Fit for the defence of LFC?

Celtic AmbroseTHROUGHOUT this long season that’s just come to an end, Liverpool have had problems in different areas of the pitch.

Some of these problems have been more severe than others and some were addressed through the January transfer window.

One area that needs work going forward is the back line; especially now after Liverpool Football Club have said goodbye to Jamie Carragher.

It’s important to understand that Carra will not be replaced, at least not immediately. Players like that are few and far between, especially when you consider that he is born and bred a Scouser.

Regardless of the daunting task at hand that is trying to replace Jamie Carragher, Brendan Rodgers and FSG are going to have to act fast.

A myriad of players have been linked with the club over this year and the rumours will only intensify as the summer transfer window draws near. One such player to have his name attached to Liverpool is Efe Ambrose.

The Nigerian Footballer has enjoyed a successful season this year, winning the Scottish Premier League with Celtic and the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria.

At 24 years of age, Ambrose certainly has time to develop. Say he was to player as long as Carra has, which is no mean feat, Ambrose would give Liverpool eleven years of service. Whether correct or not, Liverpool are reportedly trying to inject more youth into the squad, something that Ambrose would bring. However, his youth does not translate to inexperience.

Celtic enjoyed their spell in the Champions League this season, providing everyone with a memorable display against Barcelona. Most would be quick to chuck that game up as a frustratingly boring, defensive display but Liverpool fans would have reason to take pride; Ambrose was at the heart of that performance.

At 1.90 m Ambrose has plenty of height but the Nigerian is also fleet of foot, something Liverpool seemingly lacked at various times during the past campaign.

Jamie Carragher’s presence is something that Liverpool will lack next season and although that’s a sad thought it shouldn’t be cause for great concern. There are plenty of options available to the Reds this offseason if they are willing to pull the trigger.
