Liverpool awardBRENDAN Rodgers and Daniel Sturridge have scooped a double award for the Reds as they were voted Barclays Manager of the month and Player of the month for August respectively.

Rodgers has steered the Reds to a maximum of 9 points in the Premier League from their opening three fixtures after masterminding 1-0 wins over Stoke City, Aston Villa and rivals Manchester United.

It is Liverpool’s best start to a league campaign since 1994/95. It is the first time that Rodgers has won this award since arriving at Anfield.

Sturridge has scored the winning goal in all three of Liverpool’s league matches. Despite not being able to complete a full pre-season and suffering an injury already this term, the former Chelsea man heads the goal scoring charts in the Premier League thanks to his three decisive strikes.

The forward has also scored twice in the League Cup, helping Liverpool to a 4-2 extra time victory over Notts County bringing his goal total to the season to 5 and his overall record at Liverpool now stands at 16 goals in just 20 appearances.

Rodgers will be hopeful of Sturridge being fit to face Swansea City on Monday night after he missed out on international duty due to injury.
