Celta Vigo LiverpoolLIVERPOOL are set to finalise the transfer of Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo in the next 48 hours, according to ESPN.

The Reds have been heavily linked with the forward, and are expected to sign the striker for £7.7million.

Aspas scored 12 goals in La Liga this season, helping Celta Vigo avoid relegation from Spain’s top flight league. The 25-year-old can play as a main forward, a second striker or out wide.

The Spaniard is expected to arrive at Merseyside for a medical in the next few days, as the Reds set about strengthening their side ahead of the new season. With Luis Suarez’ future at the club in doubt, Aspas is set to be brought in to add more attacking options for Brendan Rodgers next season.

The 25-year-old came through the Celta Vigo academy, with this season being his first in Spain’s top division, after helping the side get promoted to La Liga 12 months ago.

The Reds don’t anticipate any issues and Aspas should be confirmed as Brendan Rodgers’ second summer signing in the next 48 hours, following the arrival of central defender Kolo Toure on a free transfer from Manchester City.

Aspas will join up with the Liverpool team ahead of their pre-season tour of Australia and Thailand this summer, and could feature in the friendly against Preston to mark Bill Shankly’s 100th birthday.

Rodgers is doing well with signing young upcoming stars…I think we need a new CM joe allen was a stupid buy and they spent so much money for him

  • Redsimm622 says:

Great. Now get Papadopoulos, and Mkhitaryan and we’ll be in the top 4!

  • Jackie says:

good stuff. Ivan rakitic and henrikh mkhityratan plus papa. well challenge for top four

  • red says:

This is current LFC direction. Buying striker from relegation threatening team. LFC never capable to finish top 6 in coming session with lousy manager and cheapo players.

    • Odoh says:

Red i dnt knw 4rm which generation of lfc supporters 4rm…common br is doing very wel he’s spent only abt 8 million 2 get one experienced defender n a quality forward…guess uv nt watched hm u only knw hw 2 criticise

    • lawrence says:

mate u SO negative Liverpool we dont need supporters like u, all u think is spend big look at the likes of dan stur, michu and coutinho !!!

      • tommo says:

He is realistic and honest . All these muppets on here saying
        “great signing”
        “keep up the good work”
        It’s NONSENSE
None of these fools have even seen Aspas play !

Aspas is not top drawer. We won’t improve unless we buy better

        • Brigadier says:

Very true, nobody even heard of Aspas till two weeks ago.

        • David Tobin says:

Spot on Tommo. Every time we are linked with a player , all the deludes claim he is fantastic without ever seeing them

  • Godsonvilla says:

Nice move br,though we suffered alot last season bt wt dz current signings nd more, top 4 nd epl is our’s jst kip signing quality playa’s we sha regain our lost glory.
    Forward fellow kopites

  • Ekeng says:

You are on track BR go ahead with your good work.

  • Maranatha says:

    Gud sighing

  • Mikael says:

Hello – as part of our re-building for 2013/14 season we still need to get:
    McCarthy GK back-up to Reina
    Eriksen
    Fellani to replace Allen
    Ince
possibly Tevez or Robben or Gomez, if Suarez goes
play Kelly with Toure or Agger in central defence

This idea will push us up to top 4 and compete at a higher level

    • steven hollingworth says:

mccarthy and ince definitely. i agree with playing kelly in central defence. good player when not injured. keep a strong core of english players. that’s very important i think

  • mentor says:

Keep †?? good work BR, but make sure suarez ????§ sold ???õ??? complete some fantastic signing like, kelvin strooman, cristian tello, benteke, best goal keeper, ur choice of defender.

  • Raam says:

That person ‘Red’..!! Are you ok dude? Cause we think you are following the wrong club. There are other club in blue, two actually that likes instant result with over the top players.BR is doing an excellant job. He has learned his lesson from last summer’s transfer circus. We can believe he will bring in few more suprising signings, that will take to the top.BELIEVE..and YNWA.

    • David Tobin says:

Thats a silly comment . How do you know Rodgers has learned his lesson ? Will he stop playing the inadequate Allen ?

Belief is for religious lunatics. Rodgers has given us nothing to believe in

Instead of having a go at other fans , maybe you should think about following Rodgers when he is sacked if you believe in him so much

Most older fans of my generation see past the waffle and bull of Rodgers , and see he is just not a good manager

    • David Tobin says:

And to say “Rodgers is doing an excellent job” is just amazingly stupid !

After the money he has wasted and the dreadful first season he has given us , only a person of limited understanding could ever say that

  • debo says:

David tobin,u must b drunk wen u were typing what u typed nt quite long….BR is fantastic….he only needs a creative midfielder to support Gerrard nd Lucas….plus a defender nd we r gud to go….erikseen, dat sevilla midfielder or dat shaktar donetsk midfielder will b ok…

    • Wayne says:

That’s not true. Rodgers might be fantastic in the future but he hasn’t been so far . His record is pretty awful. Stop getting carried away

  • Paul fitz says:

How can anyone say Rodgers is doing a good job ???? It’s hilarious. Our worst manager ever and some fans (??) believe the b****hit

  • dee says:

Michu anyone, benteke? These are players that are relatively unknown before their move to the EPL. Many of u would have preffered zaha to coutinho because he was more xpensive and he was linked to manure
