Does Assaidi’s exit signal an exciting incoming?

Liverpool transfer targetsMARK it in your calendar: Tuesday 27th August – the day Oussama Assaidi left Liverpool Football Club. If you don’t, you’ll probably forget he was ever a Liverpool player!

Of course, it’s only a loan move but given that his move, and subsequent ‘career’, at Liverpool FC appears to be nothing short of a slightly costly joke it is perhaps for the best that he has been moved on.

I genuinely hope for the Moroccan that he can flourish at Stoke and that his form will lead to a permanent move because I never like to see a footballer waste his career on a bench when he has talent that could be used elsewhere.

The most interesting aspect of Assaidi’s loan move however, is that it would seem to suggest that a player in a similar position will be on his way in to fill the ‘void’ left by the winger.

Indeed, in recent days the club has been heavily linked with a loan move for Chelsea’s Victor Moses; an interesting move, if it comes off, but it’s questionable whether it would be a worthwhile one, given that he is reportedly on a fairly impressive after-tax wage and that Chelsea are also asking for a loan fee fairly close to what we paid to bring Assaidi in permanently.

That’s not to say I don’t rate Moses, I do. He’s a good prospect, with a fair bit of Premier League experience. But at the moment, that’s all he is: a prospect. He looked fairly promising during his brief appearances for Chelsea last season and his form for Wigan clearly prompted them to make a move for the winger but would he really be an improvement on two great, pacey prospects we already have in Sterling and Ibe? I think most Reds would agree that he wouldn’t, with only his added experience being the difference between the three.

Another suggestion that’s popped up in the last 48 hours is another Chelsea player – Juan Mata. I think that I again wouldn’t be alone in feeling very excited by the idea of that transfer but Mourinho already appears to have put paid to that, making it fairly clear that he feels Mata is an integral part of his squad.

Whether this is true or not, he clearly doesn’t feel he’s a starter and any offer from Liverpool would probably have to be a permanent one and somewhere in the region of £25-£30 million. Whether we could pay this or not is irrelevant really though, as it’s unlikely a top midfielder like Mata would be prepared to miss out on Champions League football.

I have always been a fan of the idea that ‘you’ll never know unless you try’ though so I genuinely believe that if we’re to make a move for any Chelsea squad player in the next few days it should only be Mata.

Regardless of who it is though, it is fairly clear that Liverpool will be making moves in the next few days to bring in another attacking player and with Assaidi now gone it would make no sense to simply replace a squad player with a squad player.

We need a player that can provide a real attacking threat and enable Coutinho to come in from the left, into his rightful place down the centre, just behind Sturridge/Suarez and it promises to be a very interesting few days indeed as we build up to transfer deadline day.

FSG has been laid bare, and so have we by the looks of things. I have been banging on about the stadium but lets be honest that is the true marker of their intentions. Every team with stadiums in mind releases images/pictures/artists impressions. Not these Yanks. I wonder why?

The person who sickens me is Ian Ayre, masquerading as a Liverpool fan whilst taking his fat cheque and being complicit in the deceit. He is full of it.

The person I feel sorry for is Brendan, who has a good team ethic and plays a decent brand of football. The only shortcomings can be put down to lack of depth/quality in positions. If he was backed I am sure he would come good, infact he has come good, given the squad and the obscene financial restrictions placed upon him.

The people I blame? Well, apart from FSG I blame us as supporters. Why? Because we throw money at the club like drunken sailors, 3 new tops, 6 new tops in the last 12 months? “Oh yes please I will take all three”. Season ticket prices going up? “Ok, I will renew no matter what the cost.” You may say we are exploited because they know we love the club. Maybe we should have sought to arrest the greed in football sooner.

They are raking it in. And we let them.

If they had nothing to hide they would be at the games.

By the way FSG never saved us, Royal Bank of Scotland did, as other posters point out they were well within their rights to liquidate LFC but they didn’t.

Looking back, Tom and George used to at least buy players and never sold a player unless he asked for it .e.g. Alonso, Masch.

They were no worse How could they be. They spent none of their own money, just like FSG.

    I am worried. Very worried.

    Wont even mention R**** V*n P****e or W***e R****Y.

    I am terrified for Sunday.

    New stadium. Oh wever

Can’t you make your own assessment about a player and not what other clubs think? That’s a start for you! Think Sturridge think Coutinho…… undervalued at their previous clubs ? Yes sir!

I fully back those opinions. Every one . Each one will prove to be correct

I might have been a tad harsh on Toure…but I don’t like drug cheats…apart from that ..all true. Thanks for reposting

Try reading the part about Rodgers. A bit of a contradiction. No.

Assaidi exit shows that Rodgers bought rubbish last summer. Only 3,_m…but still 3m wasted. Assaidi never looked like a premier league player

  • EF says:

How time changes views eh. It wasn’t long ago people were saying “I like what FSG/Brendan are doing in this transfer window” but it was a naive outlook as all they were doing was replacing existing players.

Now we are at the end of the window the realism sets in that FSG have NEVER been and never wil be competent owners. Braindead when it comes to football intelligence since they arrived and have no interst at all.

They always have been and always will be Hicks & Gillette part 2. Why oh why were the “Thanks but no Yanks” banners taken down at Anfield!?

  • norton says:

NO! it definitely doesn’t! they are interested in making a profit, so they don’t want the wage bill or high transfer fee’s.

    FSG OUT!

  • Sir Bob says:

On another point. just watched Mick McCarthy on SSN saying Spurs are going to spend half a billion on redeveloping White Hart Lane and have already spent £70 million on lawyers fees for it! Now that makes us look cheap skate again only reportedly spending £150 million on redevelopement of Anfield.

We really are falling behind further and further some of these clubs because of these tight owners.

We are just not getting run properly and this is why we are all being kept in the dark by Ian Ayre and treated like idiots. Where are the Owners? Where is Tom Werner ? He’s THE CHAIRMAN for heaven sake !

We need action guys, we need to do something about these cowboys.

  • Rob Lyons says:

Fenways are here tomake dollars , not the ‘glory of Liverpool’. All their early smoothness is wearing thin and the real fans are seeing right through them

  • Denis D says:

FSG are only out for themselves and not the club and us fans. Yeah the owners backed K Dalglish with £115M to bring in 7 players but that £80M of the funds was brought in from player sales (Torres, Babel, Bennayoun, Meireles, Poulsen, Koncheskey and Ngog) So FSG only gave Dalglish £35M.

FSG has made Rodgers ship out most of the experienced players on high salaries out of the club: Adams, Aquilani, Aurelio, Bellamy, Carroll, Cole, Doni, Downing, Kuyt, Rodriguez.

And also Shelvey, Spearing have been shipped out.

The owners need to take the finger out of their arses and back Rodgers with some real money £40-£65M as every year we are playing better football, but due to lack of class, quality and depth within the squad and all our rivals above and around us strengthening well due to them being backed well in the transfer window. Every year we are playing catch up and as we are getting slightly better with results, our first 11 when everyone is fully fit and injury free and no suspensions has not been our problem. Our problem is we lack class, quality, depth and quality competition for places, pace, speed in attack.

And the owners need to give Rodgers £40-£65M to spend on these 6 players tonight/ before the transfer window closes:

    Defensive players:
1: CB: K Papadopolous(21) Of Schalke or M Sakho(23) Of PSG for £12-£16M to compete with Skrtel

2: CB: T Alderwierld (24) Of Ajax Or T Llori(20) Of Sporting Clube de Portugal / Lisbon for £6-£8M to compete with Agger and Toure

3: DM: M’Vila(23) Of Rubin Kazan Or B Matuidi(26) Of PSG for £12-£15M to compete with LUCAS

    Attacking players:

4: AM: As we have now lost C Eriksen(21) To Tottenham, another player we were after that Tottenham have won the race for as AYRE IS A Crap negotiator and takes to long to wrap up anything. I Munian(20) Of A Bilbao is a better player than Eriksen and is faster and quicker also, he should be brought to club for £11-£14M to compete with Alberto and Coutinho

5: RW /RWF: J Montero (23) Of Monarcas Morelia in Mexico is a better, quicker player than V Moses and would be an awesome addition to the side for £4-£7M to compete with Sterling

6: LW / LWF: D Capel(25) Of Sporting Clube De Portugal / Lisbon for £4-£7M to compete with Aspas and IBE
