Liverpool Managing Director Ian Ayre has expressed his frustration at the obstacles that are in the way of redeveloping Anfield. He told Sky Sports News:

“I guess the frustration is that we know it’s what the fans would probably prefer largely. We know that it would cost a lot less money than building a new stadium, and we are pretty sure based on the designs that we have seen, we can get to similar capacity that we have seen with a new stadium. So the opportunity is there, but there is an economic challenge. A lot of people think that if you build a new stadium that you make more money, but in our case if you go up to 60,000 you are getting 16,000 more seats – you are not getting 60,000 new seats.”

If the Reds have to build a new stadium at Stanley Park, Ayre believes naming rights for the stadium will be essential:

“It’s about finding the right economic balance and we have gone on record as saying, the one thing that will help with that is a strong naming rights partnership.”

This week it is former LFC WAG Edita Hortova!

Anyone who’s been to Anfield and a world class stadium like Emirates, Bernabeau, Camp Nou etc knows we badly need a new stadium. We have to look past sentiment! You can’t keep wearing the same t-shirt because you scored lots of chicks with it when you were younger. You’ll score nothing now wearing that same faded, torn t-shirt! If we want to be one of the best clubs in the world we have to have one of the best stadiums in the world.
