Hicks and Gillett still cast huge shadow over Anfield

LFCFORMER owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are still casting their shadows over Anfield according to former chief executive Rick Parry.

In an interview on BBC Merseyside, Parry was talking about the American pair’s problematic ownership of Liverpool FC from 2006-07 to 2010-2011 and the huge debt they left the club with.

Hicks and Gillett beat off competition for the club from the Dubai International Capital consortium and paid £220 million for the club shortly before Liverpool reached the Champions League final for the second time in three years.

There were a series of promises made by both men that they never fulfilled including the building of a new stadium in Stanley Park and they allowed the debt against Liverpool to build to £237 million when Fenway Sports Group stepped in and saved the club from administration.

Parry was quoted as saying:

“That period of destabilisation is when we fell out of the Champions League. Once you’re in there, you’re achieving those regular revenue streams. It’s a mountain to climb when it falls away.”

As we have seen this transfer window Liverpool and manager Brendan Rodgers are struggling to attract the right calibre of player to the club due to the lack of Champions League football.

All fans hope the shadow of Hicks and Gillet will soon be a distant memory and those great European nights will be back at Anfield sooner rather than later.

What a crock of *, Hicks and Gillett whilst not in any way good for the club, are not to blame for the poor running of the club by the likes of Parry & Ayres, especially Parry who from reports would constantly undermine done deals to try and save a few bob here and there and cost us signings, sounds like Parry passing the buck on to someone the fans already hate. The poor transfer dealings and panic buying of the likes of Andy Caroll (who would never fit into the way Liverpool play), the constant misguided management of player sales and acquisitions by these jokers have cost the Club millions. The poor buying and selling strategy usually at a loss has still continued, how did Hicks & Gillett achieve that? We need to put all this in the past and move on, we are still buying poor players at an inflated price (see Joe Allen(£15 million, seriously), Robbie Keane (£19 million, 7 goals and sold at a £7 million loss), Alberto Aquilani (not exactly a class replacement for Xabi Alonso espcially at a whopping £14 million loss), Charlie Adam (£3 million loss), Ryan Babel (£5.5 million loss)) to mention just a few. It’s not been bad owenership or bad management solely to blame, but it has been bad business and the people responsible for that were Parry and Ayres.

what a hypocrite, you sold the club to the Yankees, how can you even speak on behalf of LFC… you’re still not regarded by LFC fans as a red. how much did you get for the sale? why didn’t you encourage the Dubai consortium sale? how can you allow a club like Liverpool to be dragged down the gutter by lending so much money to buy the club and *it up by using the club as a guarantee for the debt? *

    Parry and Moores CHOSE THEM

  • Red Nem says:

Parry…..you chose to sell to the highest bidder…you are equally to blame

  • Yomishow says:

Who is fooling who? Look at the pot calling the kettle black, idiot! Whose fault?

  • Raam says:

Moores wanted no part in the clubs financial downfall. After years of reaping profits he quickly washed his hands and leaving us to G & H.. And what happened after that will always remain as the darkest time in the clubs history. And we still havent come out of it yet. Is there a light at end of the season? We’ll have to wait and see.
