Lawro: “His passing can be Alonso-esque”

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson believes Charlie Adam will give the Reds something they have been missing since the departure of Xabi Alonso. He wrote in his column for the Daily Mirror:

“The Scot will add progressive passing rather than knocking it sideways. He picks people out in the front three with diagonal balls that leaves you thinking, “How good is that? Adam also gives Liverpool a left-foot delivery, which they previously didn’t have. He will allow Gerrard to play further forward and will get you goals himself from set-pieces and from distance. . . Adam hits people from 45 yards, bang, with a great pass. Talk about turning defence into attack. People might say he is not particularly quick, not a good tackler, but I think in a good team, if you have lots of the ball, you want his kind of player. In a bad team, you may need a tackler-chaser-harrier type, but this is a positive-thinking signing.”

Lawro does however think it is unfair to make a direct comparison with former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso:

“Adam is not Alonso, who was a top, top player, but his passing can be Alonso-esque, which is something Liverpool have missed.”

This week it is former LFC WAG Abigail Clancy!

I don’t doubt Adam’s passing ability, it is amazing, but I do wonder about his short passing tempo.

There’s a good acticle on Sabotage Times about Charlie Adam, really in depth and well written. As much as I value Lawro’s opinion, the ‘Alonso-esque’ comment could be seen coming a mile away.
