FIRSTLY, in-bound at Anfield, and rumours still persist that Barcelona winger Cristian Tello could make a loan switch to the club, with Spanish expert Guillem Balague revealing on Twitter that the Reds are favourite to land the youngster.

The one stumbling block is that Tello is not yet convinced a move abroad at this stage is the right choice, as Atletico Madrid wait in the wings.

Balague also revealed that Liverpool think ‘they have done enough to convince Sahin’ to make the switch to Anfield, with Spanish paper AS also reporting that former Red Xabi Alonso has been involved in attempting to persuade the Turkish midfielder to head to Merseyside, a move which he feels will benefit his career.

Exit-wise, and in the face of tremendous speculation that he is about to leave the club, Daniel Agger has reiterated his desire to stay with the Reds – but admits it is out of his hands.

Barcelona and Manchester City were said to be chasing the Danish centre-back with the Premier League champions the only club to launch a formal bid – a bid which was dismissed by Liverpool. However, the Reds appeared to leave the door open for an increased offer for the player when manager Brendan Rodgers admitted that ‘every player has his price’, in the face of City’s interest.

Rodgers then looked to distance himself from any non-footballing decision that may take place by insisting that Daniel Agger is a player he wishes to keep, but noises coming out of the club still suggest that Agger could leave – if the right offer is submitted. A decision that could be taken in light of the player’s injury-chequered career.

It is commendable then, that in this day and age of footballing mercenary, Agger has insisted he wishes to remain at Anfield, despite interest from the Premier League champions, and a move that would no doubt see his wages dramatically increase:

“I would prefer to stay but that decision is not up to me at the moment.

“I can’t imagine playing for other clubs in England. But, you never know if the club prefers to sell me.

“But I haven’t changed my mind on the subject. Sometimes you can end up in a position where it’s not your decision.

“I don’t want to be somewhere I am not wanted but I would prefer if they want me to stay.”

Agger, who recently got the letters ‘YNWA’ tattooed on his hand, has 2 years remaining on his Anfield contract, as does first-choice defensive partner Martin Skrtel, who the Reds hope will agree terms to an improved 4-year contract that has been offered.

It is imperative for FSG, Ian Ayre, and Brendan Rodgers to understand that when you are trying to build long-term in any kind of business then you do not offload your most valuable assets! As FSG and Ian Ayre wish to balance the books then they should offload flop players with high wages as Joe Cole and Andy Carroll. As you can develop a title contender team you need to recruit/keep your world class players – Pepe Reina, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger, Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez – and add a few new talented ones that have the potentials to become in the near future world class players. Additionally, it will be an unforgivable mistake by them to weaken LFC and strength one of our main rivals as they also did by selling Fernando Torres to Chelsea. I hope they get the message!

Agreed. I don’t understand how Joe Cole has remained, considering the wages he’s on. Doni too. Ian Ayre is in Spain at the moment working on the Sahin and Tello deals, which mean we wouldn’t need to sell Agger to get A. Johnson on loan, so hopefully Agger will get a new contract soon. I’m not too sure if Torres has strengthened Chelsea though, although I’m sure he’ll come good if given the chance, but it looks like he might not be 1st choice again.

I’d be extremely happy if we landed both Sahin and Tello as I believe we’d then have enough numbers of talented players to compete in four competitions.

Xabi trying to convince tello, bellamy convinced allen to join us. Cole told hazard to go to chelsea…

Woe betide FSG if Agger is sold to Citeh – what further proof would be required that it’s only the mighty dollar that counts not heart and commitment and loyalty – whatever vestiges of the old club that remain would be stretched to breaking point especially if this leads to more mediocrity in mid table….

If 100 000 million wz given to BR.. With good players surrounding br but it fell on the wrong people

  • karlitl says:

Dagger is integral to our defence,is a loyal red, suits Rodgers system & our younger defenders can learn loyalty & skills from him & carra! He shouldn’t be sold, would be a mistake & send wrong message to players thinking of joining the Reds!

  • LD says:

Hw has to stay. I think BR was saying that he want to keep Dagger. But if someone comes in witha big offer, that would also sway the player (wages) then he would sell. Looks like it will not happen. Dagger will stay. He wants to be Red, and BR wants to keep him.

    Out:
    kuyt-1m,90k/week(w)
    maxi-80k/w
    bellamy-90k/w
    fabio-40k/w
Aquilani-5.5m(as he was on loan last season salary is not added )
    Total-6.5m,300k/w(15.6m/year)>>22.1m/year
    In:
    Borini-8m,40k/w
    allen-15m,40k/w
    Total-23m,80k/w(4.16m/year)>>27.16m/year

FSG has only invested 5m (on yearly basis) !!!
So i can not see any point in selling Agger unless they want to make hefty profit.

We can’t just do without his overlapping, and thundreous attacking shooting abillities. I hope he stay,s

  • Red4Life says:

I don’t quite see how sahin will help us with the amount of midfielders we already have. he wants to move away for first team, but would he get that? I always thought of a midfield of lucas, gerrard and allen. so unless we want to put our new 15mil man on the bench where would he go? as for tello, he be good for cups and that but some may disagree here, but downing should start I personally think he has done well in pre season. also why we no give the likes of Pachecho, Suso game time- they’re quality.
