Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes that former Newcastle left back Jose Enrique looked the most impressive out of the new signings on display versus Sunderland. He wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo:

“Jose Enrique looked good on his debut and will really strengthen us at the back. He linked up well with Stewart Downing down the left and that partnership between them looks very promising. Enrique looked the pick of the new signings for me.”

Aldridge was surprised however that Jordan Henderson was picked ahead of Dirk Kuyt:

“Jordan Henderson had a quiet game but I felt he was in the wrong position. I know he has played on the right before but he’s much more effective in a central role.I think everyone was surprised to see him get the nod ahead of Dirk Kuyt on the right. It’s a big stage for Henderson and he’s a young lad who will be better for the experience. He’s certainly got ability and is one for the future.”

This week it is former LFC WAG Jennifer Ellison!!

I have to agree with Aldo! Kuyt should have started alongside Suarez and Carroll in a three man Prong attack. Kuyt would have taken the penalty and scored.

Downing, Lucas and Adam in midfield would have been perfect. Kuyt could have moved to right midfield, he is certainly capable as he has shown over the years.

What surprised me was Flanagan chosen ahead of Martin Kelly.

couldn’t have agreed more with your comment i was saying the exact samething and i agree with Aldo, Enrique looks a strong defender and has the ability to go forward with goos crossing.

We still need a centre back and hopefully a back up striker and maybe another winger, but that’s just my opinion, although would be happy with a CB n Striker

It’s nice to see downing and enrigue fits in well but seeing adam play is very disappointing,in my own opinion he’s kicking and fouling players more than playing football, feel like he’s more like what wimbledon used to play, kicking arss with no creative support to the front man.I’m curious and furious with the hefty transfer of carroll and henderson, why on earth we ‘re paying for an average joe who can’t contribute but only excuse like i’ll improved and blah blah blah,we’re paying these guys to win games not improving.Love the club but furious with some of the player we bought and why sell ayala?

Agreed. For all the 100 mim spend, i only think that 22mil on Suarez is the only worth it.

We have wasted 78mil, especially on Carroll, Downing and Henderson.

With 35mil spend on Carroll, we can get Aguero. I wonder why we spend 35mil on this useless player. Not only thta, King Kenny buy another useless Downing just to accomodate Carroll, which in my opinion, we waste 2 players on the pitch. With the 50mil, we can get Aguero & Ayew.

The money spend on Henderson should be saved because we have Aquilani, which are the best playe in pre-season. I wonder why he is not given a squad number. He is more creative compared to Lucas, Henderson, Adam, Downing.

    get lavezzi and bench carol

  • zahid says:

We should get behind all the team now whether we’ve paid over the odds for some players or not. They need our support to go on and achieve a top 4 spot come on lads, i wasn’t a huge fan of some of the signings but i see improvement and if im want them all to be given a chance so should you. We’ve had 2 majorily dissapointing season’s to forget, and this season’s bodes well with optimism when was the last time we’ve felt that?? YNWA

  • 3PHD says:

    Worse player is still Lucas!

    • aylon says:

lets get raheem sterling into the first team he has great ability

      • zahid says:

well said n i do expect him to break through this season, maybe in the Carling cup in the coming weeks

    • zahid says:

No he isn’t he outshon Hennderson on the weekend, he has come on leaps n bounds, if Kenny thought that he wouldn’t be playing n would have been sold. Theres obviously some reason Rafa, Kenny and the Brazil national side play him regularly, he’s a hard worker, loves to play for the club, plays with a smile on his face even through criticism and wants to achieve great things with us……YNWA

    • Hill says:

Not only is Lucas the worst player in the current squad, he’s the worst player in the league, the worst player in the history of LFC and the worst player ever in the premier league. Him topping the premiership in tackles and interceptions by supreme margin, him keeping a passing rate above 90 % and him being the only midfielder not rotated by Brazil are all stupid flukes. Lets face it the truth is that if Lucas played in my sunday league team, he’d still be the worst player, all though the rest of us has bellies that resemble basketballs. Bazinga 🙂

  • dh says:

hill, please shut up. lucus has been one of best players…a fluke is a once of…a whole bloody season…here give us a break and join the boo boys at another club.

  • shiss says:

    Reina
    Jhonson skertl agger enrique
    Gerro mireles adam
    Suarez caroll downing

  • Gurpreet says:

4 mistakes were made vs Sunderland. Flanagan should never have been chosen ahead of Kelly. Kelly is more faster, agile, attack-minded and stronger. Flanagan is just too young and needs to be developed more. Henderson should never have been picked over Kuyt on the right, apart from one attacking run he was absent the whole game. He showed no vision and made too many back passes. Meireles is a good player, but hes not a versatile Steven Gerrard. He cannot play on the wing, but in the center he is more effective and SMARTER. Aquilani should have at-least been on the bench. If he came on you just know he would impact the game somehow with his quality. Maxi is another one that could have done something in the second half. It was the second half without creativity that killed us. However its nothing to worry about because i believe we could have had it wrapped up by the end of the first half if we were “lucky” with decisions and showed more ruthlessness.

  • Iqbal says:

The simple facts all of us must agree is we have moved forward and we definitely are playing better than before. Let’s give our new signings time to blend in and I have no doubt we shall qualify for champions league at least. My predictions is we will surprise a lot of our critics. We have the best Manager and much better squad of players since the new century began.

  • jimmy c says:

Not happy with some liverpool players, flanagan not ready henderson just not good enough, though could improve in the future?carra must be replaced to slow now,but the worst for me is carrol 35 million?did anybody watch aguero for
    city now thats a forward!!

  • Gord says:

You forget that Aguero is on something like £200,000 a week. Which puts his total transfer cost at something like £90 million. Carroll’s total is something like £55 million. Could have paid the fee to sign Aguero but could never afford his wages. If we did offer Aguero that money everyone else at the club would want a raise too, thereby completely destroying wage structure at the club.

  • hardcoreLFC says:

Really dissapointing result from lfc this saturday…K.D and D.C wasted 100+ millions from our new owners pocket for nothing. The team is no better than last. They stupidly thought that by buying premier league players instead of foreign ones the former would gel instantaneously and deliver results without having to undergo a period of adaptation so they stubbornly persisted in going after average at best palyers like downing adam henderson and caroll while disregarding the pleas of fans to go for the likes of mata aguero hazard etc…I hope they realised how wrong they were! Imagine how much damage a partnership of mata suarez and aguero upfront would have done to opposition defenders.I don`t know for you fellow lfc supporters but I think we are still far behind top 4.Hope the future proves me wrong!

  • Fitzy says:

What a load of b*llocks aldo! Enrique was ok, downing looked good and only faded because kenny got his tactics wrong in the second half. Why play a winger (downing)central and an attacking mid (merieles) on the left? That’s what’s puzzling. I agree Henderson shouldnt of started and the fact I don’t think the kid is good enough at the minute, don’t see the point spending £20m on someone we might have to wait 2 or 3 years to mature and get better.. Probably would of cost the same in a year or 2.
People chatting about all these superstars we should get? We can’t get them if were not in the CL. I think lfc will continue to spend with getting Cahill and a winger/striker and then we’ll only have to make 1 or 2 marquee signings once/if were in CL next year

    • lfc4ever says:

then I will ask you one question fitzy. How did the likes of chelsea and mancity do? As far as I know before abramovich n mansour bought those 2 clubs they were NOT in champions league! Stop repeating this nonsense those stupid journalists keep writing please…Liverpool will ALWAYS be an attractive prospect for any player whether or not they play in europe.YNWA

      • mike says:

Man city struggled to attract the top players with out CL football, so had to pay over the odds and even offering substantial transfers and wages many world class players still refused to join with out CL football

Chelsea was in the CL when Abramovich bought them

Liverpool will attract some players but given the choice players in demand like Aguero Mata Hamsic will chose a team all ready in the CL

HISTORY COUNTS FOR NOTHING!!! its what matters now and in the immediate future that will attract the top players ,players want fame and trophy’s not look at old movies of when the team they play for won things

  • kibrom says:

nobody has seen the resposible person for our weakness in our defence, carragher.i still dont believe that carragher should be in our starting eleven.he can’t pass or controll a ball. the only defender in the premier league that wont go to receive a cross for a corna kick.
