Luis Suarez; an enigma that was

Image for Luis Suarez; an enigma that was

Liverpool strikerIN a sensational twist this week, Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez has revealed his desire to leave the club.

In an interview in his native Uruguay, he stated that he was unhappy at Liverpool FC. I must say, while I would be very disappointed to see him go, I would feel somewhat relieved.

By these ungrateful statements, Luis Suarez has now joined Fernando Torres as two of the most ungrateful players to have ever represented Liverpool FC.

It was just recently, within the past two years he was accused of racially abusing Patrice Evra. During this time, Kenny Dalglish along with the Liverpool FC board, publicly backed Suarez completely, to the almost detriment of the club’s and Kenny Dalglish’s image.

In addition, Luis Suarez followed that with more of the same outrageous behaviour by punching an opposing player while representing Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier recently, and if that wasn’t enough he followed that with the biting of Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic back in April.

Indeed, Luis Suarez has had a history of indiscipline, dating back to when he was a sixteen year old; he was accused of head-butting a referee. In addition to this, prior to him signing with Liverpool FC, Suarez was serving a seven match ban for biting an PSV Eindhoven’s Otman Bakkal while playing for Ajax in 2010 where he earned the name ‘The cannibal of Ajax’.

Therefore, with the player coming out now, stating that he felt that the media was being unfair and that his image was most important to him, to me is absurd. Luis Suarez has been “spreading his bed” for too long to just now be concerned about his image. In fact he should be thankful to Liverpool FC for resurrecting his image after what he did in the World Cup [v Ghana].

Luis Suarez is certainly not new to the media circus following him around; he constantly gives them fuel for their fire. He will certainly be missed primarily for his goals and the threat that he poses whenever he is on the field and so was Fernando Torres. But he was replaced.

If and when he does leave, then Brendan Rodgers will no doubt have the task of replacing the goalscoring machine, but there is still ample time for Rodgers to go out and identify a suitable replacement.

I have been a Liverpool F.C supporter since the mid 80's, I fell in love with this club when I saw the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes play. I hold a Law degree from the University of London ,and a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies.

Luis is not a traitor like Torres was. I don’t blame Luis for leaving. I blame Torres for the way he left and who he joined.

Luis doesnt deserve these type of insults from our own fans.

  • Natal says:

I support you here abit Torres left liverpoolwth poor words saying foot ball is not only in liverpool how many goals has he so far scored in chelsea has eva been praised of super strike i mean yah some clubs are great but can not expose players so Suares shld praise liverpool for bringing up his name respect liverpool and should not involve liverpool name in the media torture for him personal i advise him to settle for his pre season training

    • Moses says:

Some of Liverpool fans are not grateful Torres was not ban 3/4 games of the games perhaps he was sold for a record breaking and we spent wrongly by bring Andy Carroll

    • david says:

i sincerely think you didnt read this piece carefully. LFC has put itself on the line a lot of times for suarez to feel at home but this is what they get for it. Liverpool is in my heart and i will defend that symbol for ever but mthis suarez thing leaves me heart-broken. I have argued over suarez….defending him to the point of death but this………no way out here. Suarez has been the architect of this media negative publicity. No one has gone to Van persie to critisize him or ban him becos he’s not english. he hasnt been a villian for being van persie, in fact suarez owes king kenny an apology for all that happened while he was our coach.

  • Ode says:

Liverpool can let him go wit lots of money to strengthen the sward we can always get a goal scorar

    • Moses says:

Liverpool will always get good strikers he is not the only good strikers we ever had Owen flower Torres

  • Juss says:

IF Suarez does leave this summer, I will be a whole lot more upset than I was when Torres left. Suarez has basically stated, as you mention in your article, that the reason he is leaving is because the media is tarnishing his stellar image. Let’s have it right Luis, you’ve been doing a good job of that on your own since you started playing. Don’t try to blame this on the media. To be fair, the media HAVE made it all worse than it needed to be. They have taken pretty commonplace occurrences (diving, for example) and made them out to be the football equivalent of genocide. Regardless of what the media have done, I think it’s safe to say that they wouldn’t have done it if Suarez would just act right. Luis is trying to run from a problem that is going to chase him anywhere he goes, because the problem is Luis himself. To sum all of this up, Luis is throwing every single person who stood up and defended him under the bus to run from a problem that you just can’t run from. All of this because he doesn’t want to change himself.

  • Paul fitz says:

Leave Luis alone and pick on some of the bellends thst contribute nothing to LFC instead . Slag off Allen Borini Downing Johneon if you like but Suarez saved us last season

    • Saus monster says:

Saved us from what? We went out of all cups and finished 7th, thank god he was here or we might have finished 8th like last season when he was also here, if hes here or not we will score goals as we have always done.
I hope he stays 1 more season and i think we might get top 4 with Rogers additions

      • Paul fitz says:

Kop on . With his 30 goals he saved us from utter humiliation with a bottom half finish. Saved Rodgers his job too.

        • Saus monster says:

From utter humiliation you mean envolving us in a race row, admitting he dives or biting someone while playing for us. The lad is a great player but he’s a little pr!ck, if you played against him you’d want to smash his head in,not cos he’s better just because he’s a t!t.
If he wants to change and grow up we will all get behind him, but how many chances can we give him?

          • Paul fitz says:

If he scores 30 next season and is as magical as he was this season , then he can have loads more chances

Brilliant season with a few naughty bits thrown in is still way better than what most players offer

Suarez doesnt embarrass me , he is a Winner & gives 100% and produces quality. People like Allen and Downing or Kewell or Diouf before embarras me – they take the big wages but don’t give 100% and offer damn all

          • Saus monster says:

            I agree paul

But should we have a player that might bite someone in a game and get banned for x amount of games.
I hope he does stay but he needs to grow upfast if he want to be a legend at lfc. I did love his dive at moyes though

  • Scouseroo says:

I’ve been reading all of the constant talk about Suarez over the last couple of weeks and the one thing I find strange is that no one has said what I’m thinking ! So I can only assume that it’s only me who thinks Suarez bit islanovic on purpose to orchestrate this whole move for himself ! Knowing the press would have a field day and that the fa would give him a lengthy ban for an offence he has already been banned for in holland !
This gives him the perfect scapegoat to blame for leaving hoping that the fans will get behind him and blindly blame the press and fa just as we did with evra ! There is no denying he s an amazing talent and will be sorely missed but I for one believe that he has proved again that South American players are some of the most mercenary in the game today as with mascherano Luis will do what he wants with little or no regard for the club or the fans! Hopefully the club can reinvest the funds in players who will be more. Loyal to the cause in the future

  • Red Willie 147 says:

The man divides loyal red fans with actions like this. The decision is either a football one (in case he is awesome!!) or a personal one (the guy is a time bomb that explodes in the club and the fans faces twice per season).
Everyone at LFC knew he was a risk and, so far, he scored enough goals when he could play to justify the fee and selling him would make a handsome profit. He needs a shrink fast before he turns up with a weapon on the field (the loon!) and if we can get in his head and get 100% for one more year to let BR work on the other stuff then I’m personally in favour. After that, it should be bye bye Louis, get him to put it in writing to reduce his profit from the deal and move on LFC. YNWA

  • Steven says:

Plz fsg try to convice suarez to remain for at least this season.

  • callum says:

When you have a player as good and as talented as Suarez _ we should not get rid of him no matter what
I dont care who he bites as long as he produces the goods again and again
