BelgiumSUNDERLAND are expected to receive a new bid for ‘keeper Simon Mignolet from Liverpool, reports The Independent.

The Reds had a £7million bid turned down, as the Black Cats are asking for £10million for the Belgian.

Ian Ayre and Brendan Rodgers are looking at Mignolet after the repeated speculation linking Pepe Reina with a move to Barcelona. The Spaniard is being eyed up as a potential replacement for Victor Valdes, who has just 1 year left on his contract and could be sold to Monaco this summer.

Mignolet has had a terrific season for Sunderland, keeping 11 clean sheets despite the club finishing just 3 points above the relegation zone.

And after a poor season with Sunderland, the Belgian ‘keeper could be eyeing up a move to a top team, as he looks to impress ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

Mignolet has fallen behind Thibaut Courtois in the Belgium national team pecking order, and the 24-year-old is desperate to prove himself ahead of the tournament in Brazil.

Brendan Rodgers is looking to solidify the defensive side to Liverpool’s game ahead of the new season, as he looks to push for a place in Europe next year.

Rodgers, along with his transfer committee, have identified Mignolet as one of the club’s priority signings this summer.
