LFC victory Man UtdLIVERPOOL FC manager Brendan Rodgers has moved quickly to assure fans that his Liverpool side have their feet firmly planted on the ground according to BBC Sport.

After the Reds 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday helped Liverpool continue their flawless start to the 2013-2014 season, Reds boss Rodgers was quick to urge caution ahead of the upcoming international break.

Rodgers was quoted as saying:

“We won’t be getting carried away. We have got to continue to improve. Initially we want to try and get into the top four and be in that conversation as long as we can.”

It has been a very long time since Liverpool have won the first three games of the season, in fact you have to go back to the 1994-95 season when a young Robbie Fowler burst onto the scene and amongst the first three wins was Robbie’s hat trick against Arsenal at Anfield.

In a performance that was more steely than stylish, Rodgers admitted that the news that Wayne Rooney was missing from the United team was a boost to the Reds prior to kick off.

Rodgers said:

“Wayne Rooney is world class. He is quality and a top operator and when you hear he isn’t playing, of course it gives you a tonic.”

Only time will tell if this is another false dawn at Anfield or if this run can keep going.

Looking at the league fixtures right through Sept/Oct, every one is winnable, I cannot see us being beaten in any of those fixtures, alas it does not happen like that. But if you examine those games and feel we will be beaten, enlighten me as to who it is gonna be, I realise some draws will happen, but i’m being optimistically positive. Better to take these points ASAP instead of looking at our prospects with 8 games to go.

can’t we go for WAYNE ROONEY b’cos he is the type of player that we need in LIVERPOOL F.C

One game at a time dude. Swansea, Sunderland & Newcastle away could easily result in zero points if we get ahead of ourselves.

If we focus on Swansea, see it as a must win game while understanding the possibility of them upsetting us, I really think we can get 3 points. It is dangerous to look any further than that.

no we struggled with big games but beat so many small teams and drew some

    • Steve-o says:

      no,
I agree we did not do well enough against the big teams
but we did badly against small teams

lost to WBA (twice!), Villa, Stoke and Southampton and drew many others.

Top 4 can be obtained by performing consistently against the smaller teams.

  • steven c says:

Either small team or big team, let us treat every game like final. We shuld also pursue d title not top four alone we need to stay long on on top of d table

  • shyna says:

i agree wit u,if Lfc can try 2get there point 2ru all dis small team,it wil help us alot.

  • Ayodele obanla says:

D truth is we gonna focus on each game at a time, play as a team and be consistence

League or top 4 is not won by beating the top teams, rather by beating the lower teams (convincily). Doing a little maths here, you get roughly 60points if you can win the lower 10 teams. Thats a gud point to contest for top 4, not to talk of winning 13 lower teams…. YNWA

Achieving top four feat does not mean beating lower teams or top teams. It means winning more games and getting more points than at least 17 other teams at the end of the season. That means we should have winning mentally irrespectively of the teams involved. We must take every game very seriously as it comes. We should not allow the joy of winning previous matches to override us. Once we win a match, we should forget about it and face the next coming matches one after the other. By so doing, top four finish becomes a reality.

On Rooney absence, i say no. Let us not forget that our darling Suarez did not play the game. Guess what would have happened to united if he played that match. Don’t forget in a hurry how Suarez always tortures united defense. Rodgers should be thinking of what would have happened to united if Suarez was part of the game and not Rooney. So the game was no Rooney, no Suarez, 50/50. To me the equation was a balanced one, period.
