing, if Gerrard was out Xabi would not carry us to victory just another score draw and low scoring to boot.
Xsbi is good player but more suited to the Spanish league, to those who just abuse folk i will rise above cos my vocab and love for Liverpool keeps me focused.

I shocked on how many of us condemned Charlie Adam.. Don’t forget we lost to Blackpool twice last season.. He’s not at Xabi standard, but if King Kenny does not trust him, he won’t buy Adam..
