Why should Suarez share our dream?

LFC strikerMORE than 95,000 people singing their hearts out, giving us perhaps the most spine tingling rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone since the Champions League semi-final at Anfield in 2005 – in a meaningless friendly game on the other side of the world.

Now that is loyalty; true loyalty and love, bordering on insanity.

‘I’ll never forget this. Best night of my life.’

‘The city was like a sea of red; so proud to be part of the LFC family today.’

Those are some examples of words I’ve read from Aussie fans after the game between Liverpool FC and Melbourne Victory.

This pre-season tour to Asia and Australia once again confirms it: WE love you, Liverpool. WE do. Unconditionally, across geographical and cultural borders. And they say distance relationships don’t last. Shame on them.

I don’t expect too much of it anymore. Loyalty, that is. At least not in football.

It’s dead and empty; football is business and nothing more. We use the term ‘mercenary’ in the most derogatory sense to describe players who go to Chelsea, Manchester City or other clubs with new money; we spit it out like a foul and dirty foreign object not worthy of resting on our tongue.

How about other players who leave their clubs to join Liverpool? Where is their loyalty and love?

Does Luis Suarez love Liverpool? I don’t think he does, and he may not ever do. Does it matter? Not really; not to me anyway. Because I don’t expect players to have the same emotional attachment to the club as I do; I don’t expect them to let it become such a big part of their identity. Just don’t f*** us over, please. Leave everything on the pitch every single time you put on the shirt, and provide us with a solid chunk of cash when you lock the door. That’s all I ask right now.

Luis Suarez does just that; he leaves everything out there, for better or worse. Blood, sweat and tears; never has the old cliché been more true – which is why he is so dear to us, and why many feel so betrayed when it looks as if he doesn’t want to be part of the family any longer. We can’t say anything for sure yet, but you’ll need to have an outlook well beyond positive to sincerely believe he still wants to stay.

Personally I have gone through different stages of premature grief over the summer, and I’m now at peace. Rational thinking is restored to its original level. I will quietly respect his decision should he decide to join a Champions League club – which by all accounts is the main reason for his apparent desire to leave. He has his dreams and ambitions, and right now the club isn’t in a position to match them.

Luis Suarez is an example for everyone that if you work hard enough and hone your talent it can be worth it in the end. Your dreams can come true, regardless of background. And the cold, hard fact is that Liverpool Football Club isn’t his dream – it’s just our dream.

It’s perfectly understandable that Suarez wants to play at the highest level,to genuinely compete for trophies on all fronts. Just don’t keep changing the goalposts;media intrusion, victimisation, boyhood dream of playing for Real (didnt he say something similar about Liverpool) and the lure of champions league football, that according to him several months ago wasnt the be all end all.
Why should we expect loyalty from a guy who was born 1000s of miles away,he’s a footballer,it’s his job. Just don’t bullshit us and show the people who stood by you some modicum of respect!

Great article pal. The problem with our dreams is that without Luis we are Swansea or Aston Villla or Everton. We have a history of coming back from dire situations and it will happen again. I don’t think it will happen with our present manager who is nothing but a puppet for the big boys with the loot They got rid of The King when we were starting to love the club again and enjoy our belligerence toward everyone else. Now we have the touchy feely corporate bollocks where they check reactions to press conferences and suggest sound bites for our manager to use. “Why would Luis want to leave us for Arsenal they are not as big a club as Liverpool”. No * * Sherlock.

  • Terry says:

Assuming that what we read about Suarez is true he is not worthy of the club.

  • Bolaji says:

Suarez has dissapoint our loyalty, respect, nd caring 4 him but no problem we just av 2 let him do what he wishes after all no player is irreplaceable.

  • Wayne Lynch says:

Can’t blame suarez at all . He is a top top player and deserves to be playin at highest level.

Fsg have once again shown no ambition this summer and without even a decent manager in place , there are no reasons for hope so why would.Suarez want to stay

Liverpool should be buying players of Suarez quality , not selling them

    • Greg says:

You might not but many others do…. and FSG DID buy a player of Suarez’s quality… and look what he’s done… it is Suarez who is forcing a sale…. you can’t lay this at the door of FSG… it is down to Suarez…no-one else.

  • tommy says:

First it was the english media, now it is about the chamions league. Why don’t we just cut the bull and all agree that it is about money.
If Liverpool FC double his wages he will stay for sure. And then all of a sudden he will come out and say that he is so happy to share our dream and will fight for a top 4 spot.

IT’S ALL ABOUT MONEY!!!!! GOT IT????

    • Jack says:

No. Arsenal dont pay huge wages. It’s about him wanting to play for a top club with ambitions.

We have a nobody manager and are buying average players .we wont get top 4 ever with Rodgers and Suarez knows tgat

  • Bill says:

Why should Suarez share our dream? Err because without him we don’t have one. More likely to be a nightmare.

I do so wish idiots like Wayne would grow up. FSG are not multi billionaires like some. If FAG had not come to the rescue LFC would now be playing against the likes of Accrington Stanley and AFC Liverpool. We were bust, broke, skint, bankrupt or any other way you want to put it. Hicks and Gillette sold the family silver, sold our best players and sacked anyone who didn’t agree with them. Now all we get are idiots posting how badly done to we are by FSG. Was anyone else in the frame to take over? No Parry queered that pitch, after the way he treated DIC no other rich arab ruler would come near Liverpool.

    • Dennis says:

      What a retarted comment

You obviously haven’t a clue. lol . Fsg are not billionaires ? Ha ha ha . Henry alone has over 2.5 billion according to Forbes . Fsg are the 4th richest premier league owners

      Kop on u clown

And liverpool were never in danger of going out of business..don’t be so stupid !

Bill you are obviosly a small child . Go learn something before posting

  • allaboutanfield says:

Liverpool FC cannot afford Suarez’s money . FSG will never come up with that kind of money for 1 player. My gut feeling is that we are going to loose Suarez this season once someone can come up with the right offer. I only hope that we don’t have to wait until the last day of transfer season to find out. It would be very cruel to Liverpool . I am surprise so far only Gunners are in the lead to sign Suarez. Will we see Real Madrid , Bayern Munich or even Napoli entering the race for Suarez’s signature ?

  • Raam says:

Bill, agree with you. If its not for FSG,just cant imagine what our situation would have been. Yes,Suarez is dazzler on the field, magician. But he had done too much damage to the clubs name. His ambition is or maybe have always been to play for Real Madrid. He wont think twice to do the unthinkable to achieve his goal. Ajax, LFC, soon maybe Gunners and later who knows how many clubs he will step upon to reach his destination. It is hard thing to do but LFC should let him go. If he stays his performance might dip and so will his value. Worse still if we fail to reach CL,he will use it as an excuse. He will. We will still end up loosers. But i am preparing myself for something bigger like there are signs Henry will throw in the towel soon and we will end up in the hands of wealthy Mid Easterns. Things are drasticly going too change at the Red end of Merseyside. Some might question or ridicule me but the signs are there.

  • Brigadier says:

Suarez did as much as anyone to try to get us in the top four last season, its the rest of the squad and a weak manager that got us to 7th. 50m net spend in his first year and Brenda couldnt even finish ahead of Everton! Not even in Europe this year, its a joke how Brenda has escaped so mich criticism, maybe the biased media are happy to see Brenda in charge of LFC!

    • Gary S. says:

      Spot on

      • Greg says:

Spot on?! It’s short sighted at best… while LS has certainly given us goals and great moments on the pitch he has also given us more problems off it than any other player in our history. He has tarnished the image of the club in the eyes of many, tarnished the reputation of one of the club’s greatest ever servants in the process and probably contributed to his dismissal, and he is now rubbing up the legs of a direct competitor despite the unparalleled levels of support he’s been given by both club and supporters.

The current situation regarding his transfer is causing uncertainty within the club once again and is entirely of his making. There is no-one but Suarez to blame. He knew when he signed his contract not even a year ago that the club was in transition and it would take more than one season to sort. He has been excused his foibles because of his wanting the team to win “at all costs”….this is him proving it is not the team that needs to win but him…and bugger the consequences. He cares not a jot about us.
The only good thing is that we will probably make £20 million or so on the sale (offsetting the loss on Carroll, and so KD’s record looks a little better on that front) and be able to bring in a couple of key players… it’s been a helluva learning curve for FSG to say the least. Let’s hope they pick up on the lessons.

        • Jack says:

Yawn . Greg you always talk sh!te . Never seen one intelligent comment ever.

        • Brigadier says:

Yes Greg, blame a player who scored 34 goals while a useless spineless manager fails to motivate the rest of the squad who play like a bunch of ponies.

    • Jack says:

Brigadier I totally agree . Rodgers is unbelievably lucky he kept his job after that disgraceful season
