It is a crucial period in the transfer market for Liverpool Football Club, a second successive season without Champions League football looms and the pre-season targets have changed from title challenges to what now seems an audacious attempt in overhauling the elite top four in England. The financial strength of Manchester City, Chelsea, self sustained Arsenal and of course Manchester United have moved further away from the chasing pack. The rumour of new personnel set to move to Anfield next season has been rife, but the failings of previous regimes means the Reds must now act fast yet diligently to get back into the so called ‘Top Four’.

It is the revitalised and resurgent Liverpool under Kenny Dalglish , who have been linked with many of the Premier League’s young and surprisingly British players in the transfer market. The Reds have had a torrid time in the past decade with over 121 players being bought in by both Gerard Houllier (38) and Rafael Benitez (83). Both of whom chose to turn their attentions to their respective homelands in France and Spain to buy players.

Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson and Blackburn Rovers’ Phil Jones have been highlighted by the British media as Liverpool’s top targets, with a reputed £30m double signing for the pair. Blackpool ’s Charlie Adam has been linked with just about every Premier League club including Liverpool and the Reds continue to monitor Villa’s Ashley Young and Wigan’s James McCarthy . It appears Dalglish intends to restore the British tradition to one of England’s most decorated clubs.

This would come as no surprise to Blackburn Rovers fans, who under Dalglish from 1991-1995 saw the Scot bring in a core contingent of British talent from the likes of England goalkeeper Tim Flowers, David Batty and Chris Sutton. It was a model which would in time prove successful, as Rovers ended an 81 year wait by winning the Premier League in 1995. Liverpool fans must take heart from the club legend’s ability to find, produce and develop players.

The fees are a joke, I just read a story from one site saying how well Henderson played against Liverpool at Anfield this year and how he dominated the midfield.
Luka Modric dominates the midfield in every game that he plays, he cost 16mill 4 million less than Henderson. English players are over rated and I can guarantee Henderson wont be as good as Modric because he doesnt possess the natural ability of Modric.

Sandro (6), VDVaart(8), Lennon(1), Bale(5), Huddlestone (2.5)and Modric (16) 6 regulars from spurs midfield cost £38 million—–£2mill less than Aquilani and Henderson together.

Before you mention age or timing all these spurs deals where done whithin the last 3 years and they range in age from 21-28 years of age with VDV(28) and Modric(25) the 2 oldest.

    Its a joke this market

I think dat’s the best way to put it the market is indeed a joke. If not, why should Carroll cost about 30mill while Suarez costs 20mill. Mayb d answer is ‘it’s d english league,so it has to favour the english man’.

Its all becourse off the homegrown rule! I rather have carrol on the pitch than any lesser player when the rule kicks in! If you wanna win u have to have the best talented players and those do not come not cheap!

  • Frozen says:

Can someone please lecture me. This Jordan h. Is he realy that good? Is he better than Wilshere? I feel liverpool still need established midfielders bcos Jordan just as Carroll seems to be of the future may be also just of the future. Next season may shock liverpool if they don’t apply enough sense in their buyings I’m sure we all know that d Cocktail always taste better I mean having a mixture of players from other countries. And if u want to be like Barca ‘all Spanish’ remember the English boys are not as skillful as the Spanish players. I think this is a known fact. YNWA.

HAHAHAHAHAHA You are a bloody joke mate, Luka Modric, have u seen his stats? For 16m£ he has given you 2 assist and under 3 goals! Thats a bloody discrace calling him top notch! Hendersen has 4 assist and under 3 goals in a lesser side! Thats must meen hes worth 32m£ in he eyes of yours right? The only good buy u have done is van deer vart! Bet your inly a bit yelous of us and that no good players want to play for you, i mean this modric u fancy so much , reacently told the papers he want to play elsewere HAHAHAHAHHAH in your face, dreamer.

Listen against Liverpool Modric scored 1 and assisted Skrtel in the other as we did the double over you. BOTH GAMES HE GOT MOTM.

    Judge stats on MOTM performances

We have no strikers who score, therefore we as a team score less goals which is why Modric hasnt got great assist/goals ratio…..the chances he creates and the strikers miss arent calculated in your stat making…..not every team has a Luis Suarez who takes every chance, we certainly dont.

A quick example we had 30 shots on goal against West Ham, 14 where created by Modric and 3 shots on goal from him thats 17/30 involving Modric……………… and we drew 0-0….which is why its unfair to judge him on how our strikers take the chances, he is a deep lying midfielder

  • Will says:

u dont have strikers u say? Jermain Defoe,Peter Crouch,Roman Pavlyuchenko. And the last one wants to leave your side and is your best goalscorer, no just face the facts, u dont invest anything, players want to leave and you wont evva again play Champions L

  • trey otiri says:

anyway have u heard dis saying dat good players play better when people around them are good as well so dnt eva compare modric and henderson
henderson doesnt have the calibre of players playing around him like modric does nd still performs like that lets watch and see wat becomes of him
