One Man Charlie Adam Owes A Great Deal To

|

Tony Parkes was in charge of the club after the departure of Simon Grayson to join Leeds United in December 2008. He impressed as manager, comfortably keeping the team in the Championship with a 16th place finish. However he left the club at the end of the season after being offered a contract he described as ‘unjust by Blackpool Chairman Karl Oyston.

Blackpool now under the management of Holloway forked out a record fee of £500,000 for the Rangers man just before the start of the season in August 2009. It was a huge risk by a small club like Blackpool to pay a record transfer fee but looking back it was a bargain.

The Scottish international who led the team to the Premier League and so nearly kept them up definitely paid back every penny of the transfer a million times over.

The perennial caretaker manager Parkes was replaced by Ian Holloway but he had made his presence felt at the club not least by introducing them to a young Scot named Charlie Adam.

He is now working as a scout for Blackburn Rovers and obviously has an eye for talent so if the Rovers’ supporters see a young Scot joining their club in the next few years, keep an eye on him as you never know he could be the next Charlie Adam.
