Coyle: The difference between the Reds now and a year ago

Bolton manager Owen Coyle believes Liverpool have undergone a massive transformation under Kenny Dalglish:

“On New Year’s Day they only beat us with an offside injury-time goal. Joe Cole was offside, stood on the line. If you want to compare Liverpool today with back then, they look a very good side. Offensively, they look like they can score goals. Having said that, if you gave me £110m I am sure I would have a team that look dangerous every time they walk on to the park. Kenny has done that. He has signed some good players, youthful players who are going to grow and get better “They are on an upward spiral and good luck to them but, as I said before, finance plays a huge part in football.”

Liverpool came out convincing 3-1 winners against Bolton on Saturday evening.

forgot the mention the over 60m sales we did…but obviously that won’t make headlines against Liverpool 🙂

I doubt he’d have a team playing pass and move so fluently. Mourinho didn’t so what makes him think he could. This is just the beginning. Bolton created absolutely nothing. If it wasn’t for Carras error we’d have another clean sheet.

i dont understand why they show so much disrespect for liverpool. has he ever being able to beat liverpool? even with the dross woy hudgson he couldnot win. the sky reporters instead of praising liverpool for an outstanding performance were claiming that bolton was poor, really? we made them poor period! lucas now plays with the aggression required in the premier league. i would be surprised if we dont win the league!

I’m excited by what I’ve seen from Liverpool so far and I wouldn’t be surprised to see us win OUR league this year. I don’t count united,Chelsea, city in our league but to come 4th would be as good as winning the league. Hopefully we can become the new arsenal and comfortably finish 4th every year but unable to compete financially with the super rich. That would be a realistic target.

CAN NOT agree with lowering our sights, aim for the top, MUST aim for the top. That is what we need, no more settling for less, aim for the top and see where that gets us. Feel the change.

I don’t know where to start with this one. StonyK stop smoking that stuff it is wrecking your brain.

It’s beside the point, but Joe Cole was not offside when he scored back on new year’s day – the ball reached him via a Bolton defender, not maxi. Surprised Coyle is happy to perpetuate this misunderstanding – he must have watched the video of the game.

For the record;I’ve supported LFC since 1952!but I know exactly where Owen Colye is coming from!THE FACTS ARE THAT – ALL the clubs that are able to spend big money are playing better football because they can afford better players – it’s just common sense! and I am sure Coyle and a number of other managers would prove themselves given the opportunity with any one of the most financial clubs. The premiership is full of managers who would do well if they were in charge of any of the top four clubs! I also wonder just how well the top four clubs managers would perform at a lesser financial club!( I wonder how Ferguson,AVB,Mancini,Mourinho Etc would perform managing some of the less financial clubs???).They are only where they are because of being able to sign the best players in the world, and that is because the clubs they have managed have been able to afford the top players? Don’t knock Owen Coyle for speaking the truth!

  • DaveWestAus says:

To prove my point, take a look at the top of the premiership right now,the FOUR BIG SPENDERS ARE UP THERE ALREADY !!!

  • Drew says:

Where is Sunderland then? They’ve bought more players than any other team in PL. And good players as well. Money does help, I agree, but it’s not just money. I think we’ve paid too much for a couple of players but we’ve also found a few really good deals. And when Sebastian Coates arrives with his £7 mil pricetag we will have made one of the best signings of the summer. Money helps but it doesn’t make you top 4 club.
