Are we being way too optimistic? No, not this time

What a difference a year makes. Five minutes is a long time in football, but the last 365 days in the life of Liverpool Football Club have been the most tumultuous that I have ever known.

Rewind back to this time last year. Rafa was on his way out to be replaced by King Kenny, sorry, Roy Hodgson. Our big summer signings of Chelsea sub Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic on free transfers gave cause for quiet optimism rather than loud cheering! Roy was brought in to steady the ship, looking at his history with Inter Milan, his last really big club, perhaps you can understand where the board were coming from (cue big Stetsons, Wild West soundtrack and a big helping of cowboy, Mr Hicks and Gillett).

The optimism soon disappeared as our one year sabbatical from the Champion’s League seemed to be looking more permanent as we lurched from one disaster to another. Shocking defeats were matched by shocking performances both on and off the pitch, not least from George and Tom, whom I now firmly believe were Man U fans desperate to ruin our once great institution.

Talk of sheiks coming in with vast millions to outspend the Blue half of Manchester proved to be unfounded and more paper talk ruled out several others before more Americans in John ‘our saviour’ Henry and his Fenway Sports Group came riding in.

I, like so many others were sceptical, but the club was on the brink, lurching from one shocking defeat to another, languishing in the wrong half of the table. Roy exited, and eventually took over at West Brom where his talents were again brought to the fore. Was he ever given a fair chance? Not with King Kenny waiting in the wings, wanting the job. We wanted Kenny, our fan power equals no other reasonable resolution. Once back in the hot seat, despite a loss to ‘them’ the only way was up.

If we keep buying just overrated british players there is no way that we’ll win the title any time soon. We need someone like Aguero or few more foreign gifted players if we have any chance to win the title.

Bekim have you looked at the stats for the players we’ve signed. They actually stack up pretty well.

Where do you suppose we fit in a player like Aguero? Besides, players like Aguero will only sign for us once we’re back in the champions league!

Kenny and Co know what they’re doing, so with comments like “If we keep buying just overrated british players there is no way that we’ll win the title any time soon.” are you saying you don’t trust Kenny and the team?

Show the team and the club your backing. Don’t judge the signings either way until at least mid way through next season and even though I won’t judge them til the end of the season.

Be a part of the positive attitude around the club and get behind them. That’s what they need!!

And which big club have you managed in your time?
LOL!! Another one who just repeats what he hears. Pathetic!! At least come up with something original.

Perfectly said, Chirag. There is reason for optimism at the club. More so this year than in a very long time. The owners are top class and they are the foundation of the club. And nothing works without a foundation. This will be a slow & steady rebuilding of the greatest club in England. That said, our aim is a top four finish & I believe we have the right owners, players & plan to do it. Keep the negativity to a minimum for there is every reason to be optimistic on Merseyside. YNWA

Roy Hodgson caused quiet optimism? Yeah, not from me and all the reds i know. We wanted KK right after Rafa! I new Hodgson would be a disaster. But can’t blame him…Useless board were the problem for hiring over the King in the first place.

  • We Liverpool fans are ( Optimism) the newcomers are almost welcome now it’s our King Kenny Dalglish job to use the ( DIAPASON) For any tittle race YNWA

I continue to hear that we ‘overpaid for average players’, but we haven’t. We have bought players who are tried and tested in the EPL. Yes we could have bought foreign players but there is a risk that they will find it hard to adjust to the EPL, which is risk in my books, if we are get anywhere near a Champions League spot. The players we have bought have filled key positions where we have been caught lacking in the past. They also give Kenny flexibility in terms of strategy and formation. None of the players we have bought are so called ‘big names’ but that’s fine becoz they have a desire to play for LFC. If I take anything from the signings so far is that, for once there is a key strategy at get a ‘TEAM’ at LFC where every player at the club is eager to put on the RED jersey and lay it all on the field for the cause.
