It’s in everyone’s best interests that he moves on

I’m not usually one for attacking players, of for too heavily preaching a ‘Player X simply isn’t good for club Y’ type of mantra, but when it’s clear that a player isn’t going to get his due at his current club, a move away starts to become more and more appealing. One player in this current position is Liverpool’s Paul Konchesky.

Whilst Konchesky may suffer through his association with Roy Hodgson (given that he was one of his first buys during his short-lived tenure at Anfield) it’s clear that he hasn’t lived up to his £4m price tag. In the same way that Hodgson found a degree of recompense by a move away from Liverpool and success with West Brom, Konchesky may well also find that the grass is greener in newer pastures.

Whilst Konchesky has no control over what his mother posts on her Facebook, if he remains with Liverpool he’ll be forever tarred with the brush of her comments. In case you missed it, Paul’s mother last year updated her Facebook with the following remark: “To all you Liverpool Scouse scum, take a real look at your team. Stop living in the past. The team are crap. Never should have left Fulham.” No apology from Paul or his mum followed.

Yikes. I can’t help but wonder if she was right about one thing however. Should Konchesky have left Fulham? Would he be better suited at a mid-table team? Can he handle the pressure of playing for a club like Liverpool; a club that practically demands success?

I don’t mean any disrespect to Paul and I was a great admirer of his abilities whilst he sported a Fulham shirt, but it appears that if he harbours any hope of resurrecting his career it would be best for him to move clubs.

I don’t mean that Konchesky should seek out a loan move (his time with Nottingham Forrest could hardly be regarded as a complete success after all). Rather, I think it’s time that Konchesky sought out a move to another club, likely a mid-table club who could offer him regular football. There’d also be no shame in stepping down a League and joining a club like Leeds or Southampton who are pushing for a place in the Premier League.

I wish him all the best for the future, but can he realistically get back to his best form with a club like Liverpool?

    Very dignified article, thank you.

I don’t want to be personal but I gutted when he signed for us as I had seen him get ‘skinned’ so many times over the years on MOTD. I also think his signing was indicative of where Hodgson was going to take us (mid-lower table). And on a four year contract too – and we loan out a promising attacking left back (Insua). Absolutely unbelievable.

Anyway, I hope he finds a new club soon and gets himself sorted out. Best of luck to him.

    Feels sorry for the lad.

He’s not a poor player he’s just not a top 4 player. His mother single handled destroyed his Anfield career and she should be feeling incredibally stupid right now. I would welcome him being given a chance to prove himself because theirs nothing like a good underdog story BUT Insua an injured Aurellio and Johnson are all better options. Even Robinson and Flanagan have got as good a shout as him on the left side. Shame but I hope if he does move he finds his form again.

The team is crap acording to his mum? Well judging by some of the comments on many websites all talking about the number of players we need to get rid of maybe she is as much right as wrong! We could easily make up a team made up exclusively of players most of us want to see the back of!
