Rodgers seeking to assemble a team of winners

LFC coachesBRENDAN Rodgers in a recent statement to Liverpool’s official website, liverpoolfc.com, stated that “In order to breed the consistency needed to give us success, we need to bring in winners – those with the winning mentality,” a sentiment I share completely.

In examining a few top football teams globally, it is clear that they all have one thing in common; they consist of certain individuals, who can be deemed leaders.

These individuals all display the fight and determination required to be successful at the highest level. Their work rate is second to none and each player is aware of his responsibility and will stop at nothing to achieve success.

If Liverpool FC is going to be consistent, then there is no doubt that we need not only look at the player’s skill set , but also their leadership qualities, work rate and their level of determination. In addition to this, each individual should be aware of his responsibilities, so that he can achieve his goals for the team.

Currently, with the retirement of Jamie Carragher, Liverpool FC is left void of that vocal and commanding presence in the heart of Liverpool FC defence. The addition of Kolo Toure may be a sensible move on Brendan Rodgers’ part. Certainly, there can be no doubts as to the quality and experience which Toure brings to the team. He may lack the pace he once had at Arsenal or even at Manchester city for that matter, but there is no question that his ability to read the game at the highest level will be invaluable.

This signing has now allowed Brendan Rodgers to focus his attention on solidifying the Liverpool attack, which he has started with his second signing of the transfer window.

The (expected) signing of striker Iago Aspas looks to be a very good one and at approximately £9million he would be a very welcomed addition to the already talented Liverpool squad.

Iago Aspas is a player not afraid to take on players, he has good close control and excellent dribbling skills; something that is needed at Liverpool Football Club in order to breakdown stubborn defences.

Brendan Rodgers made mention recently that all he needed was an addition of about three or four quality signings to have a squad capable of challenging at the highest levels. Therefore, with two quality signings already secured, who will be next on Rodgers list?

I have been a Liverpool F.C supporter since the mid 80's, I fell in love with this club when I saw the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes play. I hold a Law degree from the University of London ,and a Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies.

Honesly speaking we will only have one experienced player in the team next season, which is a pathetic objetive of building around professionals. Reina is on his way out and so is carra out. Besides Gerrard all we have is Toure. If we have hope of finishing in the top four 2more squad players in their 30’s are needed.

  • Brigadier says:

‘Finishing above 8th would be fantastic’
    ‘We will finish second!’
    ‘We will sign winners’
    – Rodgers
LOL, the man cracks me up!

    • Dennis says:

Doesn’t crack me up ! It’s not funny anymore. We dont need a clown as manager

I was hopeing with that final question you might following it up with your own opinion. However, Rodgers is 100% correct. We’ve lacked real leaders for years. I can’t remember too many in the last 20 years that would totally inspire and intimidate you. For me the ability to intimidate is really important!! Plus, sheer talent, strangth, stamina and inspirational qualities. Hate them as you will but every team needs players like Didier Drogba, Roy Keane, Fabio Cannavario, or John Terry. Suarez is about all we have and he’s gone.
I think we could need more than three or four now. Toure and Alpas are in and we definitely need another center back if Skirtle is being moved on and cover for Lucas. When Suarez leaves he’ll need to be replaced and possibly a replacement for Reina. That’s looking like six.

The dead wood average players we have at club who should be shipped out this summer are as follows: Before Rodgers can even bring in some winners to club, but the owners need to back rodgers with £40-£50M on top of whatever Rodgers can bring in shipping out dead wood average players and the players who no longer have the heart set on playing for the club:

    1:GK: B Jones for £1-£2M 2:RB: Flanagan for £600,000-£1.5m 3:CB: Coates for £4-£7M 4:CB: Wilson for £1-£3M 5:DM: Spearing for £3-£5M
    6: RW / RWF: Assaidi for £2-£3M 7:FD: Pacheco for £1-£2M 8:FD: Borini for £5-£8M 9: FD: Ngoo for £1-£1.5M 10: FD:Carroll For £12-£16M
    11: LW / LWF: Downing for £7-£10M

Those are the Eleven players who should and need to be definately shown the door this summer.

And as the loyal great serving Vice Captain Carragher has hanged up his boots that would be 12 players who would have left squad if those 11 players above mentioned are shown the exit door this summer like they should

And If P Reina seriously wants out, he should be sold for £10-£12M and replaced by two good class quality Goalkeepers

If Skrtel has had enough of bench and desperately wants out, he should be sold abroad only for £12-£15M and our club needed three centre backs with him at club, so if he is allowed to leave 4 centre backs should be brought to club this summer.

And If Real Madrid meet the £60-£65m barrier for Suarez or Offer the club Higuain and £45M then Suarez should be allowed to join them. Otherwise he is not for sale. Suarez should be sold for £60-£65M no less. Unless Benzema, Di Maria Or Higuain are part of a deal and £45m.

If all these players are shipped out and sold 14 players in all that total is, then B Rodgers should be allowed to replace 12 of them.

And here are the 12 players who should be brought in to replace the 14 in total :

    Defensive players : Seven / 7:

    1:GK: A Mccarthy(23) Of Reading for £5-£7M to compete with M Vorm(29)
    2:GK: M Vorm(29) Of Swansea for £2-£5M to compete with A Mccarthy(23)
3:CB: A Pearce(24) Of Reading on Free Transfer to compete compete with Every centre back at club
4:CB: M Sakho(23) Of PSG for £10-£12M to compete with Every centre back at club
5:CB: K Papapodoulous(21) Of Schalke for £11-£14M compete with Every centre back at club
6:LB: S Umtiti(19) Of Lyon for £4-£6M to compete with Enrique
7:DM: E Capoue(24) Of Toulouse for £6-£9M to compete with Lucas

    Attacking players: Five / 5:

8: CM: De Guzman(25) Of Villareal for £4-£7M to compete with Allen, Gerrard and Henderson
9:AM: I Munian(19) Of A bilbao for £10-£14M to compete with Coutinho, Shelvey and Suso
10: RW/ RWF: C Tello(21) Of Barcelona for £8-£10M to compete with Sterling
11: LW /LWF: D Capel(25) Of Sporting Clube De Portugal / Lisbon for £4-£7M to compete with IBE
12: FD: L Muriel(22) Of Udinese for £10-£14M to compete with Aspas, Higuain and Sturridge if Suarez is sold in the summer

Those 12 players brought in will be winners !!!!!!!!!!

    • Frazer says:

Why do u keep repeating the same things every day ? Once was enough

      • Viewpoint X says:

        LOL!!

      • Denis D says:

        Frazer, you clown?

As our club needs huge overhaul, do you think its coincidence we have been competing for the 7th and 8th the last 4 seasons.

Do you think its a coincidence the two manchester clubs , Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham have finished above us in the last five seasons?

Its because all those teams have a much better squad than us and they will all be improving dramatically in the summer. Our squad has been pathetically weak and poor for five years now, there has been no real quality competition for places and there has been no depth in squad at all.

If you look in the premiership now in all honesty there is divides, The two Manchetster clubs are way ahead at top, then there is a gap and chelsea follow, then there is another gap and Tottenham and Arsenal follow. Then there is another gap where everton follow and then a slight gap again where we follow.

And until some more huge surgery is completed to playing staff inwards and outwards and the woners back B Rodgers heavily in the rtransfer window, then we will keep falling further away from the top 5 teams we are supposed to be competing with year in and year out

        • Dennis says:

Yes yes yes . All true Denis. His point was why do you repeat the same things every day ? It’s boring

  • chris says:

i dont no why people says br is good enough to manage liverpool because of course your not going to win the title on your first season the the squad he had fair enough joe allen wasnt a good signing and borini hasnt really proving himself because of injury but we cant keep replacing managers or we will never be in the CL i say give the man a break and let him get on with his job because at the end of the day he knows alot more then us fans YNWA!!!

    • Liam says:

You can give Rodgers 100 season and he won’t win anything. We wont even get top 4 with this guy. Wake up

    • Denis D says:

RE Chris: J Allen like Henderson are safe footballers, who can dictate the tempo of a game and are mobile quick and hard working. Both distribute the ball and pass very well, they both have a good touch and control and need to add more creativity, taking more risks and goals to their game. But they are both young and both have showed in some games that deserve to be at the club.

In Assaidi and Borini that is not the case they are both average mediocre players who should be shipped out this summer with 9 other dead wood players.

Rodgers shipped out 12 players since his reign at club: 8 permanently off wage bill: Adams, Aquilani, Aurelio, Bellamy, Cole, Doni, Kuyt and Rodriguez.

And 4 loan players: Carroll, Ngoo, Spearing and Wilson.

Yet was only allowed to replace five of the 12 players shipped out: Allen, Assaidi, Borini, Coutinho and Sturridge. 3 out of the 5 are Liverpool players and will do well next season, the other two should be shown the door. (Assaidi and Borini)

And thats a better ratio than what K Dalglish brought into club 18mths before : 8 Players: Adams, Bellamy, Caroll, Doni, Downing, Enrique, Henderson and Suarez.

During his time at club only 3 out of 8 players K Dalglish brought to club were a hit, Bellamy, Enrique and Suarez. The other 5 did not justify being brought to club.

So Rodgers does deserve the backing, Rodgers has had to clear the wage bill with most of the highest earners at club and had peanuts to slowly mould his squad the way he wants it. And the owners now need to back him well and heavily with £40-£50M and whatever he can bring to club on player sales to shape a side/squad capable Of Competing with Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham for the 3rd and 4th Position in the league year in year out. (Champions League Place)

      • Viewpoint X says:

WTF. Borini is 21!!!!!! Now I don’t mind if their 24 and still haven’t done it but 21/22!!?? Where was Van Persie, Drogba, Zidane or not to even mention the likes of Bierhoff, Klose, Michu at that age.

        • Denis D says:

Viewpoint, the problem is we are so far behind now. we need players hitting the ground running now, if were in the position of Man United ( Which is killing me saying this and being honest) Then we could give Borini another year or two to be a success, but we cannot. We have been falling further and further away from the top for last five years as we have had a pathetically weak and inept squad, there has been no real quality competition for places and no depth within squad.

Our club cannot afford to be out of the champions league for many more years if we ever aim to compete with the Real Madrids, Barcelonas, Bayern Munich’s, AC Milan, Juventus, PSG , Lyon on the world stage again. And expect to attract the best talent around the world if we are not in the world biggest football tournament which is watched all over the world now.

        • Brigadier says:

They were all better than Borini at 12 years old ya ijiat!!

  • olawale says:

in rodgers i believe he can deliver with quality players.

  • callum says:

Last summer when he joined Rodgers said “I want to sign only winners ”

Lol. What did he do ?
He signed Borini , Allen and Assaidi – none of whom had ever win a thing in their career . 3 losers

The only player he signed last summer who had won anything was Sahin and he didn’t bother playing him

Brendan himself doesnt know about winning. He has never won a thing his whole life

    • mustafe liverpoolfc, 7 luis suarez/ sterling, gerrard, realmadrid CR7 says:

      I LIKE LIVERPOOLFC INSHA ALLAAH

    • Viewpoint X says:

Oh right and just because Zidane never won anything until he was 26 makes him a loser up until that point. It’s clear to anyone with intelligence that Rodgers was talking about a winning mentality/personality and not someone with a bunch of medals..

  • Kay says:

We need a winner in a manager 1st, look at Man City, they have 25 world class winners as players. We won’t even afford 5 winners, so we need a Rafa kind of guy. Rodgers needs to go back to his day job, managing aSwansea kind of team. We are LIVERPOOL!

    • daft lad says:

Rafa? Jesus. Move on for Christ sake. He finished 5th, 4th, 4th, 2nd and 6th. Proper winner right there.

And Man City do not have 25 world class winner, rodwell, Sinclair, Tour lol

  • GAFOROLA says:

in br i belive becouse all what is doing for the team is good.but i want br not to give real lius more dan £50M

  • daft lad says:

I agree with the need for leaders. I genuinely believe we’re a tad soft and lack bottle. We need more aggression in our play from the back through to midfield. If not aggression then players that will play at their level week in week out.

I disagree that Toure is class. He’s okay. He’s a support player that’s it for me. I don’t rate him higher than that. I’ve no idea on Aspas.

As for Rodgers I despise the negativity some fans hold on him. In his first season he got the best out of the squad we had. That’s how you judge a manager on their ability to get the best out of their players and to buy right. Did people really believe we would finish higher? Next season I think we can challenge but it’s not certain. – look at the competition, the squads the others have built. We need an injection of cash, and we need to get rid of the average that’s been accumulated over the last few years. Since when did we stop giving our managers space to work? I see hope in Rodgers personally and I’ll back him 100%.

  • Kingsley says:

If suarez is going, let him go though we wil miss him but who cares when u have dat little magician(coutinho)doing the creative work to any striker in the team.lfc are moving up dis coming season wheather suarez or no suarez.

  • David Tobin says:

    We need winners ? Yes.

Starting with the manager then , because Rodgers doesn’t know feck all about winning

  • char says:

I see rogers building a dynasty but the problem is so many detractors praying he fails mark my word since we don’t have endless pockets rodgers is the way to go coz he has the balls to play the youths in our academy. IN Rodgers we trust.

    • Ali says:

No we dont. And Rodgers only played youth last season cos he left squad short. Since xmas he dropped them all. Rodgers is a clueless fraud that has already failed. Wise up

  • char says:

It depends from which side u are looking at the coin I might see the head you see the tail in the last eight games or so he has shown a mean streak as well as playing nice football honestly you din’t expect a child to born running not even Ferguson did it in the first season ,see far bro .

    • Tommy says:

Last 8 games were like friendlies for Liverpool. Our season was over in march. We had no pressure on us except for everton game

It’s easy to play with no pressure

  • jesse's son says:

    Lets hope so

  • john says:

i think BR is followin the right part. his last 8 games shows he knows what his doing. lets just stop influencing him wth our bad mouth instead let surport and pray 4 him 2 suceed this coming season.

  • LFCPaul says:

Awful manager , nowhere near top quality. One more season of mediocre rubbish then Rodgers will be sacked

You cannot compete at the top without a decent manager and until we get one we are average

  • Maximo says:

Let BR do the job, the progress is there as evidenced by how things turn out starting by January. Suport the manager the future is bright.

  • Tommy says:

There is no progress and no future with a second rate low level manager like Rodgers.

I have never seen a big club with such a useless manager before. Tactically inept and full of BS – that’s our Brenda

No top players will come with Rodgers here, and it’s no wonder Suarez wants to leave .

    • Dennis says:

Yes and don’t be fooled by the ” I’m leaving cos of the press” nonsense

Suarez wants to play for top team not one managed by someone like Rodgers

  • el pablo says:

BR ur such a great coach…is very unfortunate that we have some blind fans who cant uphold ya honor..with adequate cash you can drive any team to anywhere…thanks for loving LFC i fully appreciate and i believe in you………thanks again…rome can never be built in a day…..

    • Ali says:

Lol. ” br is great coach” lol lol lol

What has he won ? Nothing
And he has just given us our worst season in decades. What are u smoking ?
