Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson believes that Kenny Dalglish has made the right choices in the transfer market to strengthen the depth of the Reds squad. He wrote in his column for the BBC:

“Questions have been asked about the size of the transfer fees paid by the club and the systems and formations that might be employed by Dalglish but I think the bottom line is that Liverpool are on the way towards establishing the squad strength to get back in the top four. This will have been Dalglish’s top priority.”

Lawro believes that Jordan Henderson especially will merit his £16m price tag:

“With 21-year-old midfielder Henderson, they are buying masses of potential, even though they paid Sunderland £16m for a player whose form faded in the second half of last season. As I understand it, the club’s owners, the Fenway Sports Group, are happy to splash the cash on a player if they get a return for their money and if there is the possibility of good sell-on value. Henderson, an England international, will grow as a player and grow into the club so could be worth £30m in a couple of years. Yes, we are talking potential but Dalglish is a shrewd judge and has clearly seen something he likes very much. All the players Liverpool have signed have yet to reach their peak and their arrival will really up the ante in the dressing room, which is exactly what Dalglish will have wanted.”

This week it is former Miss World and LFC fan Rosanna Davison!!

i completely agree with wat lawro has said…every one is critisizing the deal of henderson but if u checj thr stats hes has created more goal scoring oppourtunities thn luka modric …n hes only 21 so if he flops fr a year or 2 n we decide to get rid of him we can still make 10-15 mil of him…n if he shines then he will be like a 30 mil player in 2-3 yers…

    • zahid says:

if he flops we can still get 10-15mill?????? yeah right, like we have managed to get anything for Aquilani if we do it will be less then 10 mill. If your a flop your more likely to go for alot less then you were bought for.

Im not saying Hennderson is going to be a flop mind

      • Eighty says:

I disagree. Even if we look to replace him a couple of years, due to the fact he’s an English player, we should get 10-15m for him.

I don’t think we will though, cos I think he’ll be boss 🙂

    Hopefully not due to inflation.

  • man says:

    if henderson was touching a 25 million rate bar…. sold him… make a money… gimme..gimme..gimmie…

  • Badd says:

Bet u, Henderson will offer nothing but rubbish and his value will go down as low as 1 mil. In the first place Dalglish was wrong and now we just realize that the weakest part of Dalglish is in searching a new player with the optimum prize

What happened to our club?We where LIVERPOOL but people like u just turn us into all the other clubs.Go support a rich club and leave our little club alone i am sure king kenny will manage to keep us ticking over YNWA

Im sure with all the playing and coaching experiences that King Kenny has combined with Damien Comoli’s statistics on buying players, they can bring is good buys, value for money. We cant judge a book by its cover. We have to sit back and watch them play some games to realize what Kenny saw in them that took us some time to notice. No managers has had a 100% successful buy, there are flops. As Kenny said buying players does not guarantee you success and there will never be success if you don’t invest.

i don’t understand..r we now buying young players, train them, make them become good n then get the highest price for them?
are we trying to be arsenal? in a few years they will be like west ham…do we want to follow that?

    • Lfc4LifeR says:

Mate only comparison with arsenal I can think of is Francis Jeffers lol

Though I hope I’m wrong of course 🙂

  • Lfc4LifeR says:

He so good we were fighting all the top teams for his signature :/

  • Lfc4LifeR says:

Btw does anyone know who our marquee signing will be?

    Coz I’m still waiting?

  • S. Clarke says:

No marque signings, just the right players. Leave the marque signings to the likes of Mansour City and the Russian mafia’s lot.

  • MyReds says:

Once Suarezis is back he will lift the whole squad up by a level. With the current one touch passing style Aquilani is also important. Forget about G8.

  • philC says:

My take on why KK bought most British players rather than overseas players….it’s a stepping stone to get to the champms league coz most British players still identity LFC as a massive clubs regardless of us being in the champs league or not. That’s phase 1. Also it’s the Torres factor: most overseas so call superstars expectation are much higher due to the fact that they’re leaving their home country in search of success. Phase 2 next season, it will be different once we get to champs league by then not only we’ll have quality in depths but also the appeal champ league to lure overseas superstars. The guys Kenny bought this summer arent great but their good enough yo get us to top 4

Lawro is off his rocker, £20m for Henderson was total madness!
If he does improve who will pay £30m for him anyway?
if he stagnates Liverpool will be lucky to get £5/7m for him and that’s being generous because he is probably on a huge contract!
Can Kenny seriously think that Liverpool have a better squad than Arsenal, Spurs, UTD, City and Chelsea even after spending £100m?
That is with Arsenal, spurs Chelsea not entering the market just yet either.

    • mike says:

100% agree with what you wrote ,who do liverpool hope to displace from the top 4 and how ?

  • whufc says:

Just looking at this post I don’t agree he will be worth 30 million I think you payed over the odds considering man utd got young for around the same sort of money albeit he is older, when I was younger I was in the same team as Jonjo I personally think he is better than Spearing technically I’d like to see him given more a chance but can’t see it happening with henderson and adam arriving

  • Max says:

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa. Good one Lawro! Of course if someone else had bought him it would have been ‘It seems an awful lot of money for someone still relatively unproven at the top level’ or ‘that’s a big gamble on someone unproven at top level’. Expected bias once again, how can the BBC employ someone who is so one-eyed to a specific club is beyond me 🙁
