A Position That Urgently Needs To Be Addressed

|

With a lengthy ban looming for Luis Suarez, one thing that is now blatantly obvious is the lack of reliable strikers Liverpool have at their disposal. When asked about potential January signings, Kenny Dalglish unsurprisingly kept his cards close to his chest, but did hint that he was satisfied with his current striking options. He pointed to the fact that Liverpool have been highly unlucky in most games this season and that with the number of chances being created, it’s only a matter of time before the reds truly give someone a thrashing.

Now I definitely agree with his point about how unlucky Liverpool have been this season. They have managed to hit the bar an amazing 17 times and certainly deserve to be higher up the table than they currently are. Some would just dismiss it as a bit of bad luck but my question is how much time should go by before something is done to address the problem? Liverpool have been unlucky yes but we’re almost at the halfway mark for the season and we’re still waiting for our luck to change on the goal scoring front.

The 0-0 draw against Wigan typified Liverpool’s season; they at times showed brilliant bits of play and created enough chances to finish the game off but struggled to actually put it in the net. I have felt for a while like Liverpool really do need to add another top striker to their ranks and I’m hoping that Kenny Dalglish uses the January transfer window to upgrade our striking department. Some have mentioned that another creative player is needed but I don’t necessarily see it that way. The team have been creating chances for fun this season and the only let down has been the actual finishing from particular players.

It’s quite obvious to me that Liverpool need at least one more player who can be relied upon to stick the ball in the net on a consistent basis and I’m hoping that Kenny sees it that way too. It would be a nightmare if the entire transfer window passed by and we didn’t recruit a forward to help add more goals.

Overall, I would say that I’m very satisfied with Liverpool’s squad. We have the best defence in the league and our midfielders have shown that they can be trusted to supply the forwards with plenty of goal scoring chances. The only thing the team is missing is a clinical striker to help improve our low tally of 20 league goals so far, and with our main man soon to be missing for a long time, it is crucial that a new addition is brought in for cover.

Craig Bellamy is a top player but at his age and with his fitness history, he needs to be managed carefully by Kenny Dalglish while Dirk Kuyt has usually been fairly reliable but this season seems to be desperately low on confidence in front of goal. It is well documented that Andy Carroll is very low on confidence too, and although I still believe he will come good eventually, I wouldn’t want us to be in a position where he is the only striking option we have to come off the bench.

It is for these reasons that we must buy a striker in the January transfer window. He doesn’t need to be the most skilful player in the world or the strongest; he just needs to be a man that can be relied upon whenever he’s one on one with the opposition goalkeeper. In an ideal world, the striker we sign should preferably have some decent pace and most importantly should be someone who can work well with Suarez to form a promising partnership.

We will have to wait and see if Kenny feels that another striker is needed next month. For me the answer is pretty obvious. We’ve struggled for goals even whilst having the brilliant Luis Suarez in the team, it worries me to think of how we’d cope in front of goal when the Uruguayan is banned. For Liverpool to regain a place in the Champions League, they will no doubt have to become a more clinical unit. I can now only hope that a top class striker is bought by Dalglish and Comolli in January, because failure to do so could leave us feeling quite regretful come the end of the season.

I do wish people would forget all this , “deserve to be” and “if only…” Let’s live in the REAL WORLD for a change.

Such negativity, especially at this time if year, a time of hope and cheer. True, you can really ‘what if’ ’til you’re blue (no pun intended) but it doesn’t help the team. Neither does panic purchasing a striker before we know what amount if time Suarez will be out on sanction. It’s time for the players we have step up and prove their worth. I have been a supporter of Kuyt but believe his lack of consistant playing time has hurt his form, he needs to improve. Carroll is the biggest question mark and Dalglish must now work on making the slight adjustments to the team to use the strengths Carroll exhibited at Newcastle and attracted LFC’s attention in the first place. Maxi is a first class poacher and must be considered as well.

Shaqiri is one player that I belive must be considered. His age and apparent talent should make him somone that FSG and Comolli would seriously consider and would not be a panic purchase. Unfortunately many other teams are sniffing around as well, if we wait on this one it might be a real regret.

Go all out to try and sign Klaas Jan Huntelaar, worst season in entire career was his first and only season at ac Milan who used him mostly as a sub and frequently played him out wide in a front 3 instead of in the middle (where we need him for) and still managed one goal in every three (sometimes very short) appearances. The guy has been prolific in 4 of europes top leagues there is a good chance he would be for us too. Oh and he has publicly stated his desire to play in the premier league too.

if we have to sign strikers then we have to sign big name like tevez, higuain, benzema but they are all will cost us high salary and transfer fee. why dont we look to south america players that dont have experience at europe such as lucas moura, leandro damiao, etc.
    Do we have scouts??

  • I do agree with all the ideas you have offered in your post. They’re very convincing and will definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are too quick for newbies. May just you please prolong them a little from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.
