Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers has told his team that they need to focus on improving their defending from set pieces after the 2-2 draw at Newcastle United on Saturday, reports The Liverpool Echo.
Rodgers admitted after the game that the Reds inability to defend from set pieces is now becoming a cause for concern with four of the last six goals they have conceded having come from set pieces.
“It’s something that we need to address, for sure,” said Rodgers. “We have to be more aggressive and more switched on. It’s concentration.
“The goal at home to Crystal Palace was disappointing. That was a poor goal to give away, but thankfully it never cost us.
“Here, conceding from a set piece put us on the back foot. We were looking forward to the second half at 1-1, and suddenly we were behind.
“It’s something for us to work on, but in football there is always something to improve on. At this moment, that is an area for us to look at.”
It was an ultimately disappointing day for the Reds despite skipper Steven Gerrard notching up his 100th Premier League goal.
The Reds were left frustrated having been unable to break down the 10 men of Newcastle United and could only return to Anfield with one point rather then the three they would have wanted.

Its not the set pieces im woried abt wut happend to our energy level we seem to back of teams playy litle deeper and dnt close quick enough to win the ball back that was also the lfc way now we just allow teams to past tru our midfield wth ease luk at hw many shots newcastle took in the first half a top four team cant allow that at any level
instead of worrying about defending them so much… maybe we should worry about scoring from them.. like how many corners and free kicks can we get against a side and hardly get a shot on
I think we should focus on defendind properlly,we conced easy goal that a club wanting 2 challenge 4 tittle or top 4 club contenders must not concede,Liverpool 4 life.
Where is our defenders d likes of johnson,sketel,agger and errique. And our midfielders lucas,gerrald,coutino and strikers moses sturriage and suarez. Wit dis players we can even carry d league.

what do you expect when you play sakho and cissoko? over paid and over rated. bet they won’t be dropped. bet kelly and wisdom would have been dropped if they’d been caught ball watching like that. good luck to wisdom at derby. hope he does very well…….and if he does well, why come back to play second fiddle to whoever? if he makes a name for himself there another premier league club will want him that’s for sure

Wisdom is not an option for liverpool mate.if we stop conceding too many unnecessary set pieces then we wont have to be talking of this.when u concede 10set pieces which will be directly sent into your box in a match,at least one of them is gonna go into your net.it also has to do with how well coordinated ur defence is.what happened to the man to man marking br talked of and if nobody loses his man,we were not gonna concede from set pieces.it is a lingering problem that would take a lot of talking,work,coordination and otherwise to solve.meanwhile our cm is *.br has to work on that.either he is dropping mr versatile and buying a creative box to box midfielder or we cant make top 4 this season.its simple.i will keep my fingers crossed and see what he does when it becomes very obvious that hendersen is not helping our play.really so much to say…
