Does Assaidi’s exit signal an exciting incoming?

Liverpool transfer targetsMARK it in your calendar: Tuesday 27th August – the day Oussama Assaidi left Liverpool Football Club. If you don’t, you’ll probably forget he was ever a Liverpool player!

Of course, it’s only a loan move but given that his move, and subsequent ‘career’, at Liverpool FC appears to be nothing short of a slightly costly joke it is perhaps for the best that he has been moved on.

I genuinely hope for the Moroccan that he can flourish at Stoke and that his form will lead to a permanent move because I never like to see a footballer waste his career on a bench when he has talent that could be used elsewhere.

The most interesting aspect of Assaidi’s loan move however, is that it would seem to suggest that a player in a similar position will be on his way in to fill the ‘void’ left by the winger.

Indeed, in recent days the club has been heavily linked with a loan move for Chelsea’s Victor Moses; an interesting move, if it comes off, but it’s questionable whether it would be a worthwhile one, given that he is reportedly on a fairly impressive after-tax wage and that Chelsea are also asking for a loan fee fairly close to what we paid to bring Assaidi in permanently.

That’s not to say I don’t rate Moses, I do. He’s a good prospect, with a fair bit of Premier League experience. But at the moment, that’s all he is: a prospect. He looked fairly promising during his brief appearances for Chelsea last season and his form for Wigan clearly prompted them to make a move for the winger but would he really be an improvement on two great, pacey prospects we already have in Sterling and Ibe? I think most Reds would agree that he wouldn’t, with only his added experience being the difference between the three.

Another suggestion that’s popped up in the last 48 hours is another Chelsea player – Juan Mata. I think that I again wouldn’t be alone in feeling very excited by the idea of that transfer but Mourinho already appears to have put paid to that, making it fairly clear that he feels Mata is an integral part of his squad.

Whether this is true or not, he clearly doesn’t feel he’s a starter and any offer from Liverpool would probably have to be a permanent one and somewhere in the region of £25-£30 million. Whether we could pay this or not is irrelevant really though, as it’s unlikely a top midfielder like Mata would be prepared to miss out on Champions League football.

I have always been a fan of the idea that ‘you’ll never know unless you try’ though so I genuinely believe that if we’re to make a move for any Chelsea squad player in the next few days it should only be Mata.

Regardless of who it is though, it is fairly clear that Liverpool will be making moves in the next few days to bring in another attacking player and with Assaidi now gone it would make no sense to simply replace a squad player with a squad player.

We need a player that can provide a real attacking threat and enable Coutinho to come in from the left, into his rightful place down the centre, just behind Sturridge/Suarez and it promises to be a very interesting few days indeed as we build up to transfer deadline day.

    Errr….No !

  • Me says:

Anyone (in terms of wingers) leaving Chelsea because of the Willian and possible Atsu transfer would be worthwhile… I mean, they have like 10 quality players for 2 maybe 3 positions.

@blindside…who are you saying no to? no don’t come for Chelsea players, no don’t go for mata, or no don’t go for moses… or just no.

  • adheer says:

“Does Assaidi’s exit signal an exciting incoming?”… Did Downing’s exit signal an exciting incoming? No.
At this point, players leaving bares no consequence to playing coming in.. Cos all our top targets have declined the opportunity to join Liverpool despite the room made in our squad. Man, I certainly wish I was wrong, but I doubt it.
Who knows, maybe our ‘Plan E’ target would come through :/

  • stevie says:

Already got them.sterling and ibe. Let those two loose on defences. Defenders hate quick players. I doubt he will play them both at the same time in league games so when one gets tired bring the other one on.

    • Andrew says:

Stevie if you think Ibe is good enough yet you’re mistaken he isn’t up to the pressure of playing for a massive club yet. Sterling has already proved to have a suspect temper, he’s been arrested for assault twice in a year hardly the behaviour of a LFC employee

    • Craig says:

We need that little bit more experience on the right, ibe is defo one for the future but i would only use him in patches through the season. Ljijac looks the part and may become available. Lets just hope spurs don’t grab him.

  • besrbarnun says:

all the players we should be buying are being bought by others as we are so slow – then we try to buy the players who are not needed/wanted any more after successful signings by our competitors. why not buy Atsu for 3/4m rarher than pay 2m for one season for a discard…….. the nub of all this is that pool are not in a position to spend anything more than they generate from outgoings and with city/gooners/spurs and possibly manure spending 80-100+m we will fall back yet again. rodgers is trying to put together a top 4 unit with string and gum – not his fault, but doomed to fail

    • Andrew says:

We’re not to slow we just have owners not prepared to pay the cash. Look at Willian BR told them he was perfect for us they refused to meet the asking price. Our biggest failure is our owners and the odious Henry’s comments that we can’t continue to operate outside the Champions League is pathetic given his cost cutting last summer and this. Until we get ambitious owners who can put us in with a chance then we’re sunk

  • Joe says:

I think he could be good enough for us, always excited when he played! Hopefully, by going out on loan it’ll actually prove to Brendan whether or not he’s good enough to play for LFC or not! Best thing is that by being in the Prem he will be on show constantly, will assist our assessment of him!

  • Smartt says:

BR is tryn to repeat that old mistake again by selling and loaning out his players at the end of de transfer without replacing them. Ah, so why wont suarez force his way out. Where is that maquee signing br has bn talkin abt. 5 days more to end the transfer nd our squad is stll not in depth to assist injuries what a transfer saga oh. Hmm! but i still luv my club. Allah ve mercy. YWNWA!

  • CHUKWUEMEKA says:

i know this will surprise many but i would choose an in form moses over christian atsu. moses thrives on expectation nd love nd that is what he is lacking at chelsea coupled with their patern of play. while atsu is physical nd a valencia type of player moses is fluid and can interchange. i have a feeling we wld be pulling a rare string if his wages dont stop our getting him. am not in anyway saying he is the best we can get cos we can do better but he is definitely better than atsu. YNWA

    • Voland says:

      Emeka from IMD?

    • C says:

Moses would be a shrewd move just like kolo. I’m confident that we will get some quality in the next few days.
Last night will hurry negotiations up, it would be suicide not to sign a cb and am now. We cant expect ibe, sterling, and wisdom to perform week in week out their not quite there

  • Nickyboy says:

Just like the exciting player we got when we sold downing and the holding midfielder we got when we sold spearing you should know by now that it’s players off the wage bill that’s more pocket money a week for mr Henry and Tom Werner to buy ink and paper for there newspapers they are rinsing out club out like a flannel to pay for there projects in the U.S now someone stand up and tell me different!! YNWA.

  • NigerianKOP Onyedika says:

I think Atsu might be better, chukwuemeka is just being sentimental because he is our countryman.. Moses aint worth all these hypes.. Lets get sakho in, am worried ahead of our match on sunday. YNWA

  • pino pino says:

John henry clearly has no ambition for my lfc it makes me cry looking at our club no cover for gerrard, coutinho, lucas only sterling as a winger ooh its very shameful,i am not begging for quality signings again but please buy us cover even from port vale or oldham, just sick of hearing quality signing using the word MARQUEE deceive themselves not me again, lfc now a laughing stock, every season will be better club.BR OUT,FSG OUT.Y.N.W.A for life.

  • keith says:

if liverpool fc where a baseball team,,the yanks would move heaven and earth to buy the best lfc is just a second string money spinner ,,, or top player steven gerrard get 7.25 million a year ,heres just some of the red socks salary , Jake Peavy 16,157,271
    2 John Lackey 15,950,000
    3 David Ortiz 14,500,000
    4 Ryan Dempster 13,250,000
    5 Shane Victorino 13,000,000
    6 Jon Lester 11,625,000
    7 Dustin Pedroia 10,250,000

    • Xabi says:

Exactlyyy. They couldn’t care less if success came after 10 years..20 years or maybe never. That is crazy money they are earning for a game so similar to cricket lol

    • no sheep says:

amazing! forget the fact that thd red sock are probably running at a profit. and you are comparing $ to £ you twit. SG makes $11.270,000.
liverpool are running at about a £50million loss per season. then there are clowns on here that just say spend the money and show ambition. say fsg spend £40million on three good players to come in. offer them £100,000 a week , which is £15.600,000. add that to the £50mill we already lose every season and that give you £65,600,000 loss a season. not counting the £40mill fsg spent on players.
with three players we might get 4th place, then we have to get through the qualifiers. if we get to the group stages we will get something like £20mill. can only get 10/11 results.

we would still be running at a loss of £45million.

we need to get the club on a good financial footing before we start to throw money around, and even then there is no guaranty a 20 to 40 million player is gonna be better then countinho or sturridge.

when you live at home with mom and dad, it easy to tell people to spend there money.
but when and more likely if you ever move out you will understand how important it is to keep the books some way balanced.

oh and to the stupid reply s can you put a link to show how much and when fsg took the money out the club.

      • jm says:

LFC do not run at a loss !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After a load of idiotic hypothetical nonsense he goes on to say, and I quote

“we will genuinely be stronger without Suarez”
        Amongst other things

The comment proves that no sheep is a braindead moron …read it

          RETURN OF THE TROLL!

          Aka tommy the tit.

It says that there are better players out there for Liverpool then Suarez. Veg.
That piece was put into laymens terms but you still struggle. So how about you do a piece on why Suarez is so affective and we can’t live without him. Go on.

You are always on here having a go at the owners/management/players.
Is it cause you are a hard man trapped in a wimps body or cause you are small below. I would say it prob both.

          • Rob Lyons says:

To say we are better off without Suarez is moronic. Get a grip lad . 30 goals and considered one of top 5 players in the world by all the experts .

I think we all know Suarez is top class and irreplaceable , I think only a Looney who doesn’t understand football like you thinks otherwise

          • tommy says:

            Lol.

No sheep proves again what a total IDIOT he is

” there are better players out there for Liverpool”
            LOL LOL LOL

who is better ? Messi , Ronaldo , bale , maybe we should sign them ?

Class A ignorant troll what no sheep is , and we all know it

      • keith says:

am showing that they are prepared to pay seven players the same as gerrards wages and some get a hell of a lot more,,, maybe u didnt grasp that when you where going keyboard happy with youre over the top facts of bollo cks,,,we’re all here to talk about lfc not get a maths lesson from you,,,,

    • Ozred says:

The most foolish comment I’ve read to date excluding anything Dennis d say.

Way to compare an apple with a fruit that doesn’t exist

  • GEORGE OWOLABI says:

Moses will be great for us. Look @ sturridge price tag massively below his performance. YNWA!

  • speedster says:

    marquee signing lol
we will be lucky to make a bloody wendy house signing
it’s the yanks you see always creaming the profits off for their true love baseball
they are no better than parasites

    • Ozred says:

Surely the marque signing isn’t Moses on loan. Plenty of players out there that would fit in perfectly and not cost 50m. Time to make a move!

  • 1N2 says:

Case of once bitten twice shy. Spurs spent 60 mil(soldado, paulinho etc + 25 mil for lamela and soon to be 15 mil for erickson.Dalglish spent 100 mil on carrol(gone) downing(gone) hendo(still learning his trade) and Adam(gone) Rogers bought Allen, borini – neither can make the starting 11.numerous players shipped out or out on loan. No centre back cover. No winger and no central midfield to cover for lucas or compete with lucas. Villa and Notts were warnings , our squad is lacking quality and unless we bring in at least 2 quality players we going to struggle. The question is , do we have the money and the ambition to do so and do the owners trust Rogers to pay top dollar for Marquee signings – nt sure we have and nt sure they trust him nt to make the same mistakes as King Kenny

  • Simon says:

Victor not 4 me thank u

  • Erin says:

Lets hope is not a repeat of this time last year !

  • CHUKWUEMEKA says:

am not being sentimental here, atsu plays more like valencia, always direct with the ball, lacks that creativity nd never knows what to do except run when he is in the final third while moses is better, atsu is simply overhyped and many people want him because moses time has been limited at chelsea nd the fact that atsu plays for porto even when they havnt realy watched him.

  • cludge says:

I have a gut feeling and deja vue about the same repeat performance as last years transfer window, bugger all is going to happen again an we will be left with egg on our face and nobody arriving.

  • CHUKWUEMEKA says:
