To those who think we should not sign him, think again

There has been a lot of talk over the last 48 hours about Charlie Adam finally making a move across to Liverpool for £10million with possibly Jonjo Shelvey going on loan to Blackpool. Nothing official has been said yet and for now it continues to just be speculation. Liverpool were after Adam in the January transfer window but Blackpool refused to sell him as they wanted him to help them stay in the Premier League. Their fight for survival did not end well as they got relegated and there is no way I can see Charlie Adam playing in the Championship next season, so it is not a matter of if Adam will leave Blackpool but when and for which team.

Liverpool are the front runners to sign Adam. Spurs were also after him in January but that cooled down. Looking at it from a Liverpool point of view, Charlie Adam is a central midfielder and Liverpool currently have a lot of those now especially with Jordan Henderson being signed recently from Sunderland. Where would Adam fit in for Liverpool with the current squad we have?

There is no doubt that Adam is a talented footballer and he virtually almost kept Blackpool in the Premier League by himself with his goals and assists. Adam has a sweet left foot and some say he whips in the best corners in the league. His threat from set-pieces would be a much welcome addition to Liverpool. We have relied on Gerrard to deliver corners for us but all too often they are not of a high quality as Adam’s. But surely we can not just sign Adam for free-kicks and corners. Unless this was the NFL where you have players in the squad who just kick the ball from set-pieces.

Some fans have dubbed Adam as the perfect replacement for Xabi Alonso. This statement has been met with a lot of debate amongst the fans. Replacing Alonso is a tall order which I doubt any player will be able to do. Adam does offer a wide range of passes and can certainly pull the strings in midfield with Kenny’s pass and move style of play. But Adam is not a strong defender and he would need to have a Lucas playing alongside him and protecting him when he ventures forward.

Xabi was over rated and not the player we needed, though Adam is not Aquilani he would be an asset as long as we make more room for him

    • zahid says:

Xabi overated? ofcourse he was that’s why he went on to win the world cup, is now a Spanish 1st team player keeping the likes of Fabregas, Silva, Mata etc on the bench. He keeps the like of Kaka on the bench. Get real you t**t, Xabi was class and still is, Adam will never be able to fill his shoes……YNWA

    • Shibashis says:

OMG you just made me laugh, and that is a hard thing to do ! 😉

  • Lewis says:

Don’t be silly. Xabi = Aquilani = Meireles >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Adam. He isn’t even in the same league as those two in terms of ability and quality. If Adam does come here expect to see him on the bench very often because Meireles is the better player.

  • Hoot says:

Xabi Alonso overrated!!!! Hahahahahaha are you a Manc lid??? Adam would be a decent acquisition to our squad.

  • Old Timer says:

NO! Dont rate him, dont want him. He is a second rate player compared to some we could have for the money. Just think, instead of him we could buy Honda!Easy to stand out in Blackpool’s squad, not so amongst quality players. He couldn’t cut the mustard at Rangers, so no chance at Liverpool!

    • M. says:

Exactly, thanks. Xavi is a world, European & CL champion, can play at the centre of any midfield in the world, keeping Ces out of the Spanish starting XI, plays for the most successful & charismatic club in the world, what else.

British players are over hyped, over-paid & over discussed. I don’t think the gap is narrower between Scotland & Spain than Blackpool & Real, in both cases where Adams & Xavi are stars respectively. Had Xavi & Masch been there still with SG fit again, Adams won’t have been on the bench ahead of Alberto, let alone Lucas or Raul.

Competing for CL or EPL title is a bit difficult than shining for a relegated team. I am sure Adams ‘ll be a superstar in Championship.

      If LFC

  • daboy says:

If Adam comes in you are going to need someone like Mascherano along side him his defensive side really needs work.

  • Eric says:

Adam is inferior to the likes of Alonso and Meireles, no question about that. Adam is only the big fish in the small pond in a rubbish Blackpool side filled with League One quality players. With Henderson, Meireles, Lucas and Gerrard already in the side, there is simply no need for Adam. What this guy will offer in midfielder we already have as Meireles and Gerrard are two world class players. If Kenny does decide to sign this guy I don’t expect him to walk straight into the side as we have better midfielders already. On top of that, I hope Kenny is not going to sell Meireles just to make space for this overrated Adam.

  • redz says:

@ nik …xabi alonso is 1 of de best midfielders in de world hence why he plays with 1 of de best teams in de world,it was de biggest mistake rafa made by selling him and trying to replace him with g barry(a jackass in my opinon)and ended up getting a crocked italian.gerard and meireles are a bit injury prone, we need adam hes worth 10 mill,a very good squad player,we need good back up on de bench if we want to challenge a top 4.

  • wazio says:

The problem is most of you are stupid rafa never had full control over transfers it was parry. Yet most of you think he wanted to sign keane an you think alonso wouldn’t have gone anyway it was his only chance. The reason why kenny is going british is the same reason why rafa went spanish communication.

  • Frozen says:

Why are people so particular about the money to be spent on Adam when the person releasing the money’s not complaining. It will be an Unfortunate situatn 4 liverpool if Gerrard picks up an injury next season alongside Raul but it will be a Fortunate situatn if we have Adam in such conditn. Acquiring Adam doesn’t stop us from getting Messi if we realy want to. So to me this is a welcome development. Forget about the mindset of ‘a big fish in a small pond’ who cares as long as d fish has d ability of growing to size in a big pond. Besides Sunderland isn’t a big pond and everybody is hailing the signing of Henderson.

  • dave says:

Adam’s strengths are as follows: he can spot a pass, he can make the pass and he can do all this quickly. He is a bit of a maverick footballer. He gets the ball and quickly looks to sling a pass to a forward running player. This could be a big asset in away games where we are looking to score on the counter- especially with plays like suarez and and Caroll making runs. I would keep him on the bench for the home games though where we should play a more possession based game. So all in all he is useful in affording us a different style of playing. Is he better than Honda et al? probably not, but then if he can win us games, who cares. Once we are in the CL, and Kenny has had another season under his belt, then we can begin to fine tune with some real quality acquisitions. So let’s not all have a fit and let Kenny do what he thinks best.

  • Gerrardious says:

whats the whole Hu-la-luu about Alonso? I get d feeling if Aquil had bn fit n blend into the team easily, a lot of u naive and ignorant ppl who think football is just A+B=C wouldnt be talkin trash.
Liverpool’s problems under Rafa didnt start simply bcos we sold Alonso. It,was bcos:
    1) we replaced him with a 3month injured player who was a 50-50 chance to blend even at full fitness.
    2) Gerrard n FT (both on whom we relied heavily upon to win games) were unfit n played very little games 2geda for most part of the season.
As a mata of fact, Alonso wasn’t a key player for us, cos playing him meant reducing our attacking options. His defensive capabilities wasnt (and isn’t) gud enough(kinda like Adam), thats why we often used a five-man midfield with Masch or Lucas as anchor man. Simply bcos Alonso plays for Spain n Madrid, and his departure coincided with our misfortune, u people in ur shallow – minded – ness have decided to idolize him. Apart from his vast experience and a little technical edge, I put it to u that Alonso n Adam are not worlds apart, as a matter of fact, they are very similar. shotpower (check), vision n long passes (check), set pieces (Adam obviously beta), both of dem lack PACE.
Alonso (just like overrated Xavi) lack pace, cannot dribble n cannot run at defences (like Gerrard, Modric, Sneijder, Pastore etc). Simply bcos they play in a league where all u need as a CM is good passing skill and awareness, u make them sound like they are twice as good as they are.
As at the time Rafa was after Barry, he WAS obviously beta than Alonso (yeah… I said that) in the sense that he was more versatile. Barry can play (and has played) in LM, CM, and DM for both club and country. he can mark a lot beta than Alonso and (had the Mancs not snatched him up), he would av bn a good buy.
I know Rafa made a lot of mistakes, but u ppl should stop making the ‘sale of Alonso’ d pinnacle of his misdoings.

For the record, am not a fan of Adam n am still not sure we should sign him.
just tryin to clear some things up. ynwa

    • Shibashis says:

Alonso was overrated…..yeah and that is precisely why among many other one certain Ryan Giggs said he was the player of the season in the whole of EPL in our record breaking season…enough said I think.

    • Shibashis says:

And oh Stevie did mention that Alonso’s departure was a great loss to us, and his understanding with Xabi was one that he relished.

  • Frozen says:

This is indeed a wonderful mindset. Wishin lfc d very best. YNWA

  • Gerrardious says:

@Zhahid: just listen to urself u mentioned Silva n Mata. these guys are wingers and the latter can play as second striker/att mid.
U’re talking about a Kaka who is a shadow of his old self and who’s been unfit for most of the season. The only reason Alonso starts for Madrid is bcos he is the only player who can pass 1dafully (since Guti).
    Passing is his best asset.
Alonso would not start for Tottenham in a 4-4-2 formation (if Modric is fit).

    • zahid says:

Why does he start for SPain then you muppet, theres Xavi, Iniesta Fabregas Alonso is always in the squad. The season we came 2nd Alonso outplayed Gerrard, Gerrard hasn’t been the same since Alonso left. The guys class and if you think Alonso wouldn’t get in the Spurs team your even more stupid, whose to say Modric would get in the Madrid squad ahead of Alonso.

If Alonso was so rubbish do you think a world class manager like Mourinho would carry on playing him, when he can buy most players in the world.

Go back top supporting the scums you nonce!!

  • King Yaweezy says:

Alonso did not arrive at Anfield a world class player! He developed into a star with us. I see Adam developing the other aspects of his game as he matures and blends into our team. If he could have so many assists at a very weak club in d EPL then he’s great cos we have players that would convert half chances! Whether he’s overrated or nt is nt my business all I knw is that I’ve watched him play and he’s good. Kenny and the LFC atmosphere would make him world class!

  • Jason says:

Dalglish cannot win the premier league.

He is too focused on British players and neglected foreign talent, as you can see the players linking to Liverpool are average British players like Adam, Downings, Dann, Barton, which i think is not good enough.

For Wingers, I would like Mata, Sanchez, Hazard, Marin, Honda. Please at least 1 from this lists, preferably 2 to fill in 2 wingers places.

For LB, i would like conetrao or cissokho. Others are rubbish.

For CM, I would like Nasri, Defour, V’ila, Hamsik, Pastore or young sissoko from toulouse, Please get at least one to replace Meireles. Please don’t get Adam.

For striker, I would like to Bojan, torre(mexican)or Benzema.

For CB, I would like subotic, sakho or Mertesacker.

    Then, our team will perfect.

    • David says:

You have no idea. Have you thought that footballers are human beings not robots and if they are all happy and confident going into every game it is more important than a foreign muppet like Balotelli throwing tantrums every 5 minutes thinking he is god.

  • zahid says:

I would love the likes of Mata, Aly Cissokho, Sakho, Yann M’ Villa or Marin and the rest we are linked to.

However the reason we are buying British because they are proven Premier League players and have huge potential for the future. The only foreign players we will sign are Enrique or Clichy because they have PL experience and are proven.

I personally beleive all this money is being spent to get back in the top 4 CL places and if we do the money will be back in the club. SO with this Kenny is making wise choices he isnt taking too many risks hes going with whose proven, and the British players who will probably work harder. Now i hope im wrong because id love to see a few foreign players like the ones i have already mentioned join us, but i trust KK all the way, so all those idiots criticising his motives for buying British players need to get real……YNWA

  • neil says:

god you are all so ignorant to what players we actually need, we need to stabilise the team and add strength in depth, untried foreigners is not the answer, a tried and very competent EPL player like adam is what we need

People in the game, pundits, commentators, other players and even alex ferguson and wenger rate charlie adam, some of the things we have seen from him can be taken to any club, he would merely be an additional player not the new gerrard so dont get over excited about it.

  • Baz says:

    Yard Dog!!! No thanks

  • sandonman says:

If Kenny says he’s good enough then that’ll do for me.
Amount of tubes writing “he should be doing this or doing that”, get f kin real, thinking you know more about how to build a team then King Kenny, ha ha p!ss!ing myself laughing.
    In Kenny we trust

  • Gerrardious says:

Its amazin hw u can write crap just to back up ur pointless point.
I dont no where u got ur stats but d season we finished second,Gerrard scored 15 league goals and was the 3rd top scorer in the league. If I remember well, Alonso was a rotation player (at best) that season having to rotate with Lucas to join Gerrard n Masch in the midfield.
if u weren’t so blind, u’ll notice that ‘every’ time Alonso plays (for Spain n Madrid), its ‘always’ a 5-man midfield. u eva wondered why???
He lacks the flair, dribbling skill n attackin instinct of the modern day playmaker, while not being combative enough to play as a defensive midfielder.
i did not say the guy is crap. in fact if u had not being in a hurry, to prove dat ur IQ is above 26(which I now doubt), u would have noticed that I specified the formation (4-4-2) cos there’s no way any sensible manager will pick him over Modric as preferred playmaker.
At the apex of ur naivity, u said some sh*t about Alonso starting for Club n country. the Spanish style is basically about passin n awareness. these are attributes Alonso easily possesses.
Am sick of havin to reply d*mb a*s*s like u who rate players bcos of d clubs they play. so according to ur idiotic mentality, are u tryin to tell me that Busquet is a beta DM than Essien?? or that Pedro is beta dan Aguero?? or that Valdes is beta dan Reina?? ah
for d record, i av notin against Alonso, n i even stated earlier that he is CLASS. But truth be told, u wouldn’t catch me jumpin for joy if he announced he will be returning next season.
So my friend, think deep n think well before u try to get popular again cos I am more of a SCOUSER than u’ll eva be.
i like guys like u though… u make it interestin
