European comments making fans yearn for Rafa’s return?

Rafa LFCAFTER showing signs of improvement Brendan Rodgers’s Liverpool side have slowly but surely fallen off.

Some of the more cynical fans may say they knew this day was fast approaching but I’m not sure many would’ve predicted goalless draws to West Ham and Reading.

The run in to the end of the season was supposed to be the easy part, with the schedule lightening up and a Liverpool side that finally seemed to be clicking. But then that all came crashing down.

Much has been made about the manager’s comments on Europe, and missing out. For me, this has changed my whole opinion of the man. Everyone is entitled to their own views but some views should be kept to oneself. As the manager of one of the most illustrious clubs in Europe I’m not sure Rodgers could have said anything more foolish, save for proclaiming Everton his favourite team.

The fans of Liverpool deserve better and it’s on the manager to lead them in the right direction and rally them around the team and a common goal. However, it appears that Brendan Rodgers does not share the same goal as the Liverpool faithful. Enter Rafa Benitez.

The Spaniards comments have been dissected almost every day since they were made and Brendan Rodgers was even compelled to state that he wasn’t worried about losing his job to Rafa.

For most of the season I was preaching patience, saying that Rodgers needed time to build his squad and implement his plan but after his recent comments I am not so sure I still feel the same way.

It isn’t certain that Rafa would bring instant success to Liverpool but he at least is a man who understands the Liverpool way. He understands the fans and the tradition and what the club should achieve. He was there in Istanbul when Liverpool raised the Champions League trophy after a memorable night. He knows how to win and he’s proven that he is capable.

It is unlikely that FSG will make a change to a man they skipped over last year but perhaps a change is necessary.

Brendan Rodgers has had his time and he hasn’t made good use of it. Couple that with, what in my view are disgraceful comments, and the circumstances are ripe for a change.

Bring Rafa home . 20 times better than Rodgers

    • Gj says:

Give Rodgers another transfer window or two and the whole of next season. Then judge. We are Liverpool fans.

He was hampered in the summer, Allen and Borini have been injured and the former played out of position to cover Lucas* on top of needing surgery and being a 22yr old LFC pivot.

Weren’t those 2 signings in January tasty though?! Averaging out at 10m a pop, manageable wages, young..

Let us hold the handwringing for now and see where we are this time next year.

      * Whose absence at the start of this season was akin to him absence at the end of last, (in terms of clean sheets, interceptions, pressing, tackles, distribution, covering..)

      • Dave says:

You are mad. Another season of rodgers could finish us

You are wrong too. Allen has missed only the last 4 games .Borini has mostly been injured but that is a good thing .he is awful

Rodgers has been amazingly lucky with injuries. No other Liverpool manager has ever had a season with all his best players injury free

No excuses for him..he is just a awful awful manager

      • Tan says:

Allen was not out of position.silly excuses must stop
        Rodgers is no good

      • mario says:

I cant imagine having Allen fully fit n BR next season. BR the blagger on borrowed time!

In Rafa we trust In Rodgers we rust.

  • Erin says:

Few would have predicted goalless draws! True .
However, I don’t think we have made progress this season. 12 wins out of 33 games makes grim reading. The stats don’t back up progress.
If I was the owner, I would ask mr Rogers for another 180 page dossier detailing progress made and look for statistical data. I would also quiz him on his transfer plans. If, he mentions one more Swansea player. Tell him he is sacked. 28 million spent and no lesson learned.
As for Rafa…if only the owners had the courage to appoint him. If only. We saw progress in 5 out if 6 seasons. Untill the club became property if RBS and all the rumours about the club being in deep sh!t were confirmed. Any fans who think that didn’t effect the team, need their head checked out. Rafa is 10 times the manger Rogers will ever be, has the experience and know how.

  • Erin says:

Plus , the attitude of the managers couldn’t be further apart. Interviewer, ” rafa CL football of trophy?”
Answer, ” both of them, one game at a time.”
Interviewer, ” Europa league this season mr Rogers? ” nah, I’ll do us a favour not to be in it.
Take that to the dressing room, and motivate your players!!!!

  • Stevie G (Walton) says:

I have to agree with the article. Rafa is ten times the manager that Rodgers is and FSG made a huge mistake no appointing him!! In fact, they should have sacked Hodgson before he had a chance to sign the crap he did and re-appointed Rafa immediately. Purslow and the other guy may have saved Liverpool from H&G but they put us on a bum steer soon after! The Manc-loving Press were delighted when Rafa lost his Liverpool job because they really feared he was going to take us to the top and with FSG’s backing we would be top of the pile again. Oh well! Probably another 2 years of bullsh!t from Rodgers before they realise they should have appointed Rafa in the first place. But will they be big enough to admit their mistake!?

  • Magic man says:

All true liverpool fans want rafa back, so for ffs FSG wake up and listen. YNWA

  • Rhys says:

I hate that one season is deemed as a manager ‘having his time’.

    • Erin says:

Agreed! One season is not enough but we need to see progress. So far, there isn’t. Rogers thinks is a job well done because he thinks like a mid table manager. As for next season, you can look forward to Ashley Williams and more Swansea signings. Plus, lots of rest with no European football and excellent perfomancies by goalkeepers/defenders and co…for the opposition

  • The boys pen says:

Get off Rodgers back and give him a chance in his first season.rafa was making plenty of errors in his final season

    • stevieG says:

Rodgers is making continual errors every day …totally clueless and out of his depth

  • rouman says:

fsg…be men…you made a mistake with rodgers, bring back rafa….brendon might be good in 5 years…but rafa has it all now….we have all had enough of rodgers….kenny is a legend you sacked him?? he was better than brendon……

  • Geraint says:

Rodgers in charge getover it give him time. Liverpool would be bankrupt if rafa comes back as buying avarege players like he did last time in charge for a lot of money aqulanie £20 m+ keane £18m need i say more? He won the champions leauge yes with houllier’s team!!!

    • stevieG says:

Lol..Liverpool will never recover from another year of Rodgers…and Rodgers has bought rubbish….rafa is much better

    • Erin says:

Won the CL with hullier’s teams! Very funny. If anything , it makes winning it remarkable. Did you know we reached the final 2 years later?
On to BR. Why can’t he bring progress with ‘someone else’s team ?

    • enuma elish says:

you are doing rogers no favours with talking absolute rubbish like that.Rafa had us feared around Europe , champions x 1, champs league semi final x2 , champs league semi finals x3 , and quarter final x4, ..no.1 in europe.. FA cup x1,2 domestic finals x2. highest points total in prem league history and the old rivalry with the mancs relevant again..so annoying when revisionists are selective with the facts .
He got 6 years and no backroom support or policy consistancy .xenophobic media ..how often did you hear “benitez’s zonal marking is the problem”..yet Reina won golden gloves 3 times I believe..how many Know that Rogers employs zonal marking?..never mentioned ,but our defence is weaker than last year ! or how about squad rotation that every top club now uses .. learn your history .

      • Mark Henry says:

At last someone who knows what they are talking about. Enuma Elish Nuff respect.

    • Mark Henry says:

Geraint, you haven’t a clue about football, & decent managers, keep quiet please.

    • Pnderito says:

Stop being silly. Why didnt houllier win his so called team. RAFA is a genious and he got the best out of them!

  • Fira120 says:

” Rodgers in charge getover it give him time. Liverpool would be bankrupt if rafa comes back as buying avarege players like he did last time in charge for a lot of money aqulanie £20 m+ keane £18m need i say more? He won the champions leauge yes with houllier’s team!!! ”

I would take Aquillani over the “welsh Xavi” any day of the week !

Rodgers has blagged his way into the job, he is not a WINNER !

  • wes says:

go support rafa at chelski you plastic fans. liverpool are improving, if you cant see that you blind. the writer of the story is a disgrace too.

    • Ed says:

lol . deluded . grow up kid

      • Gj says:

        Why is he deluded?

We were in Europe this season only because of our Cup success. As our league finish showed we have no divine right to a top 4/5 finish.

This season has at least shown us destroying teams, giving other, stronger ones a proper game, scoring 2nd most goals in the league and playing very attractive football.

Coutinho and Sturridge have been good, low cost/wage buys. Borini and Allen have been injured and/or played in covering positions, so hardly written off yet.

How about allowing another transfer window (January was good, right?) and another full season before you write off one of the most promising and sought after managers in English football. Before he joined us and became * obviously.

    • Sargio says:

Thank god, someone with a bit of sense. 1 season the man has had. Were playing the best football in the league at times. Some sloppy finishing has cost us again at times but now we have an attractive system- not just being hard to break down then rely on gerrard/torres only. He needs backed in the summer and more importantly backed by the fans. Rafa is gone and the time isnt right for him to come back. Be a disaster switchig back to that system

      • Dave says:

Rodgers has been a disaster. We have played a lot of dull boring football under Rodgers too

        • Sargio says:

Disaster is a bit strong. He wasnt backed at.all in the summer. 2 strikers all season to use. Compare that to rest of top 6 besides everton

    • Pnderito says:

@wes- you are absolutely a disgrace. I STILL love rafa. His stats shows how genious he is. He is on the verge of winning the europa with chelski and also be in the top four. I still feel that they will hammer us on the coming epl game[i want it to happen so as fsg can see how bad they did for not appointing THE GENIOUS ,yet he wanted the job]

      • Sargio says:

Pnderito…U want chelsea to hammer us this wkd, and wes is a disgrace for wanting to give rogers a proper chance? get a grip lad ffs. Stick to champ manager or fantasy football or whatever it is that statement is logical in

    • Sargio says:

      Agree

  • jim says:

At the begining of the league, many among us placed our faith in rodgers although having to bear his unpleasant words ‘… EXPECT MORE DAYS LIKE THAT …’ after we were beaten by westbrom 3-0

HOW DARE HIM UTTER SUCH WORDS TO US WHO HAVE BEEN AWAITING FOR SO LONG.

WHAT DID HE THINK!!!!!! HE WILL TEACH LFC to PLAY FOOTBALL BY RETURNING BACK TO SQUARE ONE?????
WHO THE HELL IS HE!!!!!! YOU IMAGINE SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER EVER WON ANY MAJOR TITLE AS A COACH COMING TO INCULCATE NEW TYPE OF FOOTBALL AT A CLUB 5 TIMES EURoPEAN CHAMPIONS AND WITH MANY MORE TROPHIES THAN HIS OWN AGE??????
INFACT NOW WE REALISE HOW RIDICULOUS WE WERE TO TAKE THAT GUY ON BOARD .
WE ARE GIVING HIM PRESTIGE AND WHAT IS WORRYING IS THE FACT THAT HE IS NOT HELPING US TO PROGRESS BUT HE IS ON A LEARNING CURVE AND WE ARE JUST PART OF THAT FOR HIM!!!!!

I RESPECT HIM AS A COACH BUT I CANT SEE A MANAGER OF A TOP LEVEL SIDE IN HIM.

I HOPE THAT FSG ,( WHO HAVE STRESSED THAT THEY HAVE A LOT OF CONSIDERATION FOR THE WORDS OF THE FANS) DO LISTEN TO OUR SAY AND CONSIDER BRINGING RAFA BACK. SOMETHNG THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE AT THE BEGINING OF THE PRESENT LEAGUE!!!!!

LET’s raise our voice once again AND GET OUR CLUB BACK TO THE GLORIOUS DAYS.

  • Ynwa says:

Would love to see Rafa back. I don’t know if its possible under the current regime. We play some pretty stuff but then again so do Arsenal. BR is just another Arsene Wenger. Had enough of this tika taka rubbish.

  • jay says:

Rodgers is a blagger i cant stand him! most liverpool fans who i speak to agree sacking kenny after getting to 2 cup finals was wrong but maybe the king was out of the game
to long, but we still love him,he earned his place in our hearts many many years ago and
will always be in our dreams, rogers on the other hand is a narcacisstic bell, fancy having
a photo of yourself 5×5 foot on your living room! whats that all about? the only reason fsg
gave him the job because he was the best brown noser……now to Rafa the man needs to
be back in charge of liverpool fc for many reasons but here’s a couple the man is a winner! the man loves the club and the city and understands what it takes to take us forward and challange in the english league and also in europe, rodgers on the other hand
will only take us to the midlands playing the likes of villa etc, bring Rafa back now and sack
    rodgers! ynwa reds.
the top end in both the epl and europe

  • norma stitts says:

    #dreamer

  • Robert says:

Andy Carroll would have been great under Benitez. It was a joke to loan out a 35mil striker. That decision alone has cost us a champions league spot. Defenders hate playing against a striker like him, he would have unlocked a few defences this season

  • Magic man says:

The clown rodgers is irish, maybe he thought fsg asked him to finish in the bottom four instead of the top four. Lol

  • Magic man says:

Fsg could always ask him if he’d like to manage there baseball team at the end of the season. I think im on to something guys what you think. Lol

  • Stevie G (Walton) says:

I desperately want Rodgers to succeed at Liverpool, every LFC fan does. I am fed up with new regimes and 2 or 3 years of rebuilding a failing side. Everyone agrees Rodgers has got to given time and at least LFC are playing “great” football which is a vast improvement on the totally abysmal sh!t we played under Hodgson (what a f*cking retard he was). His press conferences were an absolute embarrassment and totally cringeworthy. However, I swear if we are in the same position in by the end of 14/15 season (in no cups and not in the Champions League and in a mid table position), then we have to get a campaign going and get Rafa back!! Rafa is a class act and WILL get us challenging again. Also his transfer dealings were pretty good considering what Houllier, Dalglish and Hodgson did in the transfer market! Take no notice of some of the rubbish spouted on here – he had to sell to service the debt of Hicks & Gillette in the last couple of years of their reign.

  • Ed says:

Hell yeah . bring home rafa , get rid of the imposter
