A Year On, Did The Reds Dive In Too Quickly For Carroll?

A huge £35 Million was spent to bring Andy Carroll to Liverpool but he’s failed to show his worth since then, being outshone by Luis Suarez and spending most of his time sat on the bench. Even from the bench he fails to make an impact and he is overlooked by manager Kenny Dalglish.

Despite this he is set to pick up a massive £150,000 loyalty bonus in the new year after negotiating the deal last summer that will see him net bonuses in each year of his contract. Not bad when you’ve only made 13 starts since moving from Newcastle. Carroll is on a basic $60,000 a week deal but his contract includes an additional £10,000 for his image rights and £5,000 for each appearance he makes. A salary increase is also entitled if he plays over 60% of Liverpool’s matches this year, which is looking unlikely at the moment. The question is, does Carroll really deserve all this and does he pay it back to the club through great performances?

The answer is simply no. He’s got his name on the scoresheet only 5 times since his move last January, his year has been affected by injuries that will always bring down morale and form but Carroll has shown no sign that he’s going to find the form that saw him grace St. James Park. Carroll had scored 11 times in 19 appearances for Newcastle last season before Liverpool bit the bullet and swung in to grab his signature.

The fee was well over what it should of been, I questioned it at the time and I’ve questioned it ever since. Carroll had only just begun to introduce himself to top flight English football and despite having a great record at Newcastle it was unclear how much potential he had.

Well done… quit saying what everyone else is saying and give him some time… the fact is thats a signed contract and its not going to change just because you get bit keyboard happy and write about. Leave him to it and he may or may not come good. Writing about it wont change a thing and certainly won’t make him better.

Carrolline is utter garbage.. and the sooner we are rid of that piece of trash the sooner we can bring in someone with actual talent, and not an overrated Brit.. I mean players with real talent.. not just overhyped media talent..

Everyone relax already. He’ll come good. I don’t hear anybody complaining about Suarez only having 5 goals and he plays almost every minute of every game. Sturridge has 8 and Grant holt has 9 which is half of all the goals we scored so far. Relax.

… and Jordi Gomez, a midfielder at Wigan just scored his fourth.

As poor as his form has been he’s still scored more goals than Torres.
