LIVERPOOL Football Club appear to have won the race to sign Turkish international, Nuri Sahin, from Real Madrid. According to BBC Sport, the Reds are confident that Sahin will put pen to paper on a loan deal within the next 24 hours. Liverpool have apparently beaten Arsenal to the capture of the midfielder by offering to cover more of his wages. The report goes on to say that the deal will include an option to sign Sahin for £14m at the end of the one year loan period.

Landing Sahin would be a major coup for Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers, with Arsenal and Tottenham both known to have had serious interest in the former Dortmund man. It had appeared that the chance of a deal to bring Sahin to Anfield had gone, with the player publically announcing his desire to join the London club, but talks between the two clubs stalled and Liverpool have now agreed terms with Real Madrid, with reports claiming the player’s agent visited Merseyside on Wednesday to finalize the deal.

Sahin failed to have an impact in his first season at the Bernabeu, appearing in just four la Liga games for Jose Mourinho’s side; however, in his previous season Sahin was an integral part of the Borussia Dortmund side that won the Bundesliga title. Sahin was voted Player of the Season in Germany’s top division in 2010/11 and made 33 league appearances, notching up 7 goals and providing eight more for his team-mates.

At just 23, Sahin has made 31 appearances for his country and is also the youngest player to have ever represented and scored for Turkey.

Liverpool beat Hearts 0-1 in the first leg of their Europa League play-off on Thursday evening, an own goal providing the Reds with the desired away result. After the match Brendan Rodgers was asked about the potential arrival of Nuri Sahin; he seemed to confirm it, saying:

“Hopefully in the next 24 hours we’ll get some confirmation, it’s quite far [along]. He’s a very good footballer.”

So how does he fit into our system ? Is it Lucas Allen and gerrard as the 3 midfielders? Or is it Lucas Allen sahin, with gerrard behind 2 strikers- Suarez and Borini ? Certainly a great addition and gives us different options because we either play gerrard further forward and wont play wide forwards cutting inside, or it’s 3 in midfield from Lucas, Allen, gerrard and sahin with the wide forwards

Allen was totally unnecassary.Aany top manager would have had sahin ahead of allen without any second thought. sahin’s had more than one good season to speak of, and winning ‘player of the year in bundesliga at just 21 should speak volumes of his talents. Allen had one good season and we decide to overpay for him, it does reflect on the the standard of the manager.

  • good addition if he ( Sahin )arrives Anfield but who is Rodgers going to drop to bench and very important Lfc need a top goal finisher who can give the goals when ever he is in position to score though a striker can’t score all the chances he got but out of 3 chances he can deliver one,so it is better for Rodgers to bring in a top finisher to do the damage up front.
