LiverpoolLIVERPOOL manager Brendan Rodgers has urged the team on the club’s official website to forget about their clash of the titans with Manchester United next weekend, and instead focus on their match on Tuesday against Notts County.

Liverpool are in fantastic form and, fresh from their 1-0 defeat of Aston Villa on Saturday, the first time they have won both of their opening Premiership games since 2008, the Reds will be understandably optimistic when they face David Moyes’ United side.

However, after the victory Rodgers was keen to bring attention to the Reds’ Capital One Cup tie against County, and insisted that the players put all their focus on that. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Rodgers said:

“We’ve got a game on Tuesday night so there’s no thoughts towards Manchester United yet, we’ve got a game in the cup that we want to progress through.

“There’s no doubt winning games breeds confidence; the players are only getting the rewards for how hard they have been working.

“We had a really good pre-season, the focus in the team is very good and we were determined to make a good start. It’s only two games, it’s very early yet – but it’s better to win them than draw or lose.”

Liverpool’s game against United will be the first time they face new United manager David Moyes, who previously coached another of Liverpool’s bitter rivals – Everton.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

Take every game as a cup final..Thats what Rafa did in 2009..Dont take any team lightly..especially lower divisyen teams. And for MU game,, BR have to keep in mind that though Moyes is the manager but he is just a puppet for theres an old foe still pulling all the strings..

    • David says:

NigerianKop, pls stop being mediocre. Wat I want liverpool to win is that we sud at least overtake Chelsea at that top spot and also stay there and dat Liverpool sud be able to av 2cups(carling and F.A). But wat I want now is dat let Liverpool buy Moses, Damiao and Sakho and also Eriksen. It will bring us cups these season

  • Kilasho says:

  • vicky says:

  • Mene says:

Is a gr8 honour 4 LFC dis season 4 their per4mance. Man.u is a game we need 2 win, bt 4 capital cup if we loss is a big disappointment 4 us. Cos we won’t b draw in d real capital cup table. I pleade rodgers 2 do his best & win today match.

  • Itse says:

We stil ned a marquee signing.

  • ugal says:

we need to be in the UCL next season or else it going to be bad, then win a major cup to cramp it up UP LEVERPOOL.

  • Harmony says:

I don’t know for you folks…but I see liverpool finishing 3rd or higher this season.Cos we have got a team that’s better than the top top four teams. All we need is one more marquee signing.

Bad news…….LFC must avoid from using unconsistent players like Downing,Carroll, Lucas, Henderson and Skrtel. They only just passenger players who want high salary but can give a little contribution or nothing. To dangerous only depend to all this players.Thank you very much because LFC already ship out Downing and Carroll this season.Borini,Skrtel,Henderson and Lucas will give trouble soon because sometimes make unconsistent performance.LFC will regret if still keep them all.Much better ship out before transfer window nearly closed. They all will effect all performance of team. LFC still can get more talented players, genius, briliant and fighters.Don’t tell me F.Borini is great player if you rate his skill….Drible, corner kick, tackle, free kick, and what else? I cannot see the best yet.The good players we can see with only 2 or 3 of games, but F.Borini still never show up the best over than 13 apearence. He is so lucky because can score only 2 goal with a simple movement. How about assist and try ball? Not impessive and dissapointed for all of us.Just sell him and get more much2 better players like Leandro Damio or Christian Eriksen.Siem De Jong??Why not……This early summer LFC are wasting longer times about entertainment Luis Suarez transfer saga. The owner are too stingy about draw big budget to get marquee signing.1 by1 target players are miss out to anothers clubs.Very sick to look situation while the enemy clubs can hijack our target players. Can you feel it ???

  • Chips says:

Yeah, can feel it! It will take owners with real balls to start getting in the real players we need to win. Mind you it’s not just getting in the CL that we want as supporters, but to get to the final and possibly win it as well. We can’t get there let alone win it with the quality we have got. We need more please, buy the Willians, Bales and so on!

  • David says:

Lucas is not inconsistent, Henderson is developing, Let LFC buy Sakho(to back up toure/Agger), Eriksen in place of Henderson/Gerrard(in case of injury/tiredness), Damiao in place of suarez(for now).

  • Goody~Goody says:

Yap, fellow LFC palz. Henderson is a waste player, Lius Alberto or Sterling should replace him. As for Lucas, let Allen replace him. Victor Moses is welcome, cos he should be on the forward (left-wing) so Coutinho can be in the middle doing the dirty job for us! YNWA

  • Shawnreid says:

The wrong moses we have had to many imposters at Liverpool since 1989 he is rubbish anyone who thinks Lucas and Henderson are out of the team need their heads testing two possible future captains
