Talking to Liverpoolfc.tv, Liverpool right back Martin Kelly talked about his latest hamstring injury problem and how he is trying to prevent more lengthy layoffs:

“I’ve done quite a lot of work over the last six months. Touch wood this will be the last. It’s all part of football. You’re going to get injuries. This is just a slight injury – no more than two weeks. It should be fine after that, injuries won’t trouble me. It’s just an unlucky time in the game for me.”

Let’s hope that Kelly is just going through an unlucky spell with injuries. It is difficult to believe that the right back is only 21 years of age with his strength, power and height all evident when playing for the Reds’ senior team. I remember Steven Gerrard having the same amount of problems during his early years too, and he managed to persevere through them to play a great deal many matches for the Reds, and hopefully Kelly’s bad luck with hamstring injuries is just that, bad luck, rather than anything more concerning.

As he says, he is working with the club’s sports science and medical team to improve his fitness, stamina and strength, and with the sports scientists having specific fitness programmes to strengthen particular parts of the body which are weakest, hopefully Kelly’s hamstrings should be less of a concern in the near future.
