Assessing the strength of LFC’s squad for the upcoming season

|

On the right side of midfield we have Maxi Rodriguez, Jordan Henderson and perhaps to a lesser extent this season, Dirk Kuyt. When Henderson was first signed, Liverpool fans were left puzzled considering that he’s primarily a central midfielder and we were also looking to sign Charlie Adam. What we needed was more players for the wing positions and I believe that with our central midfield being so congested this season, Henderson will mainly be used out on the right side of midfield where he excelled for Sunderland. In time I can see him running our central midfield as well as being an important player for England but for the near future his services will be most needed on Liverpool’s right wing.

Up front Liverpool have got Andy Carroll, who I expect to be a huge success for club and country in future, and of course we have the man all eyes will be on during Liverpool’s matches this season, Luis Suarez. When I watched the Uruguayan dominate this summer’s Copa America, all I could think was ‘thank God this man plays for Liverpool’. Suarez is simply mesmeric at times and the most exciting thing is we haven’t even seen the best of him yet.

Along with our deadly duo I expect Dirk Kuyt to be shifted from his usual right midfield role to play up front more as back up option while David Ngog isn’t the worst 4th choice striker a club could have. N’gog seems likely to depart this summer though, and if there’s one position we could still fill, I believe it’s that final back up striker position. Another promising young forward with plenty of pace would be ideal, but I wouldn’t call that signing an absolute necessity when you consider how many talented attacking players Liverpool possess.

I’m not going to get carried away by claiming this is our year or anything like that but I will say that I’m impressed with how Liverpool’s squad is shaping up for the season ahead and I believe this is definitely the strongest we’ve been since the 2008/2009 season. There’s no doubt that Liverpool’s first XI can compete with any team in the Premiership, but it’s nice to know that in the event of any injuries to key players, we now have top quality replacements ready to step in and do a job when needed.

While I agree with the majority of this article , there is surely no point in spending all these millions and relying on the four CB’S mentioned .

In the Premiership the choice should be any two from Agger , Skrtel and one other . Carragher should be senior back-up (by the way , I am JC’S biggest fan) .

Fortunately , Kenny feels the same way as the Tony Pulis press conference this morning shows .

We have quality competition for places all around the team except CB . Kelly and Wilson are some time away from being first choice , though they will both become fine players .
