Liverpool FC Skipper Steven Gerrard notched up his 100th Premier League goal in Saturday’s 2-2 draw away at Newcastle United but the skipper admits he’d rather have came away with the three points instead, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Despite scoring his 100th league goal for his boyhood club, Reds talisman Steven Gerrard has admitted that leaving St James’ Park with only one point has left him disappointed.
Having scored from the spot from the incident that saw Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa see red, Gerrard was left frustrated with the Reds inability to turn the draw into a win.
“It’s a good milestone for myself and it was nice to tick that one off,” Gerrard said.
“But I went away from Newcastle slightly disappointed we didn’t get the three points. I’d swap the goal for two extra points because where we finish in the league is my priority.
“Newcastle started the game a lot better and brighter than us in the first 15 to 20 minutes and probably deserved to go in front.
“But after the sending off the game changed in our favour and we took control from there. With the chances we created I thought we were going to go on and win the game comfortably.
“We played some great stuff but unfortunately it wasn’t enough. In hindsight, it was a missed opportunity.”
