LIVERPOOL FC are expecting long serving captain Steven Gerrard to bounce back from his shoulder surgery in time to participate in Liverpool’s pre-season, despite a flurry of rumours suggesting otherwise according to Sky Sports.
The 33 year old was absent for the latter stages of Liverpool’s Premiership campaign after having been confirmed for surgery on his shoulder. He was also absent for England’s international games, a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland and the 2-2 draw against Brazil.
Various media sources have reported that Gerrard will again be unavailable when Liverpool’s season commences, however an official statement from the club have quashed these rumours.
The club said of the situation:
“The club can report that Gerrard’s recovery remains fully on track. As stated originally, the club’s medical team are confident that the midfielder is on schedule for his comeback and expect Gerrard to be fit and ready for pre-season training.”
Gerrard was a prominent figure in Liverpool’s latest season, participating in every single minute of Liverpool’s Premiership campaign until a shoulder injury rendered him unable to continue.
The captain played a total of 52 games for Liverpool and England last season, indicating there are no concerns about his long-term fitness.
